Lenovo Yoga C930 Review

Ғылым және технология

Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo Yoga C930, a premium 13.9” Windows 10 convertible Ultrabook with a 360 degree hinge that houses a soundbar for better audio. This is the next generation design after the Yoga 920, and it’s available with full HD and 4K displays, both supporting touch and the included Wacom AES pen that lives in a silo inside the laptop (so you won’t lose it!). The Yoga C930 is available with Intel 8th gen quad core i5 and i7 processors with up to 16GB DDR4 RAM and a fast NVMe M.2 SSD. It competes with the HP Spectre x360 13”, the MS Surface Pro 6 and Dell 2-in-1 notebook PCs like the Latitude 7390.

So.... how is it for you? I am particularly interested in the screen brightness. Is it oke for you, since you are used to the Apple screens?

  • @SethParr

    @SethParr

    5 жыл бұрын

@@Lidewey165 Compared to the Apple, it was 2 - 3 presses of the screen brightness less than what I would prefer. It was fine for controlled light but sitting adjacent to a window during a midday sun was difficult without having to make position adjustments and this screen is GLOSSY, at least my 4K version was. I ended up taking it back and picked up a Razor Blade Advanced 15". The C930 was a nice machine but it definitely hit its limitations when I used it as a Power User. I also found myself not using it in tablet, tent, etc. modes as much as I thought I would. I didn't consider the battery usage either for a 4K device that was also a 2-1. The battery isn't too much better on the Blade but plugged in it's a beast; It reminds me of my 17" MBP when I bought it new. The version I have has a matte screen, 144Hz screen refresh rate which I find much easier on the eyes when I'm working on it 8+ hours, stronger brightness, and upgradeable memory. If you're not going to be doing a lot of multi-tasking with larger applications, can put up with a very glossy screen, would like a 2-1 ultraportable, and you're good with a fixed 16GB of non upgradable memory than it's a wonderful machine as an UltraPortable with some of the best speakers I've ever heard on a Laptop and the weight was a pleasure to tote around. My apologies if I threw a wrench into your decision making.

I'm definitely enjoying this laptop so far. At first I got the hp spectre x360 but after a week I decided to return it due to it overheating. Hp's fans were so annoying as well and to the touch it was really hot. If it wasn't for that I would of kept it loved the style and design but apparently the overheating issue was common. I got the best buy config and yes everything about it is accurate. I love how within 5 seconds I'm in the os ready to go.

So, how do you compare this with the X1 and X380 Yoga? They are all convertible with pen docking in. C930 has slightly bigger battery and fewer ports, as well as better audio performance. Thinkpad may have better internal structure, but they have only 1 fan inside? You may say they have different price point, but during holiday season, their prices could come pretty close to each other.

This is a damn nice laptop! That sound bar gimmick is pretty cool. I just got an XPS 15 which is also a really great machine. My old XPS 13 screen was too small so I went 15 this time but now I think maybe 13.9 might be a good compromise because the XPS 15 is going to get heavy in a backpack if you're out all day. I'm really tempted to grab this and compare the two before settling on one. edit: the XPS 15 has H & G processors, much more powerful than the U processors. So I'm keeping the XPS. I just wish they'd do a 14 inch XPS.

So, if I got it right your review model was the 1080p panel, right? Do you have any tests on the 4k display? I have been looking for a workstation laptop with good enough photo processing capabilities, maybe 2 in 1 with a pen and the most important spec for me is adobeRGB coverage. I would believe that the 4k display would hit higher in that aspect, specially if dolby says it supports dolby vision. The problem is that I am having problems finding that spec online. x1 yoga and x1 carbon seem quite enticing for me, but they are definitely "overpriced". I mean, with the yoga, in terms of internals (not counting with monitor) you can get more for less: same configuration for the x1 carbon(2k display 500nit) and yoga (4k display), with faster DDR4 RAM on the yoga, you pay 200€ less (prices in Germany). Sound should be better on yoga and battery life similar as the yoga's battery is slightly bigger, but lower screen brightness (if at max brightness). Now the question is how does the 4k panel hold in terms of gamut coverage in comparison to the 2k of the carbon. Is it really worth the money, as with paying slightly less than the base configuration for the carbon but with the 500nit 2k display (1903€ base price), you get 16GB (which are very, very welcome when doing photo processing) DDR4 and the i7-8550U (also more CPU cache, again great for photo editing) for 1871€. Plus it comes with a pen. Comparing to the x1 yoga is a bit too much as the price for base specs+2k 500nit display is 2171€....exactly 300€ more than the c930 and almost that more than the carbon. If I knew that the 4k panel could do 90+ % of adobeRGB, I would have no doubts which laptop to choose. The only place I found some specs from the 4k panel is in ultrabookreview, where they measured 78% coverage (which is not that bad, considering that many high-end laptops around only get up to high 60s) of adobe RGB. But unfortunately I would like to cross-check that with other reviews.

