    one year owning the legion 7i with the best specs, i totally agree with you that this is just not a good laptop and is not worth its price. Yea it looks good on paper but the laptop overheats just by browsing the web, or actually by just being open. Absolute nightmare what they have done. Sorry Lenovo but creating powerrful slim computers is not your thing, and if you need something that works better pay a bit more and go with a macbook pro.

    Hey man since the Slim is your daily driver, have you had any active concerns/measures around burn in prevention only 2 months in? (auto hiding taskbar, icons, etc) And was wondering what your opinion is on playing games like WoW extensively, which I've seen a lot of people caution for OLED screens in particular?

  • @Payne.

    @Payne.

    3 ай бұрын

    I haven't really thought about it. It's my first OLED device and I've never experienced burn in. I play a lot of games with static HUDs and taskbars and I do turn on the option to dim the taskbar and background in Vantage while on the desktop. If anything changes I'll let you know.

    Thanks for the update. I've got a few questions: For gaming would you recommend 32 gb of ram or are 16 gb of ram perfectly fine? And how much is the igpu only mode helping for battery life? I'll need it for long days in university and 5 hours are probably not enough...

  • @Payne.

    @Payne.

    2 ай бұрын

    If you're going for the 14" absolutely get 32gb of RAM. It's hard to compare 16 vs 32 because my 7i had so many problems and it's hard to pinpoint exactly where it was struggling with games that the Legion 5 didn't. On the 14" Legion 5 the RAM is soldered and your only option is to get it on purchase or not at all. You'll get 5-7 hours depending on the brightness of the screen. Remember that it also charges via USB-C with the right adapter so you don't need to carry the heavier proprietary charger around.

    Ok, thanks for your quick reply. I just found your channel yesterday and I have nothing but positive things to say. Your review of the Legion Slim 5 14 was really the best as it showed off the gameplay on this laptop in detail which was very helpful. In Hybrid mode with the brightness turned down I get about 5-6 hours on battery. I used a bunch of web apps and did some copywriting during that time. As soon as Davinci, Premiere or a game runs then the battery will take a dive. I use it almost exclusively on either the 170w charger or the Lenovo 65w USB charger. I'm not sure what software you're running, all I can say is it lasts longer than the Intel 7i.

    Great question. I'm doing both. What I would suggest is that you just use your laptop as normal until something like this happens to you. I can't find anyone else who has mentioned it before and I haven't heard anything back from Lenovo about it. If it does happen to you I'd love to know because I'm only speculating that it's always on USB causing it. A few days ago there was a BIOS update as well, the change logs didn't mention anything about it.

    Lenovo laptops, especially the Thinkpad & Legion line are tops for me. I have a Gen5? Legion 7 (10750H/2070Super) and a Gen8 Legion 7 SLIM AMD (7840HS/4060) Different animals for sure. The Gen 5 will boost it's ass off (hard to keep cool thanks to the 10th gen Intel) The Gen8 is cool, calm and collected. It will run anything I've thrown at it even on silent mode it gets it done. Unplug it, and run it saver mode, it will get around 8hrs of YT. Both were about 1200 at the time of purchase. My next will be another Legion.

    I had the same problem with 2023 Asus Zephyrus G14 and M16. I had to cut down GPU wattage for the CPU to run at a constant frequency. GPU was getting hot and it was throttling the CPU. The best laptop right now has a rtx 4080. You want to know why? 1. 12gb vram is needed at 1440p - 2000p at least. 2. The rtx 4080 laptop gpu runs at 60w, up to 175w, enough performance for any game. 3. The rtx 4080 laptop at 60w is so fast as the rtx 4060 at 100w, results in lower temps or noise if same performance is needed. Problem, the manufacturer doesnt put a rtx 4080 into the 14inch and also the thin aluminium 16 inch only has 4060 and 4070, 4080 would suit perfect to it. Only hope is the coming Lenovo Legion 7 Pro 16 inch (AMD) with a rtx 5080/5090 in a 100% aluminium chassis.
