    Living in Lehigh Acres for now 17 years, it isn't this eerie little town it is showed to look like through this video. We have our woodland, and abandoned areas, just like any town or city has! But Lehigh Acres is beautiful in the main, city land. Anywhere from Lee Blvd. all the way to Joel Blvd. it's your average quaint town! We are packed with grocery stores, communities, restaurants, bowling alleys, etc. It's an awesome place. Not scary, or an abandoned town. We are just a suburb of the main city of Ft. Myers, so its not as big and fancy as that. But I love it and it is a place more then thousands LOVE to call home. Keep in mind we also have a large amount of schools in our city too!!!!

    This area has an interesting History. Much of it was homesteaded in the 1880'S. Cattle was the main enterprise on the land. It was open range. Cattle were rounded up and branded. Most cattle were shipped to Cuba for $2 a head! There are and have been numerous Boom and Busts in Florida. Lehigh Acres failed when many people who do not know the Real Estate Market became convinced they should buy houses. Prices escalated from the $45,000 ~ $65,000 to $200,oo ~ $300.000, little or minimal down payments. Just like in the 80's a real Estate Bust. Lehigh Acres is a city with many long term residents. In the 50's this area around Olga and Alva, Florida was Cattle and orange Groves. Some of the wells produced Sulfur Water. Cattle like it, people don't. Around 1955 I helped clear stumps on smaller developments around Olga. Where Lehigh Acres is I would ride horses. Would paddle up Hickey's Creek and shoot alligators. Nice memories. Cow and calf operations needed several acres per Cow unit! Lehigh Acres exceeded the carrying Capacity. Still a nice place to retire to. Paying ALL cash. Adam you sure do get around!

    I have lived in this county all of my life, so here is the answer for you. These houses weren't built by individual people. All of these houses were 'spec' houses built back between 2002-2006 or so. Basically the economy was good, and people were getting those cheap loans. So you had a bunch of construction companies starting 100s of houses. Some of these were custom for someone. But most were just made to 'spec', which was you basic house with generic insides, so if someone wanted a house without waiting 6-8 months, they could move in right away. So some of these companies went belly up before the bubble burst, and you would see some of these here and there, then when all of them went under, well you can see for yourself. There are 100's of these house still around. Oh, and don't think that it's a good deal and they just need to be finished. No way. All of these homes would have to be practically torn down and started over due to the building codes being all messed up.

  • @Oldbmwr100rs

    @Oldbmwr100rs

    Building codes not being followed, suspect chinese sheetrock, possible copper thieves, and of course damage from humidity. I'm sure there's plenty of mold in these houses too. You're right, these places would need extensive work to sell them, which is probably why they're likely not listed for sale I'm sure.

    Lived in Lehigh in 2004-2006. Even back then before the real estate bubble burst it was the worst shit hole I'd seen except for parts of Jamaica. I saw garbage, garbage , GARBAGE... EVERYWHERE once you got off the main streets. There were vacant lots with tons of garbage (dump truck loads). I saw people throw a kitchen can size bag of garbage out the car door as they drove down the road. Men would pull over a vehicle and take pee in the road right in a populated area. Gun shots at night, bullet holes in parked cars, on the news "another body found". I got out and never looked back.

    lol, idk about the "bullet holes" ... but the dumping is STILL going on. It's everywhere. You thought it was bad then, come see it now. It's an eyesore. Too many homes .. they just mow all the trees down and leave empty lot. It's just rows full of cookie cutter houses. Oh.. and the crime rate has gone over the roof. A shooting almost every day.

    Early 2000's real estate was booming and these homes began to pop up, some of the homes were bought and for the most part, a lot abandoned because of the recession. The real estate market collapsed. There's abandoned neighborhoods all over America just like this, that didn't make it through the recession

    Lehigh Acres is like something out of the twilight zone, back in the early 2000 every fool and there dog that was part of real estate in Florida starting building houses that cost over $300k to buy, by 2006 most were still vacant, but the real estate firms still took care of the land (cut the crass,etc)... Then the bubble burst, and the $300k+ homes dropped to $100k and still no one wanted them (in Lehigh Acres), so throwing good money after bad trying to coax people into moving & buying into Lehigh Acres fizzled out. A case of greed (lets risk millions of dollars to try and triple our investment) Vs the reality of the housing bubble. Things like that happened all over America (and are still happening), Big investors investing what amounts to billions on 1000s of separate projects knowing that they only need 10% to be successful to make a profit. So when we see things like this....we see millions of dollars wasted, and investors (some, not all) see it as just one of the losing spins on a slot machine that just paid out triple what they put into it.

    I've read some of the comments of people wanting to know what happened. I'm a Florida native and this is the product of unchecked development. Florida never says "No!" There are a lot of greedy developers that bought property and then found no one was buying in the recession. Also, I believe we're tops in foreclosures, so that's what you're seeing. I hate Florida.

We have suffered a lot with the depression. Not all of lehigh looks like this but it is all starting to look like this. Adam if you want to see more places of lehigh i can show you. I know of some haunted places as well. Lehigh needs help they just busted yet again another grow house. This place use to be where old people went to retire now it has turned into drug houses and more crimes. It is home but only because i was born a raised here and once upon a time was a great place.

