They first need to know how high the demand is. If these sets sell well then they will likely release cheaper/smaller sets. They also responded to someone asking a similar thing on a different social media and their response was that people should be looking out for them.

Why are Lego so scared of giving us tall legs? I understand for the last 10 years because they'd not been used since Toy Story but we've had Avatar and Eggman using tall legs recently so why are they still using regular ones for figures like Sauron and Gru?

I think the Orc kitchen is a family friendly replacemet for the torture chamber where Gollum ratted out the Shire.

The built in gradient near the top of the tower is very pretty

Looks great overall, but for this price tag they should have made new prints for Frodo and Sam so they would be accurate to this part of the movie.

Sauron should have that avatar tall minifig legs...

I want battle packs, gondor soldiers/rangers, Rohan, orcs, elf’s!!!! Bring it all on Lego I’m ready!

1.) The build and interior is immaculate, even if I cannot see where all the bricks are going from the pics. The light needs a toggle to stay on. 2.) The Orcs and baddies look great. However, Gollum looks a bit off and less iconic than his 2010s LEGO version. Missed opportunity to use long Avatar legs and arms for Sauron. 3.) The heroes are lazy, inaccurate reuses that look nothing like Frodo and Sam from this point in the film. 4.) The Felbeast GWP is less than inspired. A few Nazgûl should've been in the set, if not the Fellbeast itself. (But better, of course.) 5.) Or LEGO could actually make smaller sets, like a proper Fellbeast with the Witch King, Éowyn, Pippin, and Théoden. The Brickheadz aren't doing it.

This looks incredible, but why can't Lego make smaller desirable sets that don't cost more than half a month's rent? The GWP is nice, but I'm sure it will only be available for a week or less because they want to cause FOMO, which is gross.

Personally, I love it when reviews do more than just review the set, specifically, I would love if you would put it in perspective with some of the taller sets lego has made in that scale (ninjago city gardens/daily bugle/etc)

it seems like everything about this is sort of B+ acceptable, but there are lots of missed opportunities to make it more deluxe given the price.

It is cool to see Gothmog in it. Certainly a surprise! As a good as he can be just using a regular minifig head.

Im still saving for Rivendel 😭

I’m a little disappointed that the helmet and shoulder armor piece for Sauron is a single mold as we can’t use it for custom large-scale figure builds.

You can actually expand the height of the set. It’s designed to accommodate a second Barad-Dur purchase 😬

Yes! Lego finally made another Lego Batman movie set! All jokes aside though, I’m actually excited for that new Sauron minifigure & it’s nice to see an updated Gollum minifigure with a modern design for the eyes instead of those clone wars style eyes we got previously.

Shame its not a fully closed tower. I was hoping for something kinda like the Lego Motorised lighthouse where its fully enclosed but has sections you can remove to see the interior. Ah well I still can't wait to get this, it's honestly the one Lego set that I've always wanted lego to do ever since they first brought out the Lord of the rings theme.

Is it weird that I want to see it next to one of the large scale Disney castles😂

Either we get brickheads or $400+ sets for LOTR. Don’t get me wrong, this is a day 1 purchase for me. But, Id like a bit of mid sized sets. Even if they don’t want to go playset size, $250 sets would be nice.

I have been picking up and extending shift specifically to justify purchasing this day 1. I’m utterly obsessed with both lord of the rings and Lego, and after the absolute triumph that was Rivendell, I’m beyond exited for this.

i think what this set is most similar to is the disney castle that came out last year. the height dimensions are near identical and they have a flat open back with a bunch of rooms. I feel like I don’t see how that set could be 5500 pieces but it looks pretty darn cool

Wow, a man like Jang only ever watched LOTR once. Kinda surprises me. I think they should have given us Frodo and Sam in Orc disguise since that was how they were closest to this place.

That’s like $1400 for 3 LOTR/DnD sets from the last couple years, i can’t handle it, and if I don’t get em they’ll end up like $800 apiece, it’s not a good feeling. I can still expect every good deal to be missing the entirety of the minifigures when it comes to bricklink and stuff.

Man long gone are amazing LEGO sets at a decent price it's seriously sad. Even the Rivendell set in Australia is $800 and this will be the same. $1600 for 2 LEGO sets should make anyone disgusted and just makes even thinking about collecting these a massive financial mistake. I seriously wish that wasn't the case because i would love all these.

There are tons of amazing cheap sets for adult collectors too, but I agree, they have this obsession with massive minifig scale sets lately and at the end of the day, one has to make choices, we unfortunately can't have it all

​@@edoardom3677yeah people exaggerate like this and make it seem like there are no decent priced great Lego sets. They still exist. It's just Lego has been slowly increasing the upper limits for their bigger sets. That's fine for some stuff but it's annoying when that line only has those few sets and nothing more affordable

Great review! I remember when you could order dvd’s from a service through the mail for like $0.01 and they sent each LOTR movie, which I never opened to watch. I think I ending up gifting to a friend instead. Ha $400, wow, I would like to use this for a potential mortal kombat build!

I would like to see comparison of the armor prints on the figures with the previous ones. Very keen to see if they’re unique

The brick built Eye is amazing, really good job. Had it been a sticker or print I would have been really disappointed. I don't have any LotR sets and frankly I don't think I will get it, but if I had to pick one it would be this over Rivendell. It's THE iconic thing out of the movies.

Tower looks great. But I‘m a little underwhelmed by the GWP, to be honest. It looks too basic for the rest of the line. I was hoping for a more fleshed out and more detailed build which also could have been done in the same size. Chance missed, unfortunately…

seeing that the tower itself is made of modular sections, im sure we'll see some mocs to add a bit of height to the tower. Regardless im pretty pleased with it overall

This thing could not have been minifig scale. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it would have had to have been three times higher, maybe more. Barad-dûr is immense!

Might be worth rewatching the end of the third movie in preparation for the review. Also, if I remember right, a minifigure scaled Barad-dur would be ~45 meters tall.

Hey JANG, i missed most of the 1st time we had this theme, this tower could be about $1000nzd, lots of coin.

3:30 reminds me of when I built a police station MOC (or more of an alt built from the 1999 green window juniorized police station), and I put a pizza kitchen in the lobby. My brother said, "When you walk into a police station, you don't see a pizza. You see police stuff!" Of course, they could have just been eating pizza while working on a case.

Here's an idea, what if you placed Heroica orcs on the exterior? They are closer to scale.

Would've been an awesome play set for older kids who dig LOTR. As it stands, you could instead get a more detailed + cheaper replica instead if it's just for display.

I wish they kept the larger eyes and old arm style for Gollum. The new eyes for Gollum just don't look right being fully blue

It's ok but Rivendell was much better. Looks too small for €460. Also didn't need so many Orcs. At least the Gift with Purchase is missable

we finally have both towers

I dunno. The front looks great but the interior rooms looks pretty underwhelming for the price point and the gwp purchase looks awful. Theres some really nice touches with the colour gradients in the build but overall i cant get overly excited about it.

Now if that thing could automatically turn towards and glare at Frodo at the push of a button, our minds would be well and truly blown.

They showed in the later pictures that you can buy multiple and stack the modules. Now, rich or not, anyone who buys multiple just so you can make it taller is an idiot. BUUUUUT, I totally see myself buying the parts for the upper modules on bricklink to get an accurate height proportion.

I don’t even keep boxes usually but I’m kind of tired of the black boxes for the 18+ sets.

Not sure how i feel about gollum using skeleton arms instead of the original pieces now. They look a little stubby

I very much disagree that only people buying the tower want the nazgul bird thing. You’re right that they’d want the tower, but that doesn’t mean they’re gonna buy it.
