Leif was my very first concert experience in 1977. I had it so bad for him for a good 5 years of my childhood 😂😂❤❤❤

WoooooW! I'd LOVE to hear his REAL voice! There's out an another record, when his voice can be cathched as far background vocal, just needed to keep watching his mouth and neck to determine, what he actually does on the stage. Now is perfectly consistent with that experience. In the studio recording, whis was widely known, there are many filters and effects in the final song. And not mentioned the "background" vocalists, whom obviusly singing in "front" of the song. But, with that record, I'll now experiencing his true habit, his true person. Thanks!

He did not sing on his records entirely!! read his autobiography this is his real voice. someone else sang in the studio he could not sing at all. the producer even knew it! he sang the vocal track and they used a back up singer named Jim haus who sang the songs and his was the final vocal they had him Leif, sing parts to make it look like it matched a younger singer. His first album was his real voice or close to it. if you hear surfin usa or put your head on my shoulder that was him or close to it!! it always baffled me in some parts of the songs the singer sounded older and in say the bridge the singer sounded like a kid!!!! later if you hear '' you had to go and change on me''' that is his real voice as by then they did not care as his days were numbered as his career was over. it is a sad story of how adults deceived not only him but how they deceived the record buying public. he looked good that's all they cared about they knew that would be all teenage girls would need. It was the milli vanilli Idea! it is a sad story they really took him and on top of that turned him to the world of drugs and alcohol, that lead to him causing an accident that crippled a man for life. The scotti Bros were garbage! they left him with no money and not career and they made millions off of him. a young kid used and abused

Thank you for your input. It's sad he was taken advantage of like that. I think Leif really wanted to train, to become a good singer. His handlers wanted no part of that.

@@Rockshredder The good side, is Garrett says he's clean. His autobiography (Idol Truth) sold well. I saw a good interview with him, from Aussie tv. He looked mentally & physically better. Personally, if he was wise, he'd skip showbiz & head straight for real estate sales. (The name recognition would not hurt him). A realtor can make a great living. Former teen idols Tony DeFranco and Rex Smith, are both realtors in California. We can only wish him well, right?

To be honest, watch it again, carefully. You had a knowledge about mixing? I had. The sound engineer whom made "mistake" with the setup, the "leader" voice (here: Leif Garrett) is the loudest, even the music, and all of the instruments are just a humble noise. But, when you could use your imagination (or put on a digital mixing pad, and activate some filters to "lift up" all the background track, you found yourself in the radio version. Because is already there, but is just too silent. Actually I found out, the middle guy in the background vocal group is THE identical voice, which are made the radio song experience. Yep. We all seen such bands. Think about the BoneyM. The so recognizable, deep voice is far, far away from the black guy's voice- who can just fit in the Jackson's five easily. Where you found it? Yep, only one song, only one recording through the web- Going Back West. It's the same stuff, I 100% sure about. The sound engineer does this kind of setup, and to be honest, I'll glad to hear that, because I hear that voice already in another record, but such "background" vocal experience. Weird setup, when the leader's channel is the most lower at the whole setup, then the background vocalist leading the show. Now I'll now, why...

It's strange how the Scotti Brothers were able to get away with the deception.

音痴では無いですね。 他の動画見れば普通に歌ってます。日本のアイドルと違って海外のタレントはやっぱり生半可じゃ売れませんから。 この時代はまだアーティストに対するケアが重要視されていませんでした。アイドルは消費され質よりも出演回数をこなす事の方が重要視されていました。最悪口パクなんてのもあった位です。喉の調子も無視されステージに上がる事だけを要求されていただろう事は安易に想像できますね。

As someone with an audio degree, what I think they did in the recordings was layer his own voice, so it was several parts, a little staggered, put echo on it, and make a lot of adjustments at the soundboard and outboard gear. Plus, he probably had a vocal coach work with him close to and during recording time, judging by his technique you can see, in some videos. Plus, he wasn't dancing stuff, during recording and sometimes calming lighting and things like that are used, during recording. So, it's his own voice, affected, for the lead singing. It's similar to what was done with Shelley Fabares' voice for Johnny Angel, except with more layering. He actually sounded great, when I saw him live, at a sports bar, in 2000 with no effects on his voice. He worked on his voice a lot, as an adult.

Leif Garrett recently revealed back when this song was originally recorded in the studio the record label (Scotti Brothers) brought in another studio vocalist named Jim Hass to be the dominant voice you hear and Leif's vocals were way down in the final mix. On most TV show appearances he did back then he was lip syncing to the original studio recording. Except for this performance...

I can tell he's really singing here. In his book he says he was not really lip syncing. In concerts they would turn his mic down real low so he could barely be heard. In between songs they would turn it up so he could talk to the audience.

影武者が歌っていたのでしょうか？ 音源も調整なんでしょうね。 当時の雑誌に自分よりもトシちゃんの人気が高くて凄く悔しい思いをしたという本人談が載ってました。
