These sets for such a small price give you the experience of building the coolest 18+ sets. That's why I love speed champions (oh yes, the parts themselves are also very cool, I'm a system MOC'er)

I like their size for being able to easily display them easily! in contrast to some of the technic cars that can take up a lot of real estate

I'm a modular collector. SC appeals to me for the same reasons - all the technique and innovation in an Expert set but crammed into a tiny space. I'd actually argue that Speed Champions requires even more ingenuity due to its size and requirement to faithfully replicate real-world items.

I love these sets but i hate how mostly the headlights are just stickers. It severely detracts from the look of the finished model. The Lambo is well done though with the stickers under the Lego pieces.

Nice review, thanks! Two additions to the Countach: in the real version, the steering wheel is'nt aligned with the driver seat as well, as the big front wheels take so much space, the driver is sitting a bit angled towards the middle of the car. The suplied minifigure most likely represents Valentino Balboni, the legendary former test driver of Lamborghin (and he usualy wore such an 70s/80s leather jacket and jeans). So even more attention to details from Lego!

  • @RacingBrick

Do you have any reference about the steering wheel's position? As I read the pedals are shifted to the right, but the steering wheel is actually shifted to the left.

@@RacingBrick if you look at photos of the dash, you can see the centre column of the steering wheel doesn't line up with the central line of stitching on the chairs. The steering wheel is shifted slightly to the center of the car.

I'm really looking forward to this Speed Champions wave, the techniques and new elements used look interesting and the level up in detail you can really see. I'm mostly looking forward to the Aston Martin pack and the Lotus finally getting British makes but the Lambo and Ferrari will be clear highlights.

Didn't the original countach had the spoiler placed in a way that it totally blocked the rear view? So for me the thick spoiler of the lego model is more like an easteregg than a flaw

Yes. It also caused the car to go slower, and created zero downforce. It was only a cosmetic part. However, it did look much cooler with the wing. And the countach already looks cool

Speed Champions has me regularly buying sets again. Next level LEGO. Constantly amazed at how much detail they manage to fit in a small model. The Lotus and Lambo are a must-buy for me. That Lambo is really top-notch, and an Iconic model to boot. Not too interested in the Ferrari. Very nice that you continue to cover Speed Champions. Also, I think offering criticism is a sign that you take the design seriously. It's a sign of respect.

I've finally built the Countach - the headlights use internal reflection through the clear bricks to bring up the image from the stickers underneath! I've never seen that before, and this idea never occurred to me. It is such an amazing technique and produces an awesome effect. Not to mention all the other awesome craziness in this set. Mind blowing.

Fantastic rundown on the build assembly, details, accuracy of each model. Really looking forward to building the entire wave in March. Though the simplest of the three builds, countach still looking the best, though the printed canopy looks almost grey against the white of the actual car. Lego really needs to improve that.

I remember years ago when I built the 6 wide McLaren Senna set. I can really see the visible difference in making these sets 8 and even 9 studs wide. This was definitely a needed improvement, as these are as close to die-cast cars as you will get for such an amazing price. Love speed champions, and love your videos, keep up the great work!

Not been long into Lego again, but these sets are just sang to me - being 8-wide, makes them superb display models and are super collectable. I definitely want these three, I have five already, and need more!! Thanks for the constructive views; there has to be a lot of compromise, but the fact they are coming up with unique pieces, and starting to introduce Technic assemblies, says to me that Lego are taking note and trying to improve all the time - which can only mean that these little beauties will be around for a while yet.

I just built the Ferrari 512M last night. 3:02 I found that the replacing the flat painted clear brick on the side of the head lamps with a solid red flat brick greatly improves the look. If you look at the actual car on the box you will see the headlamp has more of a boundary separating it from the fender. Plus the painted brick does not match the red bricks. A solid red brick greatly improved either side and front look of my model. I also used two black L bricks under the chassis to lower the axle and allow for the clearance of two large racing slick tires, again, in accordance with the photo of the actual car. Minor details. The car itself already looks great built to specs.

They've done many great things with this new wave, i agree with you on the color variation between brick, prints, stickers, etc... all this should match very close together as it's truly takes off from the look when not matching. I'd like to see in the future of Speed Champions the introduction of a wider wheel that goes along their "standard", so the cars that have staggered wheels/tyre setup are done correctly. Otherwise... i'll be buying all of these in a heartbeat!

I remember the days when lego cars where pretty much just bricks put on top of each other and some wheels that were the same for all the sets. These are completely next level super detailed and probably as true to the original forms as it can get. However I feel that is kind of a drawback of these sets - they kind of fall into the uncanny valley of Lego sets, they look very close to original to be recognizable but not enough to be a really good representation of original. It's kind of a thin line between Lego and a classic plastic breakout models.

In my opinion, I don't think you are too critical. You're simply pointing out what should be said and help us make up our minds on whether this is a set we may or may not want. I have heard of many collectors who have had bad complaints about the color matching and it can be a big deal breaker for some. So pointing it out is definitely something that needs to be said.
