This is so great. I am not a cine guy - just a photographer. But like you, I have carefully and meticulously - all through ebay , assembled a fantastic collection of R lenses (180 Elmarit, 100 Elmarit Macro, 85 Lux, 50 Lux) for use with my SL2-S . . . . and I just love love love this combination. These R's perform so beautifully with a new state of the art mirrorless.

  • 3 жыл бұрын

@@KevinReyesDP The Lux are like "the holy grails" of the R series. I just adore the look of those. And I think the faster one gets those, the better - as they tend to increase in price even more (especially the 35 - and even the 80) - as there were not so much of those lenses made.

Congratulations on this awesome set! :-) I have a slightly different set of R lenses I use for photography. I love how you put these lenses to work in moving pictures! Imho theses lenses are the best you can get for adding character to your pics / movies - and still having enough sharpness - and even lots of micro-contrast.

Wonderful! Great DOP in your video! 2 questions: 1) over 35-50-90 summicron and 24-28 Elmarit (that i have), can 135-2.8 (considered among the most successful leicas) make sense for very close-ups or other? And the 180 2.8? No documentaries but video clips, spot etc. 2) about the famous 19 unobtainable, have you had the opportunity to try or see the sedond version, considered another planet than the first? Thank you very much, I signed up!

  • @angloitalo

The Minolta derived R lenses were improved upon by Leitz. They were I believe the 24mm f2:8 Elmarit, a 80-200mm zoom and a 35-70mm zoom. At some point there was a Minolta 500mm catadioptric mirror lens. The Minolta designed R lenses had a shorter back focus. They worked on the Leica Reflex Sl 2 but not the previous Leica Reflex SLR's. The SL 2 had a return mirror that lifted up and out of the way. There were two versions of the 19mmf2:8 Elmarit R. The first one in the video had an 82mm filter thread. Leitz did not recommend using a filter because of vignetting. The second version was smaller with a smaller filter size. I have a copy of the first version. They will bury it with me. :-)

Minolta and Leica has some co-op in the past...some of the Minolta lenses were used as blueprints for Leica R lenses. That is common fact about Minoltas and they are like poor mans Leica...but still has great output. :)

Thanks for watching! I think they both have different looks and ultimately I typically let the nature of what I'm filming inform which gear I use - glass especially. If the vibe is more clean and modern I'll probably lean towards something like the L glass or Sigma, but if I'm going for a gritty look with a lot of artifacts and character, I'll definitely go with the Leicas. Brilliant video dude. How much did the set cost and did you use a pro mist on the sample footages?

Thanks! Some had pro mist, can't remember which though. I usually use 1/8

I use a lot of BPM 1/8, but a few shots I had a DIY UV filter that I spray painted.

I feel like Duclos has a solution to help with drift. I'm about to send four of mine off to them get them looked at. If you're in LA already, you may want to contact them and see if they can fix your problem.

Two month later update: I had three of my lenses worked on by Duclos (24, 35mm f/2, and 50mm f/1.4) They did a spectacular job. The de-click is awesome (it's a permanent no drift solution.) and they also did some CLA servicing that made everything just feel a lot nicer.

Hallo Kevin, Tx for the inspiration. Concerning the 90 mm, which serial are you using. I found a 29... and a 33... in good condition. Which one would you choose? My other Lieca's are in the 29-31 range. Tx!!!!

Congrats on your find! I would test both of them. Shoot the same frames in different environments to see which one you like more. Chances are they'll look very similar. Compare side by side in your editor to see which one you prefer. There may be a slight color shift or one might be slightly detuned from being so old. Also thoroughly inspect the mechanics of each lens as well as the interior and elements. Good luck!

I’ll be posting several comparison videos and looking at color diffeeences but in general, leicas tend to run on the yellow/green side. Stay tuned to see some comparisons!
