@dylansharp8471 former gifted kid here to explain! A "gifted kid" is someone who's "unusually good at most things," and so they never really had to struggle. When they do see something challenging, they don't know how to deal with it, and so they kinda give up on things they aren't amazing at. This is usually referred to as "gifted kid burnout." Nya, not being good at the water ninja thing at first, gives her a sense of "gifted kid burnout." Thank you for coming yo my TEDtalk

This show did a good job with the chosen one plot. It really annoys me when a protagonist of the show is given the tile of the chosen one. I think its more interesting to give it to a side character and let them fight along side the protagonist. Also, I love the fact that Lloyd has a giant green 5 on his first uniform that is never explained. It's foreshadowing that is ironically funny because it's just there for no reason.

Another weird part of Ninjago is the "exclusive lore". The staff are surprisingly open to discussion on Twitter, so the writers have actually given answers to unexplained questions, making them basically canon. So now there's "extra lore" that's exclusively dug up on Twitter or archived in the Wiki. As cool as it feels for a fan to get their question answered in the moment, it's bad because the show itself should've explained those things Also, unrelated, but what made me personally love Ninjago was the inter-connection between the show and the "Lego side". In the first few years there was an insanely high-effort website that gave an absurd amount of detail and context to every single thing in the Lego sets. Every weapon had a name and description, every minor enemy had a bio and even a perfectly-looped animation, there was an entire _flora and fauna encyclopedia,_ and there were full games that gave new lore (ex. one game establishes Jay and Cole as best friends 4 years before the show did). The Lego sets themselves also gave tidbits like the differences between the suits the Ninja wear. Add the amazing set commercials to that and it was genuinely the best marketing I've ever seen. But now Ninjago doesn't have to try as hard, I miss stuff like that

TBH, it’s always killed me immensely that Kai’s (and Nya’s) relationship to Lloyd has never been properly expanded on, especially considering that REALISTICALLY, they SHOULD be the closest to Lloyd. They, like Lloyd, felt (and highkey WAS) abandoned by their parents, and basically had to raise themselves. Kai and Nya should have been the first to empathize with Lloyd when they found out about his parents. Kai and Nya should have been the people he got closest to, because they mirror integral aspects of Lloyds life and experiences. Nya constantly ends up having to play second fiddle to Kai (and the boys in general actually), and is always on the sidelines, similar to Lloyd pre-aging up. Nya wanting to be a good sister figure to him should have been added in, especially since she knows how important having someone like a sibling would be if you didn’t have your parents. She’d never want someone like Lloyd feeling alone. Kai’s protectiveness would 100% be extended to Lloyd by pure virtue of him being essentially an orphan with parents that explicitly *chose* to leave him. Like there’s so much character that could have been built here but I guess it just never crossed their minds. Or if it did, they didn’t have enough time to establish it for whatever reason.

For how Zane is captured, it's explained in the video-game "Shadow of Ronin" that Chen hired the Bounty Hunter Ronin to capture Zane and Pixal for him. It explains how Zane was captured and gives credit to Ronin, showing him to be a skilled and intelligent Bounty Hunter who knows how to do a job effectively. I won't hold this against you though as a) This question was answered in a video-game instead of the show itself (bad look) and b) It still doesn’t answer how Chen even knew or cared about Zane and the Ninja unless he already had spies keeping tabs on them.

Believe it or not, your opinions aren't too far off from how the Majority of Ninjago Fans feel. Sons of Garmadon and Hunted are considered by most fans to be the absolute best of the series, Hands of Time, The Island, Day of the Departed and March of the Oni aren't necessarily considered bad but still are far from a lot of peoples favorites, and Crystalized is notorious at this point for being an incredibly divicive season I didn't watch the first Ninjago video you did with LS Mark but I will fully admit that a lot of Ninjago Fans are *way* too attached to this kid's show for thier own good. I hope that this time you don't get as large of a backlash lol Speaking as a 23 year old Autistic Man who's been watching Ninjago since it's beginning and has more emotional attachment to it than I probably should, I've really enjoyed watching you break down the series in its entirety. It's helped me to realize I have been a little nostalgia blind in regard to how good the older seasons actually were regardless of how much I still ultimately love them

