LEGO Train Operations on an L-Gauge Switching Layout

Over the past year I have been building this small L-Gauge switching layout. Everything on the layout is scratch built from LEGO bricks. The trains are all 1:48 Scale models of real railway equipment that could have existed in Ontario in the 1950s.
The layout is 30" x 55" with a removeable tail track that extends onto a nearby table. Typical operating sessions involve 4-6 freight cars and can be a fun challenge due to the small sidings and tight clearances.
I have had to take apart the layout now but before dismantling it I wanted to record this video showing how the layout is operated.

The valve gear on the locomotive looks really good. I also like how prototypical the rolling stock is, and this L gauge layout is starting to feel more like model railroading than Lego at this point. I think you had maybe one of your previous layouts with the diesel high hood locomotive and an oval track layout, and that one inspired me to make my own Lego Shay MOC in a narrow gauge scale. Hope to get a motor for it soon

Love the steam engine, but don't think I didn't notice that CP FM Trainmaster in the corner of your desk! That's worth a like on its own! Lol

I hope so too, it came apart in pieces so hopefully I can put it back together sometime, and maybe even expand it!

The boxcar, gondola and flatcar are BMR? Consolidation is your own MOC? I am building an Inglenook layout, i use Melltorp Ikea table as benchwork because they are 3x3 or 3x5 32 studs baseplates (LGMS measures). Try to use MILS, it is good to store Good luck with the expansion

Do you happen to know the type and quantity of R104 pieces used in this?

Beautiful switching layout Calvin! Am in the midst of making a switching layout/diorama with a small station, some sidings that lead out to the main line across a truss bridge and into the hidden sidings. Looking forward to more videos like this! Btw, where did you get the coupling rods for the Canadian National 2476? Looks almost metal on video.

Thank you! The rods I designed myself and then had them 3D printed through Shapeways. I then spray painted them to get that metallic silver colour.

Great little build. It's fun to watch these little switching videos. If you don't mind me asking. What's the radius of the switches you used?
