Leonardo da Vinci's theory about the heart was right

Ғылым және технология

Leonardo da Vinci predicted how our heart valves close with almost unbelievable powers of deduction and 500 years later, we know he was right.
Leonardo became obsessed with the heart in the latter period of his remarkable life. He made a prediction about the main blood vessel leaving the heart, the aorta. He had figured out how the flow of blood out of the heart actually closes the aortic valve.
Leonardo had no way of testing it and no way of seeing inside a working heart. For centuries no one else even speculated. But in the last 50 years technology has finally been invented to show that he was absolutely right.

    Leonardo was able to survive and prosper in the world because he produced military weapons for the rulers of the world. The real question you need to ask is how many Leonardos are currently punching a cash register or begging on the street or sitting in a refugee camp because they either refuse to give aid and comfort to the Archons, or are actively suppressed and derided because they think differently than everyone around them.

He adopted the "surname" himself, so I think it's okay to call him like that.

    Huh, you comparing blood pressure to water pressure depth made me question something. If you are at a proper depth and you cut yourself, what would happen? - Will blood still flow out - Will water flow in - Both - And would you lose blood faster or slower as if you were out of the water.

    I don't know the answer for sure, but here is a guess. The ambient pressure and the blood pressure are one system, it's not 3psi inside the body and 15psi outside, the blood in the body is actually under pressure. We know this from scuba divers getting "the bends"; caused by gasses dissolved in their blood at pressure expanding on resurfacing. Then, because blood is ~80% water, and very soluble, parts in contact with the water will just go into solution and mix. It's then just one liquid with a higher concentration of 'blood stuff' the closer you get to the wound. I would guess that you will bleed at about the same rate as usual, however clotting will be less likely since platelets and proteins which would usually cause clotting will get washed away by the water. You would probably bleed for longer and ultimately lose more blood as a result.

  • @Pyriphlegeton

    @Pyriphlegeton

    5 жыл бұрын

    Well, blood circulates through the body in a continuous system. So a cut is like opening a continuous tube (say, in ring form). Over the length of a blood vessel, there are multiple systems pushing blood in one direction. The heart pushes it out the one side and pulls it in again on the other through negative pressure of the opening hollow organ that it is. Also arteries push blood actively and veins possess one-way valves. So, if the ambient pressure of water is lower than the pressure the heart can create, I suppose it would rush in the one side, towards the heart. Assuming you'll live, the heart would pump blood out of the other side of the cut continuously. If the water pressure is higher than what the heart can create and the one-way valves in the veins can hold back, it would rush in both sides of the cut vessel and compress the blood within the circulatory system until pressure homeostasis is reached. That's my guess.

    Very interesting! I just looked back though my old university textbook and it says that the shape of the Sinus of Valsalva was there to cause vortices, but rather than to close the aortic valve the purpose was to stop the cusps of the aortic valve from obstructing the coronary arteries. And yet earlier in the book it says the atrioventricular valves are closed by similar vortices.

  • @musaran2

    @musaran2

    5 жыл бұрын

    It might have a common evolutionary origin. Cusps being in the way reduce flow, thus a bulge to hold them would be selected for. Cusps hitting the wall induce wear and trauma, thus a bulge shape causing a back vortex would be selected for. The vortex also helping them to close might just be a happy bonus.

    DaVinci was 500 years ahead of his time. His wisdom and genius was simply unthinkable and not fully understood. I did many of my projects in high school and in university on this mans genius . I got perfect marks on everything he theorized.from Submarines, helicopters, hearts to paintings that will never be fully understood. This man is one of my idols and mentors, posthumously . Thank you Leonardo. I am truly grateful. I have always felt that the two most intelligent men who ever lived were You and Nicola Tesla. RIP❤️🙏🏻 😇.

    Leonardo use theorizing and then did an experiment to test his theory. In other words: he used the scientific method before this method formally existed. It should therefore be no surprise that he was proven right. What is surprising is his consistent use of the scientific method in this and other cases.

    I was jealous of leo since childhood. I aspire to be as multifaceted. He truly was the embodiment of imagination and innovation. Its pretty inspiring actually. Edit: even though not all of his ideas worked, they were still very intelligent in design for the time period. They had a lot of thought put into them and I think if he had a better theory of aerodynamics in particular he might have invented a flying machine much earlier in history which is fascinating to think about.

    I am doctor and I didn't know this. I studied the backflow cause the closer and S2 sound . But that's a good point. That if this is the case then every backflow cause closure of semilunar valve after some regurgitation . And to be honest this has gone through mind. But I easily discard this fact and accepted what I studied .