The aesthetic of Crystalized has something really interesting, that being the switcharoo of which race between dragons and oni are the “good” and “bad” ones. The Crystal King and his army are dragon themed, and Lloyd has his oni form and the plot’s need for oni powers. It’s even more interesting when you look back and realized what the Overlord’s final form was in season 2: a dragon. They totally had the opportunity to connect Overlord TO dragons, recontextualizing an unimportant detail from the past, but never did. I know it means nothing compared to all the season’s other problems but it’s another missed opportunity to me.

checking the wiki on the writers, Crystalized was written by 6 people, normally seasons are written by 3 occasionally with 1 or 2 more but for this season it was 6, those additional 3...have no prior involvement from what I'm seeing and on top of that the remaining 3? Are all writers of S11-15, which outside of Seabound are all a mixed bag for various reasons (mainly tone), so yeah I think that's why Crystalized was so bad, it had too many writers and they all were basically new, while the original writters of Ninjago (it's creators) have left after the 10th season concluded

I'm glad someone brought it up with season five because it was something that I always thought was such a great and obvious idea that I don't know why the writers didn't realise it. Having a dyconamy between Kai and Morro throughout the season would have been so compelling and give both characters more depth. They are clear reflections of what could have happened to the other if they went down the other's path as the other, Kai seeing who he might have turned into if he never moved on from his obsession to become the green ninja and let himself become consumed by it like Morro had. As a plus, in season four, when Kai is being controlled by the staff of elements, he lets slip about some underlining feelings that might have remained even after accepting he wouldn't become the green ninja, deep down still jealous of Lloyd, desperate for his powers and believing he deserved them more. It gives the two an unresolved tension going into season five that neither wants to bring up because Kai doesn't want to admit that some part of him still thinks this way and Lloyd is struggling on how to bring that up to him, especially with how he seems to view him as an older brother figure. It would justify Kai's more intense worries and guilt compared to the other ninja as he tries to take the lead constantly and making reckless decisions on his own throughout the season to save Lloyd, which would lead to compelling back and forth between Kai and Morro with Lloyd slipping in every once and awhile as he tries to fight back against his possession. While on the other hand, Morro gets glimpses of what life he could have gotten if he had accepted that his fate wasn't to become the green ninja, maybe through Lloyd's memories seeing the ninja as a family and realising what he let himself miss because of how he let the prophecy control his life to the point it brought him to his death. Sensei Wu did find him on the streets so he would be envious of how the ninja became the family he never had when he always lacked one, even regretting how he flipped out on Wu which ruined any relationship they had which perhaps grew into more than just teacher and student but father and son. I think this addition would make his sort-of-death/sacrifice at the end of the season feel more emotional as he passes on into the afterlife for good, apologising to Wu for becoming so desperate to be the chosen one of the prophecy while the latter does the same for letting his expectations grow so high when there was a chance he wouldn't be the green ninja like he believed before he "dies" (a more permanent death). I just thought of some of this on the spot so it might be a bit flimsy and it's a lot of thought into a kids tv show but I still hold a lot of love for Ninjago despite its many flaws since I watched it constantly growing up and was my favourite thing to watch back then. I do wanna say something about Skybound and why i think Jay's Last wish was not as dumb as you showed it. First off, If i recall correctly, Jay was from the start of the season, kind of set up to make this wish. It was heavily implied that he had to wish from the heart, something genuine, something he struggled against. Logic and throwing shit at the wall didn't work because Nadakhan expected it, he WANTED to play somebody. Not to mention by the time the team was assembled, Nadakhan was already broken out of his curse, meaning he didn't have to obey by wishing rules, so he can grant his own wishes. In that moment he was basically unstoppable, untill getting shot by the poison. Which actually brings me to the point, the entire setup for the wish you thought was quote unquote "Dumb" for me felt like the best way to beat Nadakhan, because not only is it Jay's real, undisputed desire to patch things up with Nya, the villian is basically incapacitated (Which now that i think about it, you didn't mention, like at all. It's a pretty big plot point) Every other Ninja either tried to outsmart him or didn't know he was trying to get them at first. Idk i just feel like your criticism of the season falls short now that i think about it.

