Fantastic. Thanks for the upload. Bernstein, perhaps, the best at making music accessible that ever lived.
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing this. An excellent time capsule.
I started watching Young Peoples Concerts shortly after this broadcast. This was one i always wanted to see. thank you for putting it on You Tube
Maestro Bernstein's coverage of Milhaud's "La Creation du Monde" begins at the 13:13 munute mark of this video.
The "Good Evening Friends " phrase is also heard in Rhapsody in Blue~
I can listen to the Maestro all day long.
Starting at the 30:42 minute mark, there is an excellent solo by the Philharmonic's principal clarinetist, Robert McGinnis (1910-1976).

So great! Do you happen to know who the saxophonist was?
Love the Lincoln ads.
Look at all of those legends sitting in that orchestra!
Thanks for the upload! This is precious
I hear Bradley Cooper is playing Leonard Bernstein in an upcoming movie!
Gus Lessons July 30th “The key to the mystery of a great artist is that for reasons unknown, he will give away his energies and his life just to make sure that one note follows another…and leaves us with the feeling that something is right in the world.” -” ― Leonard Bernstein
Anyone else wish he’d had played the entirety of The Maple Leaf Rag??

Lincoln/Ford presents Leonard Bernstein and the NY Philharmonic. This channel has "Rhythm" as well. I don't have any more. Look under "The Creative Performer" as well.
Was that Cessna 310 by that continental?
Thanks, though the title is silly. Jazz can be and is as serious as any classical masterpiece. It’s the listener who chooses whether or not to take music seriously.

Right. I hate the phrase. I wonder if Lenny really came up with that title.

He’s speaking to an audience predisposed to reject these new influences in music. In a stilted language that he calculated they would understand. To try to crack their resistance. He chose not to say “like it or suck, fools!!” We can discuss whether his approach was the best way to serve this excellent music or not.
wow,,a blessing to see this with robert mginnis on clarinet...i loved his playing and was angry he had to retire way to early and then that nanny goat ham took over,,yuck
At 0:16, Bernstein said "[...] welcome you again to our series". What series did he mean? It's certainly not his YPC or Omnibus.
