Terrible refereeing. The fact that Ashton was given a red when it clearly wasn't intentional and Smith was low is already ridiculous. That was a yellow card offense. But what makes the decision absolutely mind boggling is the fact that the challenge on Mike Brown was given neither a red nor even a yellow card. I'm a Harlequins fan, but I absolutely understand why there are boos after the game. Refs should be held accountable for terrible decisions like that.

Must admit whilst 23 didn't get up, he WAS in a perfect position to take the ball and had eyes up throughout, so the TMO is wrong, but no one would have complained at a Yellow for contact in the air. Ashton yellow also as pointed out, several mitigating factors.

Having said that, when England were struggling for wings, Nowell injured, and May way off form, he and Ollie Hasell Collins - the two in form Premiership wings in 2021/2, were simply ignored by Eddie Jones and instead he chose to play people out of position, the Eddie way. Hopefully this hasn’t dampened his desire to play for England as I think Lynagh, alongside OHK and Steward, (with Radwan/Arundell on the bench for when play opens up in the last 20), could be a very potent attacking back three.

What on earth is Tempest doing refereeing this game: he has been consistently hopeless for many years now, at all levels, so why are the RFU still using him? I had the pleasure (!) of assessing Tempest many years ago when he refereed at Pirates, and even way back then the signs were ominous: he was poor, at best, in that game, and seems to have gone backwards ever since. We all know that the RFU is extremely short of decent referees, but there are a few around at slightly lower levels - 5, 6, and even 7 - so why not give these guys a chance?. At the same time, get rid of whosoever is coaching Premiership referees - whatever they are doing is just not working.

Missed lots of offsides and in at the side and crossing in line outs. Plus Some of smith, care, and marler syndicalism (unsporting play). Even relied on the crowd for one offside decision. They need to bring in the Yellow that can be upgraded to a Red option. Automatic reds on such marginal calls are killing the game. This had no real outcome on the Prem season, but other calls have already decided big international games (look at The Roses is last year’s WRWC final or Steward in Irl v Eng in this year’s 6N) and will continue to do so. Also, if head/arm/shoulder to head contact warrants a red for its high level of danger etc, why isn’t the tackled player immediately shipped off for a HIA? If he/she isn’t, then it’s not dangerous, surely? You can’t have one without the other in my opinion. So why not bring in a rule that if a high tackle deserves a yellow, the tackled player must also be HIA’d immediately, and if he/she fails the HIA, then the tackler gets an automatic red. If he/she passes, then they’re back on the pitch and the penalised player gets to return as it’s deemed foul play, rather than dangerous play. And if a tackling player gets a certain number of yellow cards for this offence (three?) in a given season, which would show habitually bad play/technique, then he/she can be banned for the same duration as any given red card for the offence. So maybe three matches plus retraining in tackling. In this case, teams don’t lose out to ambiguous calls, players’ welfare is better managed, ambiguous decisions are avoided, consistent infringement is addressed and a game doesn’t risk be tilted in the favour of one team or another for what is often an accident (Steward in the 6Ns) rather than actual dangerous play.

What is with the refs nowadays?! They seem intent on ruining the game. It reminds me of the incessant government overreach we have now, the refs make repeated bad decisions and are far too keen to red card players which just ruins the game. At least in England. The Southern Hemisphere refs are a bit more level headed.

yes, they used to criticism him for not tackling without any basis now they penalise him for not tackling correctly without any basis !!! and this is the man who has scored a hattrick both for England and also against England at Twickenham.! wankers!

Ref was poor. Did someone at Tigers insult his mother or something? A penalty try and a yellow is too harsh. Should give the attacking team the choice of either to make it interesting or just decide on one, not both. What happened to free kicks? What used to be free kicks are penalties and penalties have become cards.

Out of all the decisions he made youre moaning about the penalty try and yellow? There were 0 problems with that, they always have to send off the offender if they can tell who it is

Quins fans are so annoying. Just like leinster fans defending barnes after their game oblivious to the ref single handily being their best player.

Defending Barnes? You should go ask the Ireland camp how many times he‘s done them wrong internationally..