The wish is insanely dumb. First of all, Jay wishes for two things, that Nya had taken his hand and that the teapot had never been found. Without any tinkering with the wish in the first place, only the first one should’ve been granted. Yet, both are. Second, Nadakhan is clearly cognitive and able to think, just in pain, given by the fact that he literally taunts and tells Jay to make his final wish. He could’ve easily twisted the wish, and just doesn’t for no reason. He could’ve only granted the first one, or granted the second one and twisted it to be no one has ever found the teapot ever, so he never gets trapped and gets to rule Djinnjago (until it dies, at least). And even then, he would’ve known when and could’ve stopped the ninja before. But this could’ve all been solved anyways because Jay’s entire B-Team still have three wishes (along with literally ANYONE in Ninjago) and could’ve wished for everything to go back to normal (plus a number of other wishes). The scene, and wish, and concept… is dumb.

  • @borikidor

@@zame-osomething5096sure jay wished for two things but that wasn't really an atempt to defeat Nadakhan. It wasn't even directed at Nadakhan. Jay said to Nya: "I wish YOU would've taken my Hand, abd no one ever found that teapot in the first place." Nadakhan turned back time when Jay wished for the tea pot to never be found, but It was Nya who granted the wish of taking his hand. Because she wanted it. It was Her call.

  • @thedeathskuller8665

    @thedeathskuller8665

Expcept the wish isn't dumb at all Jay only wishes for one thing but he phrases the wish a simple cause and effect from Jay's perspective the Nya not taking his hand is the cause for Clouse finding the teapot, hence the core of Jay's wish revolves around the teapot not being found. Nadakahn is CLEARLY not cognitive he doesn't taunt Jay at all he only instinctively grabs his sword and moves towards him. His line "Your wish is yours to keep", is something he says all the time and obviously doesn't take much thought to say thirdly, even the hypothetical ways Nadakahn could have twisted the wish that you have said up wouldn't work. Let's say he just grants the first part then the ninja don't get found by the paparazzi and stop Clouse and the teapot is never found. While yes your second scenario could work there's still a chance that something worse could happen to Nadakahn in the years between when he was trapped and the present that Nadakahn likely wouldn't want to risk. There's no guarantee that he would survive the fall of his realm or even be capable of stopping it. Your B team argument falls flat because you ignores the first half of what the original poster said about logic based wishes not working, Jay has always been a character who acts with his heart first rather than his brain. In season 1 his character arc was completed when through Nya he was able to overcome his insecurities and love himself so that she could love him. His first wish was made to get Nya back, his second wish was made because his heart couldn't bare to be alone. Both times Nadakahn didn't twist the wish at all, Jay's wishes have consistently been shown to be one's that Nadakahn couldn't twist because they're not logic based. Their based on emotion but not irrational emotion like Zane had when he lost Pixel, why risk it with a B team partially filled up of people who are most logic based characters like the commissioner, or Ronin, or Echo Zane all logic based characters, the only reliable wisher the B team really had was Skylar, but even then why take that risk when Jay's wishes have had a confirmed 100% success rate up until that point

The underlying problem with Wishing powers is the same one that the Mega weapon had: when the limitations are vague or not air tight, it's easy to work around them, making them overpowered. Why not wish that Nadakhan never existed? Why not wish that his wishes intended out exactly like we wanted them to, not how he misinterprets them. Why not just wish that he would be on our side? It would take 3 seconds to beat him and all the deception in the world on his end couldn't do a thing to change it.

