    In my case I transitioned from M series cameras to the Q2M. Due to nerve damage in my left land, manual focusing became too much of a challenge and I was missing too many shots. Zone focusing is not something that resonates with me especially after such a heavy investment in Leica glass. My last M camera was the M9 Monochrom, but after getting the Q2M, I decided to let it go. I sold it. The Q2M has become my primary camera, and I love the rich tones I get from it. For all other photography that might require different focal length lenses, I use a Sony A7RIII. Down the road an SL series camera may be in the cards but thus far the bulky size has been a deterrent for me.

    Hi Thorsten, Thanks for all the great videos. I'm researching my first Leica camera. I'm looking at the Q2 or M9. You say that if one buys the Q2, they'll be dreaming about the M camera or switch to it before long. Would this be the case for the M9? If I were to buy the Q2 and then wanted to upgrade, would it be worth looking at the M9 or should I look at the M10 or M11? Are you talking about the creative potential of the M series or technical or both? Because the Q2 seems like a camera that one can use professionally (I'm not a professional yet), and very creatively for a long time and get as much out of as any of the M series cameras...Please could you be more specific on why I'd be wanting to jump to an M? Thank you.

    I wish the review focused more on the key selling point of this camera - the black and white sensor and how does it set it apart from colour cameras in terms of the output image. Enthusiast cameras shoot B&W too and can be as simple or complex as you want them to be.

  • @Myshit41
    @Myshit412 жыл бұрын

    If only I had the funds for one of these 😣 I do, however, set my Sony to B+W mode when shooting street - I try to view the light as much as my subject and colour can be a distraction in that respect. I should add, I don’t always leave the images in B+W during the edit but I know my light/contrast comes out better regardless.

    I'm not sure if I missed something but I was looking to see whether the *quality* of the B&W images out of a Monochrom are better in some way. All I heard was that it is easier. Could you mention something about the quality of the output, as I'd rather get a regular Q2 and just convert to black and white in Post Processing if there is no *quality advantage* with the Monochrom.

  • @m0untaindewJames

    @m0untaindewJames

    Жыл бұрын

    Q2 Monochrom has no Bayer filter (the RGB filter in front of the photo receptors) so it accepts about 1 stop more light and has better low-light capabilities. You will not be able to change the "mix" of RGB that goes into the final B&W output like you can in post production with the regular Q2 though.

    Interesting advice to have it in aperture priority and just use iso 200 or 3200. But why not auto iso? This camera is an iso monster, so at least you can protect your shutter speeds (for those with trembling hands). Thanks for your video!

  • @MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard

    @MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard

    For me, AUTO iso introduces unwanted changes to y settings. You can use AUTO iso, and many does, but then you have to be able to adjust exposure with he thumb wheel. (What I do is set ISO and aperture, and then I only have to deal with shutter speed to get the exposure I want).

    Wow.. What a great timing for me.. It was just last night that I saw a mint used condition q2m for $4000. I've been looking to get a new camera and is about to buy canon r6 with L lens. I'm actually partially colorblind. Often when I edited my raw pictures, my wife would say that the color look awful. I was really sad but there's nothing I could do. So I used a fuji camera at one point just so that I can apply their FILM SIMULATION, and never edit. In the end though I feel no connection to the camera and sold it. I've owned leica m240 with 50 summicron and 28 summicron but I sold it again due to my family and my wife family demanded a quick turnaround photos to be shared to social media when we have a family events. And with leica m I have to edit first from DNG and often the colors isn't satisfactory for some. I feel like the leica q2m will satisfy me a lot. Removing all the burden and distractions of colors. However, I feel selfish if I shoot in B&W since no one but me can appreciate monochrom. Even my wife said to me that she preferred color since she grew up in B&W film era and it reminded her of her young and tough days growing up. So should I be selfish? Or should I be a people pleaser..? I wish I'm not in this position.. Btw, how much uniqueness will I lose out if I choose to buy leica q2 and make it monochrom rather than buying leica q2 monochrom? Cheers for great and informative video again Thorsten 🙏🙏

    It's likely they will. It has to be fixed lens because it's leaf shutter. People often dream of a Leica Q with interchangeable lenses, but that would require a shutter. But I would think they would one day make a 35mm or 50mm Leica Q, maybe both. We'll see.
