I don’t mean this aggressively but when I hear comments like that I wonder how old you are and if you ever saw Leigh Matthews play. Yeah Leigh was a thug, and if that’s what you meant then fair enough, but if you say that on footballing ability only then I can only assume you’re too young to remember Leigh Matthews, He was an absolute superstar.

It's not the 70s anymore, leigh wouldn't survive in this game with the reporting rules and the speed and skill of the game. @@benwilliams7754 honestly, watching all of his games, he's a great off the ball player, he positions his opponents where they don't want to be, opening up space for other players on the team to make scoring opportunities. He does alot in the regular season, probably why he has a brownlow under his belt. I think that he's just that good in finals, that his regular season greatness goes overlooked.

Yes but Leigh was a thug. Umpire’s not very fond of him. But he won 7 or 8 B&F’s (not too shabby) Consider this stat. Most VFL/AFL games with 25+ disposals and 3 or more goals: 72 Leigh Matthews 38 Kevin Bartlett 38. Garry Wilson 32 John Murphy 27 Gary Ablett Jnr 23 Brent Harvey Interesting stat because 1 and 2 are Matthews and Bartlett. Both were rovers/resting/small forwards in successful multiple premiership sides and played well over 300 games of football. Its not really a fair comparison for more modern players because the modern mid typically has a spell on the bench instead of in the forward pocket but I think the Matthews/Bartlett comparison is very interesting.

You can’t compare individual teams against one another from 20 years apart. You can compare who was bettter at their time. In which case the early 2000 lions were the greatest team of all time head and shoulders above the rest.