Crystallized actually was meant to end differently and if they stuck with the original concept it would have been sooo much better. So basically, Nya was supposed to never come back and stay fused with the ocean, occasionally helping fishermen like we’ve seen, but a mere husk of former self. The ninja would have come back together when the Venge stone situation kept on getting worse, just like they did in the actual show ( a beautiful scene btw). They wanted to explore the origin of the Overlord and lean on heavily into the Oni lore. Apparently the First Spinjitzu Master renounced his Oni part and it manifested as the Overlord, which is very smart actually. Not only would it make sense, but it would also act as a mirror/foil to Lloyd and his struggle. The crystal council and Harumi would have still happened but perhaps it would have been better. In the finale battle, Garmadon was supposed to die making Lloyd lose control and be consumed by his Oni form. He would have destroyed the Overlord and took his place as the ruler of ninjago (you can see that in the sets, the figure of Lloyd sits on a throne ). However, here is where Nya would have returned in her ocean form in order to stop Lloyd. And with the help of the others Lloyd would have been brought back to the light. I think this would have been sooo much better. A full circle for Lloyd’s character (with him being one of the first “villains”)and it wouldn’t have destroyed the beauty that was Seabound. The next series however, does a very good job with the characters and story. I think you will be pleased( I promise it is a massive improvement over Crystalized).

About Garmadon and the Golden Weapon, yes, he COULD do any of that. But you forget the biggest reason he doesn't. He doesn't want to. Yes, he has a physical urge to destroy and conquer, but he as a person doesn't actually want to do it. So he does the minimal amount that could be considered "evil" but that isn't actually very harmful. In a way, it's just like Lloyd stealing candy.

For anyone asking "How the hell did the writing get so bad after season 11" there's a reason, the old writers didn't work on those. the Hageman brothers, Kevin and Dan, were the sole writers (besides season 2 since they had a new partner for that season) for every single episode up till day of the departed and Season 7 where they just weren't there, later coming back to write Seasons 8 and 9 with a new partner Bragi Schut. After season 9 they left Bragi to do Season 10 and the rest of the series, Bragi btw was not fully versed in Ninjago beforehand and was picked as a writer because of his film background with films like escape room and season of the witch (Not the Halloween movie the one with Nick Cage), and given that season 10 was so short and seasons 11-13 were 11 minute episodes it's clear Bragi was potentially thrown into an environment he wasn't fully accustomed to and given the episodes were coming out blazing fast (seasons 10-13 were all release within a year and a half), he and the other writers probably still weren't ready which is clear why Season 14 was leagues better since they actually had time to try and make the formatting better, until season 15 where they got like 3 new writers on the series and were probably the main reason the season wasn't anywhere near good since they wrote the worst parts like 1501 being written by Bragi while 1502, the episode they bring Nya back was written by a newbie to the series. For a source just look up the Wikipedia article on the series, thanks for reading and thanks for coming to my ted talk.

With the Nadakahn thing, yes those wishes could work, if they could have made them. One of Nadakahn's tricks is that if he doesn't like the wish you are making, he can simply teleport away before you finish it. He cant grant a wish he can't hear. The only way around this is to get the tiger widow venom, which can weaken him so he cant teleport, and thus he can be forced to grant any wish you want. That's why the ninja couldn't end him with a single wish, Nadakahn would never let them make it. The time travel wish was the only wish they made during the season, that Nadakahn was forced to grant. For Unigami, no, he can't just kill everyone immediatly with no chance, BECAUSE he is the game. He is an AI, yes, but he was also designed to be a game. You have to be able to beat a game, so Unigami had to be able to be beaten.

