Among my requests was a Santana song and, after mentioning as an aside that Carlos Santana’s wife is a renowned drummer who joins Yoyoka in being one of the 17 ladies among Drummerworld’s Top 500 Drummers, I thought I’d add this Lenny Kravitz song (Cindy Blackman Santana is the drummer in the official music video) as an easy but fun choice. It clearly seems to have been both. Yep, very happy to have gone your way!

What??! I never knew this?! I just knew that there was a cool looking female drummer with a fro in the video and that Lenny himself played the drums (bass too right?) and guitar on this track. Must be somewhat of an age different (Carlos and his wife that is) between them right? I sort Santana as a 60-70’s artist, but maybe I’m wrong.

Yoyoka plays jazz, funk, swing, her styles are endless and perfect, but I feel she really comes alive when she’s playing rock. Just awesome. 🐰🥁🐰🥁🐰

14 years is a LONG time on drums when you start at 2 and do 1st concert at 4. Just check her doing Good Times Bad Times at age 8, blowing Plant's mind, or look at Ian Paice's face when she does Burn. 👀

Those Ludwig drums sound so solid, rich and full and fit this song more than well. Yoyoka didn't exaggerate and the rhythm was once again steady as a rock. A few who have no sense of rhythm whined that it was too technical, but it was as it should be for this song.💎

This is my favourite Lenny Kravitz song, Yoyoka's smile and energetic playing always make me happy. I tried to learn the ways of the drum kit when I was younger, but I very quickly discovered I had zero coordination 😄

A good ole rock and roll banger executed with energy and humor. We got that wave hello and goodbye that I've missed since last cover. This young woman has been very busy with recording her own album, recording and performing with the Ken Okada group featuring Yoyoka (jazz) and supporting Cali3 (hip hop? rap??). As a Patreon member I've watched her May performance at the Baked Potato jazz club 10 times! For a pittance! She has the unique ability to produce the sound from the drums just right for rock. Her way of hitting the drums to produce the right sound is making her immediately stand out from other drummers - then you hear her absolute timing and groove. After a while you realize she has a senso-motorical memory for musical details and structure that is out of the world. She never struggles after she has memorized a song. At least it doesn't show.