    I can tell you (not claiming to be an expert but i live four blocks away from the place he was showing mainly,Greenbriar,) the "story" is that starting in the 70's through about '05 the state has created a cycle of building parts of a residential area but not getting anyone to live in them so losing funding, when it started in the 70's after people wouldn't move in and the first bit of houses were abandoned during building created a chain reaction were people wouldn't move in because of the abondoned houses making the area look ugly so i can asure you, no ool story here and i can confirm this because we are far enough from the coast that a flood wouldn't of happend without it being a national consern, toins were not found because if they were, i wouldn't be able to live here, and clearly no chupacabra, btw the sign he passed with the bird on it is next to a HUGE gated community and the way into town, it just looked abandoned because it wasn't well taken care of, but everything he showed in he video is a big picture kind of thing and if you only see a small portion then you are getting a wrong prespective, if you have any other questions please ask.

    I just moved here about three years ago, so here's my take on the community and area. Lehigh has about 95 sq. miles of developable land. It is centrally located in between Estero and Fort Myers. The population is about 90,000 residents. Cape Coral, which boast as the largest City between Tampa and Miami has a population of about 154,000. Fort Myers, arguably, the counties central hub has about 66,000 residents. So I would imagine that makes Lehigh Acres the second largest community in Lee County. Lehigh is about 5 minutes from the Boston Red Sox spring training facility (Jet Blue), and is about 10 minutes from the airport (Southwest Florida International Airport). Lehigh is about a 15 minute drive to downtown Fort Myers and Estero, which is the fastest developing area in Lee right now. Lehigh is also centrally located to all major colleges and universities in the county; about 15 minutes to either Edison (Florida Southwestern) in Fort Myers and FGCU in Estero. Lehigh is also about 20 minutes from either Cape Coral or Bonita Springs downtown shopping areas Lehigh is about a 10 minute drive to I -75 and is bordered by highway 82 which leads to downtown Fort Myers and to the south passes through Immokalee (Seminole Casino) and intersects with I - 75 via HWY 29 at "Alligator Ally". Lehigh has about the same percentages of demographics as other surrounding areas. Lehigh's crime rate has fallen in the last few years, but still remains higher than the national average. and remains higher than other surrounding areas, except for Fort Myers, which has the highest crime rate in the county. Eventually, the county and state will widen HWY 82 and create a road to access Alico in Estero which will make a very large portion of Lehigh very attractive to families that wish to locate here and work in Fort Myers, South Fort Myers, and Estrero! I see this area in the future building up and out to accommodate the rapidly growing commercial, residential, and government entities in Lehigh and the surrounding communities!

    Adam, Back in the late 50's-early 60's, there was a failed subdivision called North Palm Beach Heights in northern Palm Beach County. To the locals, it was "The Heights" and it was a great place for drag racing, rifle shooting, necking, autocross and motorcycle races all self governed by the participants mostly on weekends. No homes at the time but finished streets with road names and such. For years it sat unused until a developer came along and re-started the project and now the place is up and running. Many memories of that location.

    funny show and great way to show "creepy towns" lol, but anyone who lives there will tell you that's only a small portion of lehigh he showed to make his video look better lol. Yeah lehigh has its country parts, but its a normal town with everything you expect. I live there in a nice house 5 bedrooms 3 bath on a half acre lot that is 300 sq ft. so it is truly laughable saying its a "abandoned post apocalypse town" lol

    It's not an abandoned community. Has had over 100,000 people move there in only two decades. It wasn't even abandoned when he made this video. People were getting forcelosed during the economy crash, they just moved houses across the street, they didn't even flee the town, we got more people moving here during that time, not floods of people leaving. This town is overpopulated. I want these people to leave so much. I wish this was an abandoned town. We don't have the roads to support this many people.

I have lived in Ft Myers all of my life, and work only a few miles from where this filmed. Now LA has lots of people, but all spread out. It's like 1% stores to 99% land and houses. To most people that live in an urban area, it looks like a ghost town. Even more if there is a hurricane coming due to no one on the streets. Another thing, you are dead wrong about where he is filming. IDK the exact place, but you can see abandoned and unfinished houses like that right when you first enter town off of 82.

Was there some kind of industry in the area to support this town? If so what happened to it? You showed some kind of empty building that was industrial, what was it? If your going to come across a mystery then you need to explain the mystery. Otherwise this is a pointless video.

    It's a pretty dull place to live (obviously). I lived there for a few years with my dad. You can rent a moderately large house for around $800 a month there. Unfortunately though it was 40 minutes from any walmart and the community is shit. NOBODY CAN DRIVE and literally nobody uses their blinkers. I know of one small roundabout, and NOBODY knows how to use it. It is a scary place to ride a bike, because most of the roads are too thin to allow safe room, some roads only have one bike lane, and most drivers there don't care at all about safety. When I lived there, there was a triple murder not far from my house. I turned 18 and just moved out a few months ago and never plan on looking back.
