@Alexander Dempsey I find it very ironic that the current administration has publicly stated its mistrust of the FBI but has reopened ZERO cases related to ordinary people where it has been argued that the evidence used to convict was suspect at best.

@@brotherfugue the fact that even the most liberal POTUS in recent history, Barack Obama, didnt order his release should tell you something about his case. The truth is, despite the inconsistencies in the prosecution case against him, the rest of the evidence was strong enough to convict him at the time, no matter what you believe. You've been fed a lot of lies by him and his defense/supporters. And I recommend to everyone who believes in his innocence to read or watch videos on the 1975 torture/rape/murder of fellow AIM activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash.

@@brotherfugue I don't have to say anything. It is not my decision to make. Maybe a President Biden will release him. But the calls to release him will be countered by the FBI. Just like with former president Bill Clinton who was thinking of releasing him, then changed his mind after receiving a letter by his FBI chief Louis Freeh and seeing the protests of 500 FBI agents and their families in front of the White House. I think of releasing him on compassionate grounds due to his age and bad health, but the convictions should still stand.

Any government uses propaganda pursuing its own goals. Yet propaganda may differ: to speak and act on behalf of somebody unjustly convicted is one thing, and bombing peaceful towns and innocent people (like in Serbia and Montenegro, for example) and lying the citizens about what’s going on there is another. There can be no excuse, explanation or justification for such. Many people in the USSR supported Leonard Peltier not because they were told to do so, but out of sense of justice and compassion.

That prosecutor lynne crooks is aptly named, lmao! I sure hope he's moved on from his position. Better still he needs to retire. How can a person in his position be so desperate to get a conviction that he employs illegal techniques to procure a guilty conviction based on the withholding of crucial information that would have lead to a fair trial. Like statements concur that the FBI were abusing their position. Like bullies they were so confident that they could go onto the reservation on a whim to throw their weight around. I bet this wasn't the first time that they used pathetic excuses to go there. People react to bullies that are a threat by protecting themselves, family & home, if there is a reason. No one randomly carry guns around their homesteads unless there's a cause to protect themselves from abuse. A warrant for a minor incident does not warrant the death of any two persons. Police or not. This is the end result of people that are fed up with being constantly lied to over many many years. Not one person is debating the fact that someone has to take responsibility for the death of two people but when authorities once again abuse & manipulate their system to glean results in their favour, it no longer matters that they are federal agents. In fact their deaths become void to a majority because of the manipulation & fabrication that leads to the guilty conviction of an innocent man.The authorities still refuse to learn a most poignant lesson that continues to maintain animosity among the majority. Those who think they have the authority to govern over others are gravely mistaken if they have no integrity. If there is no trust, no honesty, no reciprocation, no compassion and many other fundamental qualities that enhance a positive relationship between two opposing sides, how can respect for rules, for laws, even for those in authority possibly exist? It can't. The past is a history book that we can all learn from, but some are just too thick to for fear that they will lose or have to give something up. In my country, when it comes to commemorating those that died in world wars, we always look to the past in the hopes that history does not repeat itself with the saying "Lest we not forget".

My experience with how deviant police can be when their bosses are putting pressure on them to get a conviction at any cost, they can become blinded by one train of thought. See how our comments can be misconstrued. Not knowing anything about this case, I commented based on what info I was reading and responded to 'the process that the police took. My comments had absolutely nothing to do with this persons case. I realise it's a huge case with many moving parts. I would like to think that there is still room left for most to still be able to express what they think without judgements. No offense meant, no offense taken.

Quincy Smith I don't know for fact if hes guilty or not,but do you know for fact hes innocent? from what I understand,he kept changing his story, plus why did he flee to Canada?that leads me to believe he had something to hide!

have you read his prison writings, and back than on the rez Bob Mowreader just hearing the stories of everyone on that day, I believe he is innocent, I believe he deserves a fair trial, have you watched the movie "incident at Oglala"

Quincy Smith anyone can write whatever they want in books or journals, doesnt make it the truth! plus I heard aim was pretty violent and often took what they wanted by violent means that weren't always legal! everyone says theyre innocent and didn't get a fair trial, those are often rehearsed words that people in prison repeat so often they actually believe them! but neither you nor I were there and know for fact what happened.and no,i haven't watched the movie and its not on my list of things to do! but anyone can make a truth distorting movie, just ask Michael moore or oliver stone how!

well hugh,a jury didn't buy his story, appelate courts don't buy his story, and even bill Clinton, who played santa claus with pardons, didn't buy his story! well I don't buy it either! ive read into this and im convinced hes guilty. he kept changing his story, plus he fled to Canada, plus the ballistic evidence matched him.hes in prison where he belongs, and I really hope Obama doesn't cave into Michael moore or ward Churchill!

Alleged theft of cowboy boots is an excuse to justify SWAT teams. Guilty people say things like "I categorically deny these charges!" Innocent people just say no.

ive restudied this case and im convinced hes guilty as hell and the jury made the right decision! had peltier just gotten his story straight to begin with and hadn't fled to Canada maybe I could believe him,but I think hes guilty as hell and I hope he rots in prison! even Clinton, who gave out pardons like they were candy canes at Christmas realized peltier was guilty as hell!

***** Well I don't buy for one minute that hes innocent! And the fact that Michael moore is one of the ones trying to get him out convinces me so much more of peltiers' guilt!

***** they were looking for jimmy eagle, who was wanted for questioning in the assult and robbery of 2 ranch hands.plus he didn't just harmlessly steal those boots from a store,he took them by force from a friend. and yes the federal bureau of investigation is a legitimate us agency! the pine ridge indian reservation is not private property,it is federal land controlled by the bia who did accompany those fbi agents and fully cooperated with them! plus ive done a lot of research on aim,and have reached the conclusion they were a very violent group!

***** I didn't insult your family, lets leave family out of this and keep this between you and me as far as insults are concerned! im convinced hes guilty and im not changing my mind! ive studied this case, the evidence is conclusive and points directly to him,he was convicted in 1977,since then 6 presidents,3 republican,3 democrat, have been petitioned to pardon him,the past 5 of those 6 were not convinced he was innocent and refused to grant him clemency, and I doubt our current president will pardon him! when even Clinton who gave out pardons like they were candy canes at Christmas time refused to grant clemency, doesnt that sort of tell you that maybe your buddy is guilty? I think hes guilty, you think hes innocent! I get the impression you seem to believe the cia, nra, shriners, freeasons, boy scouts of America, armed forces, and everyone else joined forces to frame him! you strike me as a conspiracy theorist.well if you want to insult me fine, but lets leave family out of this! fair enough?
