I combined a few pumpkins once. The landlord had carved some pumpkins and threw the insides in the manure spreader. Next year they were growing in my soybean field. This was before Roundup Ready and they survived. I saw pumpkins coming in the header and for a second wondered if maybe I needed a little more sleep.

I'd spend $2 an acre over $60 any day. That's like us we double crop soybeans after wheat in late June to mid July . The double crop beans only yield 15 to 35 bushels an acre compared to 40 to 90 bushels they could do an acre if we plant them in April or May. but every bushel over 8 is profit . Great work !

Hey Mike The cutter bar won’t flex “UP” where you’re worried about clipping the fingers off your reel. Unlike hydro flex, the cutter bar on a HD50F will only DROOP it will not flex upwards, the header flexes upwards with the wings and allows the cutter bar to droop down to maintain ground contact. This will prevent any conflict between cutter bar and reel fingers. It also maintains the relationship between cutter bar and reel

He is also seeing his skid shoe marks so easily because he has the header pitched back too far. It needs to be tilted forward more, even though he is concerned with rocks. That's why the center is flagging because its not tipped far enough forward.

Agreed. In crappy lentils need max tilt On the header. Not flat but tilted way forward. The sickle guards become the crop lifters. But who knows with that header if that’s possible. Seems like the float is set far too heavy for lentils

Mike if you go to your header auto setting there should be an option that let's you put your auto fore-aft tilt off, sp if that's off then you can loft you'd header up with the dial and not have your combine tilt forward it definitely saves your skid plates I did that this harvest with my combine seemed to work better if you manually ran the fore-aft rather that let the combine adjust it and pick rocks in flex mode.

I understand what you have to do , and I've been down that road before. My heart goes out to you.

Buyers keep texting looking for small greens at .42, told them call when they are at .63, which is what they were last yr. I want the same price… fert is the same so why should we get .25 lb less?? These crooks should be locked up. I get your point of getting something back, but would be a hard pill to swallow for me to be out there. The auto latching door made the list for automation, but shifting gears requires you to get off your broken seat, out onto the messed-up ladder into a plastic compartment, and move a handle to change settings. The generic list of crop types is funny, but also kind of sad JD does not customize the list based on the equipment, even with equipment settings being set by the crop type.

do you ever do anything to inprove soil helth to get better yields like growing cover crops and removing compaction

Compaction isn’t an issue and cover crops rarely make it through the winter.

@@clearskiesranch1362 why isnt compaction an issue, its an isue on all soil types evan from walking ofer an area you cause a bit of compaction and with them big tractors and tires you will cause alot of compaction that will prevent the roots from getting in to the moisture lower in the soil and cause water to run off a field in to the low spots rather than soke in to it

  • @clearskiesranch1362

@@joseph-ur2ks Because the soil is too dry and as hard as concrete by this time of year for any compaction to form. It can be an issue in the spring when the soil has more tilth and moisture but not usually. Even if compaction layers were formed the -40C winters would eliminate them with no trouble.

An efficient farmer can make it if every 3rd or 4th year is a bumper crop. Most of them understand the money side very well. The rest are former farmers!

Really it's about natural selection for drought resistant, non cracking lentils as those are the ones that will germinate and grow next season. You are slowly adapting to natural conditions. That's a bonus, or curse, few think of
