Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

There are a few Porsche 935 replicas out there, but this is probably the only one that started life as a Geo Metro. In this installment of crazy engine-swapped Lemons Metros, we recount the story of the famous MetSHO.

    Turbos from a genuine LeMans car - I wonder if this is the first or only time any component has ever raced both LeMans and Lemons? I could see that becoming like a badge of honor, for teams to find some component from a LeMans car to put on their Lemons car, even if it's just some plain old piece of hardware, and even if it doesn't serve any real purpose in their build.

    Not covered: The sheet metal is from a junkyard for signs. Square tubing from a cut-up basketball hoop support is used...somewhere in there. The Toro Lawnmower parts are mostly used mower blades. And the total budget (not including the turbos) was something like $363.71. They also plumbed something wrong in the water-cooled turbo setup so that the turbos were filling with water. Ope. One of the greatest Lemons cars ever built.

    I have always loved these guys. I auto-crossed with them at a Porsche event just before converting my old RX-7 into a Lemons car. Watching that Metro dominate $50k German sports cars was the greatest. Their creativity is amazing.

    The top of the engine cover was made from a sign for a defunked suburban expansion with a dude who looked a lot like Paul Newman, and then we put a fake Paul Newman signature on it too to cap it off. The fender flares are made from an industrial refrigerator pulled out of the junk, and the lip on them are from a cut-up 50-gal drummer schaffers oil.

    The spreadsheet call "what's it made of" is a must for sending parts runners to the parts store but even that failed us (we run 1947 Plymouth frankensteined together fom about 30 cars) when the engine is from a 1997 Pontiac GTP...but the plug wires are from a 1996 Camero V6. Sometimes you just learn the had way. This is still probably my favorite ca to watch on tack in the Midwest. We it runs well it is blazingly fast and well driven. When it runs poorly, it is politely driven and passed by our minivan.

    someone should do a geo factory racing team theme. The joke being that of course no two geo models are actually made by the same manufacturer. You could have a geo tracker rear axle in a geo metro to make it rwd, and use a 4age from a geo prism gsi to make a Geo AE86. Of course draw inspiration from like super gt ae86s

    I'm struggling to understand how a 2400lb car with 340lb/ft going to the tarmac broke so many wheel studs! The ARP ones are surely good for much, much more than that? What were they doing?

  • @CrabSpirits

    @CrabSpirits

    4 жыл бұрын

    They were made for a plebian Taurus. The answer to your question is...racing. The ARP ones never break. The car also goes through a startling amount of wheel bearings. Like at least one per race. Each one has to be modded for racing duty and said ARP studs.

  • @CrabSpirits

    Yugos not made from compressed rust are actually worth money, so that presents a problem. Also, I bet all the parts you cast off the chassis are worthless, so you won't be able to recoup the budget. Someone should still do it though because I doubt they would care.

    Total n00bie question...why is suspension not considered a safety item exempt from the 500 limit? If the suspension is stiffened to reduce body roll, then wouldn't the car be less likely to roll over, thereby making it safer?

  • @ericrood510

    @ericrood510

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's a good theoretical question and would probably be applicable if a whole bunch of stock-suspension 1990s SUVs ran in Lemons. As it is, passenger cars have "stiff enough" suspension and low-enough centers of gravity that a "compliant" suspension really hasn't been a major safety concern. Considering it's also the easiest way to spend lots of money to make a car faster, it's easier to make it part of the budget to keep people from showing up with $12,000 of adjustable suspension. That said, you won't get sweated at a Lemons race for replacing things like tie rods, wheel bearings, and ball joints since they are actually safety items. Other stuff that isn't directly related to handling performance is a gray area. And if you show up with Dumpster Stance, you'll get a lot of leeway.

  • @EmyrDerfel

    Because stock suspension work just fine unless you drive it like you stole it.
