Thanks for the honest review. As someone who lives in reality and not just builds Lego 24/7, I’m glad you mentioned it took about 3 months and it was not a relaxing experience. I 100% expected that when I got this on sale but was astonished by how many people said they completed this in 3-4 days and how much fun they had. Still looking forward to making this moc though! Looks awesome

Thank you for your kind words. I'm not a 24/7 builder either, but LEGOs are my hobby. I'm glad you're still going to build the moc version. It's absolutely worth it once you're done.

I got this too,but not finish yet.i spend 3 hours a day, took me a week to complete about 15% ,i think it will cost me another 5 weeks.i separate them by colors ,keep them in different boxes as red ,black ,gray ,dark gary, golden, brown and yellow. That's the best way to do it i think, fun to build .

Yes. The pieces falling of while building it is very frustrating. Especially if you can't remember where it goes.

I just finished building this MOC yesterday. This is my first ever Alt Build and I'm new to lego, this is overwhelming for me. Mine is missing a Gray A shaped piece so I have to build it differently for the gold detail on the Chest but it still looks great.

It was definitely overwhelming and less relaxing for me too. ...but once completed, it is totally worth it! By the way, if you are ever missing a piece, contact LEGO and they'll send it to you for free.

It is. It's nice to use a physical copy, but I don't recommend it for this one. I started printing, then came back an hour later and was like, "What the crap?!". ...and it can get a lot bigger, but I only printed 4 pages per sheet (2 pages per side).

Usually I do, but this one took up a lot of computer space. I had to condense each session down by turning it into a timelapse and then deleting the original. :( I'm sorry.

First, the "creator" of this alt build is Ransom_Fern...and, just based on this one design, I'd have to agree, 1,000%, that he/she is 'AMAZING'. I haven't started mine, yet...but, more on that shortly. I know you said you probably wouldn't do another alt build...but, here's an idea that might help convince you to give such at least one more try. I think the 'problem' you encountered had to do with not separating the pieces into enough groups...that's why you were spending so much time trying to find pieces. Plus, you (according to what you said) separated them only by color...not by any other designation. Something that should make it easier would be to separate pieces by part types, as well as by sizes. Having a box (or box lid) filled with a wide assortment of part types & sizes, with all being the same color, makes it incredibly difficult to find the part(s) you're looking for...especially if those parts are small ones. In separating by part type & sizes, even though you'd have different colors mixed together, it'll be a LOT easier to find whichever part(s) you're looking for. Plus, having a bunch of the and parts, of different colors, makes it much easier to find the color of whatever part you're looking for. I'm not saying you'll cut your build time in half...but, you never know. As for my Hulkbuster set, I'll admit I purchased it on a whim...partly because I know it's about to be discontinued, partly because I wanted to do a super-high piece count set (even though I can't currently afford such expensive sets, thus my third reason), and partly because LEGO has it on sale for $385 (that's $165 off, for those who are "mathematically challenged"...lol). Also, in all honesty, I was going to originally build it as LEGO designed it. I was completely unaware of the negative reviews, and I knew nothing of this alt build. I only discovered the alt build because I was researching MOC & MOD Darth Vader builds. The moment I discovered this alt build, I immediately purchased the instructions (tho, I DON'T plan on printing all those pages...instead, I'll use my laptop and/or tablet & PDF, along with the Studio module). Now, I realize that, what I'm about to say is considered 'sacrilege' by some...but, before you comment, please, read what I'm about to say in it's entirety. I'm aware of the "pieces falling off" problem, which is why, for this build, I'm planning on using an adhesive to hold pieces together...but, I do NOT plan on using acetone, or any other permanent adhesive (ie. I will NOT be using anything that "melts" the pieces together). As an RCer, I frequently use something called E-6000 (similar to Shoe Goo), which is a clear-ish, rubber-like adhesive, and holds many different materials (including ABS, which is what LEGO is made from) together. It might not be as strong as CA glue, but it also doesn't damage ABS like CA glue. Also, when it comes to clear/translucent parts, CA glue is the last thing you ever want to use. Likewise, plastic model cement is horrible for clear/translucent parts, plus it's permanent. E-6000, on the other hand, is NOT permanent (it's even easier to remove than silicone adhesive), doesn't distort/destroy clear/translucent parts, and has a strong enough hold that I'm certain I shouldn't run into any problems related to pieces "falling off". As a final note, I'll only be using it on non-movable pieces...anything connections that bend, rotate, slide, etc, no adhesive will be used. It'll probably be at least a few weeks before I start the Hulkbuster build, as i first want to build the Darth Vader MOC I've been collecting pieces for.

I'm hoping you will upload a video of your build. I love to see when others integrate their own techniques in their builds. ...and I think you're right, I should give MOC building a second chance. I think I just started my first one too big with too many pieces instead of starting with something smaller.

@@TheEleventh As my channel is an RC channel, it's probably not going to have a video of this. But, maybe...just maybe...I might make an exception. Either that, or upload a video to once of my two 'secondary' channels. Truth is, I've actually been considering the possibility of adding LEGO to my primary channel...maybe renaming it "Ninth Island RC & LEGO".

@@TheEleventh Will do...or, at least, will try to remember to. Honestly, I am leaning towards renaming the channel, so the probability of a video is greatly increasing. Regarding your "I started too big" comment, I completely understand that one. When I first got back into RC approx 10 years ago (after a 35+ year absence), the second kit I chose to build was a bit more than I should have been doing. Granted, I got through it...but, probably took twice as long as it should have. That's partly why, when it comes to doing the Hulkbuster MOC, I won't be starting it until I've first done a much smaller Batmobile Tumbler MOD, followed by a slightly larger Darth Vader MOD (I hope to order the pieces needed for the Tumbler MOD, as well as for the Hulkbuster stand, either today, or tomorrow).