As someone who followed Ninjago from seasons 1-13 since its early days on Cartoon Network, I remember when that infamous video with you and Mark dropped. The Ninjago community was livid and I was no exception. When the video went down, I wondered if you would acknowledge it at some point, either as its own video or in a throwaway gag. Now over 3 years later, I certainly didn't expect for you to review the ENTIRE show. That is not something I could ever ask of anyone, so the fact you were willing to go that far after screwing up really shows how determined you were to get it right. Even though you were roasting my childhood on a spit, I actually laughed this time because I knew you were being fair. I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your effort. Thx! 😎😎 P.S. I didn't watch Crystalized despite my little siblings best efforts because of bad reviews. Now that I have a little more knowledge of it, I wish to remove it from my memory immediately. 🔪🧠

The way you worded your criticisms was hilarious. Excellent writing overall. As someone who grew up on Ninjago and recently binged it again, I couldn't help but laugh with most of your criticisms. I'm always able to brush it off a little bit as "meh it's a kid's show that sells LEGO sets and it's only really good when they let the story get really dark," but all your notes were valid either way. You pointing out the flaws made me laugh because I sympathize with them, and I thought it was funny you sounded so angry about every choice. I've gotten to a point where I love the series so much that I will also openly laugh at it, because no matter what, I can't escape its overall charm. As a kid Possesion was my favorite (I think it's mostly due to the designs), and as an adult Sons of Garmadon was perfectly dark. But any fondness I have for those seasons is definitely injured by the shitshow that is the "series finale," LMAO. I was not buying it, but I still watched it. Thank you for your video!

Brought back evil garmadon who almost killed Lloyd and led to him losing his powers Garmadons rock thing destroyed the bounty almost killing the 4 ninja and Wu and trapping the 4 ninja and Wu in the 1st realm Helped Garmadon conquer Ninjago. Brought back the Overlord United the crystal council Captured Lloyd Nearly killed the ninja with bombs Blew up the monastery and nearly killed Nya The Overlord almost killed all the ninja, destroyed the bounty and he nearly corrupted the entirety of Ninjago. How did the writers think she deserved redemption and in the dumbest way ever Harumis "redemption" makes no fucking sense. She learns that the overlord possesed the great devourer and bit Garmadon and Harumi is so angry she attacks him. But the overlord biting garmadon isnt what led to the great devourer killing her parents. The overlord didnt control the great devourer when it killed her parents he had no role in it. It's really fascinating to look at this show with a critical eye. I was a child when it started coming out, and I watched a lot of really big episodes as they were airing at a friend's house, so I have a ton of nostalgia for this show, especially the first two seasons. But they really aren't as good as I remember them being, I think I'm just attached to these characters so much that I never really noticed, even when I watched the series when I was older. That's what I get for having Lloyd as my favorite character.

I thought the show was originally supposed to end when Garmadon was redeemed. Today i learned that THAT WAS ONLY SEASON 2?! WTF i remember so much shit happening, how was that only 43 episodes?! This is like learning that dreams only take up about 30 seconds of real time, bro that shit felt a lot longer. And you're telling me that was only about 1/7th of the actual show?

Normal tv show trying to sell toys Overextends the story Adds random transformations and/or weapons for toys Bad story writing Ninjago 90% of the same but somehow 500% better and more enjoyable

Congrats, even though most of the fandom wouldn't agree at certain points (Even me), at least is was a honest viewpoint towards the series by analyzing everything. It's a gut-punch, sure, but I respect it 👍

Zane killed the Overlord by channeling the power of the golden weapons through his heart and turning it on the Overlord. He was channeling basically the power of the Mega Weapon to create ice to protect his family-- which y'know. Only Garmadon could survive using that thing, so his heart exploded. I like it a lot. Also, I hope you like Dragons Rising. The writing really surprised me. Especially Kai's. It was really good. It wasn't as emotionally charged as 8 and 9, but it was very good and very fun.

Shoutout to series that are meant to basically be commercials advertising a product and at first being cheesy, kinda tropey, though charming romps with their fair share of bangers and stinkers of episodes that by the time you get to later seasons/series it’s about using said products to defeat inter dimensional gods and/or demons and/or spirits, gotta be one of my favorite genders. (Saying this as a Yu-Gi-Oh fan)
