I've loved Leon Redbone since the 70's. His style has been aptly described as a category unto itself. His Christmas album is without a doubt the best ever.

I have liked Leon Redbone since I was in High school, and it was unpopular to like such artists. I didn't give a Damn what people thought then, and I don't care 40 years later.

Mr. Redbone announced on youtube 8 - 9 months ago, due to increasing problems with long term health problems, he was no longer performing. Sad news. We are lucky to live in his lifetime, as are all the people of multiple generations to which he introduced this great music, and his perfect style and talent. We are lucky to always have his music.

ChaSquared Yeah, that's too bad. Truly one of a kind. When his first album came out, the local station played a couple of cuts. I was hooked. Went right out a bought it! I had a couple others, but I can't remember which. I love the genres he specializes in, I love his voice, I love his guitar, and his look. A perfect ensemble wrapped up in one man. Sad to know he won't be producing anymore music. I hope that his health improves whether he returns to stage & studio or not. I hope his health issues are not terminal. I will be very sad on the day he goes so I hope he doesn't.

Yup, saw Leon in New Hampshire just before those "long term health problems" overwhelmed him. Don't think he addressed the audience once that night. Completely Snookered. Smashed. Was my first/last LR concert, and I was giddy like a kid on Christmas Eve prior to the show. What a disappointment.

Leon Redbone was a true showman. Sad to hear of his health struggles and his retirement, but SO thankful for the technology that makes it possible to enjoy his music for many years to come. Thank you, sir, for the pleasure you have given to so many, and my best wishes for a long and pleasant retirement.

Became an instant fan of Leon Redbone after seeing him on Saturday Night Live. The highlight came for me when I saw him at The Ryman in 2009 when he opened for John Prine. He brought recollections of a better time. He will always live on in his songs.

That was indeed the great Johnny Carson. All the late night guys are simply pale imitations of Carson. And you don't see talented people like Leon Redbone very often either. Not to mention Cindy Cashdollar backing him on the Dobro. Lots of talent on that stage!

I have never liked old-time jazz, but Leon's voice, style, and ability to make me tap my foot and hummm along is more than worthwhile. I'd say he's more of a blues-jazz-ragtime singer/songwriter.

He would never have done it, but it’s a shame he never released a collection of Blind Blake covers. He recorded “Champagne Charlie” and “Diddie Wa Diddie,” but listen to the quick intro to “Mr. Jelly Roll” - it jumps like Blake on a sunny day. No on else I’ve heard could pull it off. There are lots of people who play this music, it often sounds campy. Not him - he was a great artist. RIP.
