But they're hugely outnumbered by the thumbs uppers at about 30:1 so it's not so bad after all. It's hard to understand why anyone would dislike this. Probably Bieber fans. 😊

Actually, 42 as of right now. Thing is, there are other reasons for a thumbs down than disliking the song. 1) To say that it lacks energy is an understatement. 2) I don't like his guitar. 3) Lose the hat. 4) etc, etc. It is a great song, in every way, it's just not the greatest performance. Deserving of a Nobel? Sure, as good or better than anything of Dylan's. Point is, a thumb down doesn't have to mean the person disliked it. I particularly like his work from that time as he was one of the first to supply me with material for more serious guitar accompaniment. I quit pounding chords and started picking notes. Thank you Len.

A song Leonard wrote in Edmonton Alberta in 1966 at the Alberta Hotel. The two ladies still live in Edmonton and remain anonymous to this day.

Wont around my house and, I live on top of a small mountain, so all neighbours below shall never forget either. granny still rocking it. they must think some nut bag is at it, i go fromoldies, classical, new, Rap, especially my sons music, it rips through the gulley. I was once sent an anon letter saying whilst they love the music, could it stop before dawn, lol, 'Nah we had a full band up here, I write , mates make music, i cant sing but give me a drum set and a mic and i am going at it.
Although Leonard wasn't directly referring to the actual Sisters of Mercy, this song kinda describes them. They are good women committed to God they help the unfortunate ones orphans homeless etc.
I have the great chance to hear Léonoard Cohen at its beginnings in Montpelleir university ( France) in 1970) ans after I've always listen ti this marvellous songwriter an poet... and his death was a tragedy for me

If ur not feeling holy: u feeling u sinned… I believe means: we no sinners. But when we know better/we feel very deeply when we fall. We r all of God: the universe. It’s alright. It is still alright. Just try to improve ur knowing.and try to do better.
I first heard this 51 or 52 years ago when the late great John Peel introduced me to LC, still great after all these years

I was truly honoured I meet the Montreal Sisters of Mercy in Dublin for Remembrance of Leonard Cohen 85 Birthday 21:9:2019 The main Theatre in Dublin full to the brim & Leonard's& Close Friend & Manager was with us we went back partied with some of cast Sisters & Manager (Red Needles ) Leonard Invented we drank At The House Hotel Party went on till 4 am , no I was in bed before Midnight but this even will always Remind me of this song Thank you Montreal for all you Gave to Us Mr. Leonard Cohen .
🙃 Ironically Cohen’s 👍 music used to be what my late parents listened to, and NOW I do!
