Leicester Diwali Lights Switch-On 2023

One of the largest Diwali celebrations outside of India it's got everything from performances, dance, fashion, fireworks and of course the city’s famous lights. This is the 40th anniversary of the event. The Lights switch-on along Belgrave Road, on Leicester’s ‘Golden Mile’ attracts people from all over the city, county and UK. See the annual Mela Rangoli exhibition at Belgrave Neighbourhood Centre with its mixture of modern and traditional Rangoli styles. Music at the Diwali Mela Bazaar and a superb performance from Dhol Crew. The switch-on of 6,000 colourful lamps followed by a spectacular firework display. Up to 40,000 people attend the event, which is presented by the Leicester Hindu Festival Council and Leicester City Council. The world-famous Diwali festival is a Leicester tradition, since 1983 and it that brings communities together to celebrate the Festival of Light. Sunday October 29th 2023.
