the bricklink designer program is much closer to what everyone always wanted ideas to be. since the change too much from the original ideas moc i think the bdp is the way to go for lego hobbyist that want to stick to the lego group.

@@idonjohnson6999As long as this doesn't become exactly or too similar to Ideas, it doesn't matter whether Lego owns it or not. The point was never to stick it to Lego. Rather to get what people wanted out of a MOC-based program.

The bigger thing is that it gives the fans what they want instead of a buildable typewriter or a bunch of flowers. I’ve seen a Ratatouille set get rejected several times for significantly less interesting ideas.

Thanks for this review! I especially appreciate your discussion of what sets the Bricklink Designer Program apart from LEGO Ideas, since many people don't understand the difference. I agree that the high prices and exclusivity of the sets in the BDP are not meant to encourage hoarding for resale, but instead to make it possible for fan designers to have their detailed MOCs realized as close to their original design as possible. 😊

This is by far my favourite from BDP Series 1 and I will definitely buy one of these to integrate into my 12V train layout and the good old 7750 steam locomotive will be the first to puff into the engine shed for some repairs.

I think that this set is a reference from set number 10027 Train engine shed. Think that the designer had this idea in mind. To be fair, i find bricklink or ideas sets, not really official lego sets but more like the mocs you can find online. (If they are official why not put them on there own official webstore since this feels more like a ''you're not good enough for us but we will make money of you'').

Man, if only we had some nice official steam train models from Lego to put in it. I mean I guess you could use the Harry potter or orient express ones but they'd look a bit out of place in a dingy old shed. We need a tank engine or something.

  • @WizardOfOss

It's a pretty cool set, and I like all the detail inside. From the outside....it's a bit small and the glossy roof doesn't look great either And I did like the additional stuff from the original Ideas version If I was looking for an engine shed with around €200, I'd rather go for the one from BlueBrixx. As for BDP, I quite like the concept, but I think they should get rid of the 30k limit to discourage scalpers. And I have a few issues with this wave. I don't mind this train shed, as it is unlike anything Lego has on offer. The Parisian Street looks like a lesser Modular set, and the Mountain Fortress feels a bit too close to the Lion Knights' Castle. The other two sets look fine, just not for me. And again a focus on expensive sets, with just one below €100....

I plan to get both for a comparison. Considering the price it's not THAT bad... yes looking at you Star Wars and Marvel series. I also got the hospital from Bluebrixx and the LEGO version. Honestly, the more I look at the LEGO hospital the more I hate it. I was moving my modular building row around, pushed it aside and it fell apart!

BDP is absolutely the way to go for fan designers now. Ideas started out as an amazing program, but it's way too saturated now. There's also too much confusion around it. LEGO fans get annoyed when LEGO changes the submitted design, but that's not what they were really voting on. It was always just the product pitch NOT the set. BDP is what people think Ideas is, and it DELIVERS! 🖤💙💜💙🖤

OMG!!😮 This Old Train🚂 Engine Shed is actually a full-size bricked up🧱Building!! Love the old school architecture, the contrasting brick colors, the roof, the small details(gantry crane!)and minifigs, side builds, but most of all the space inside!! It fits that HP Train easily, and has such a realistic feeling interior. Know there's some LEGO Train🚃 fans in the community who'll appreciate this basically custom MOC. A deal really at $230, especially if you have the space in a track layout for it and for sure this one's investment grade. Big Props to the designer!!😃 Even the walls on it look fun to build!👍

Interesting that this set already contains the glossy 8x16 tile, introduced in 2024, which means it will replace the matt finish one for future UCS sets as well. Must be easier to print without the rough surface, or it needs less print layers for the same print quality. Sadly the ugly sprue mark is still on the front. Also, the 6x6 remained matt, so the roof will look weird with the mix of surface roughness.

If I get this set I would honestly turn it more into if it's been abandoned for years and put the ghost train express in it since that set's train already expresses abandoned and run down (what with the cracked glass stickers for the front of the train, the beat up/scratch mark stickers for the sides, and overall it's general appearance.)

Whatever they do, people will complain. I personally don't think 2 sets encourage scalpers that much, maybe if it would be 5 or so. It's an opportunity for people to build one, and there'll be some left for the secondary market. A lot of countries are left out, that will be their only chance to get these sets.

@PlazDreamweaver it seems lego never considers the secondary market (well, maybe except star wars line). That's why they limited this round to only 2 copies per person. That is not a normal free-market thing. Imagine you go to buy trousers and there's a limit for only two pairs.

A few years back a similar program was run through Bricklink. There was a 5000 unit cap and the cool sets were gone in half an hour. That miss-run program turned me off of lego for a for a few years. I started building and buying again a few months ago. I will be curious to see how badly this program plays out. I get the need for a minimum run but I do not understand why Lego puts a production run maximum on any of these. Presumably they make a profit on each set sold so why stop sales at an arbitrary number that kills the vibe for those who miss out?