But how does it cool down? I don't get it. No air fan that is visible. That is strange. Where does the air come in and where does it go out?

She mentioned HP here several times. I have owned both HP and Lenovo and Sony and Dell, etc. I wouldn't take an HP computer if you gave it to me and I knew that I couldn't get another replacement computer within 3 years. I bought an HP Envy W8. The ads said it would accept future windows iterations without problem. A year later W10 came out and the HP would not accept the W10 configuration. After two years they stopped providing system updates and it was even difficult to get existing system information from their website. After W10 they seemed reluctant to do anything with the product. This was my wife's computer and somehow the hinges broke. It sat right on her desktop and was seldom moved. Both my Lenovo and my wife's Dell computer run flawlessly. They are exceedingly well supported by Lenovo and Dell and are continuously updated via online connections. Both systems have 4 year onsite repair with work done by competent personnel. You can call or chat with either one and get an appropriate solution. They stand solidly behind their products. The HP computer joins the family of other HP products including their worthless printers with over priced ink. Those are the same printers whose firmware was changed after purchase to manage the exclusive use of HP ink. Don't waste your money.

Same here. I have a pavilion (one of the more expensive ones) and it worked flawlessly for the first one and a half years, but then problems started popping up.

It's well known that HP consumer products are garbage while their business products are near tops. Dell has always been the gold standard but to me, it seems they've gotten cheaper with more plastic. I bought an Alienware/Dell in 2011 that fell apart and then an XPS 15 that also just fell apart. I've also got a Lenovo for work that is older than the XPS that I travel with, drop, etc. and is still in one piece which has impressed me. A few days ago I was going to order an XPS 13 2-1 and read the performance reviews which were mixed (I do some light strategy gaming and I want to use this from my couch wirelessly (cloud gaming) going forward). I played with a Yoga over at your blue and yellow electronics store and it really stood out....I did notice the lack of screen brightness right away but otherwise this laptop is nice. Really nice.

I received the new Spectre x360 15" (gem cut) 2 days ago. I already returned it because the fans are literally like an airplane turbine and the track pad is a disgrace (No Windows precision drivers). I was very disappointed because it is such a beautiful design.

You didn't mention how good or bad the sound is - I'm curious if having the sound bar in the hinge works well in the different modes as well - it's an interesting idea - thanks for the review

I'm waiting the yogabook c930, I'm in love for it even it it doesn't worth its price compared to the old hw on it. This Yoga c930 it's really interesting, a pity it's not fanless or I would choose it for sureover the Surface Pro6

Ended up going with this. A new Spectre is around the corner, but doesn't look like they're going to be using precision drivers. If the Specters deal with the coil whine, heat, and touchpad, they'd probably be the best 2-in-1 devices, but with the Yogas I've never had any of those issues---it's the small things that set it apart for me.

  • @KungFuIsland

@@TheKiersdoface So far, so good. Great battery life and very responsive. Fan doesn't have the high pitched whine that I was hearing from other ultrabooks and older Lenovos. Screen wobble is better than average for a 2-in-1 (at least it feels better than the Yoga 730 which I returned because of the screen flickering and a trackpad issue), but I don't notice it when typing. Keyboard doesn't feel mushy like Yoga 730. haven't run into any bugs yet except with Dolby Atmos and audio playback in KZread which seemed to be a software issue and hasn't recurred since rebooting. I'm using the Best Buy config: i7, 1080p, 12 GB of Ram--seems to be the best bang for your buck right now until Lenovo has an online sale.
