_Vestal_ was seriously damaged by the explosion of _Arizona_ right next to her, but "practically annihilated" is a bit of an exaggeration. She was set afire and, though she was able to get underway following the explosion, had to be intentionally grounded to keep her from sinking. However, despite her own damage, she rendered aid to survivors trapped within the overturned wreck of _Oklahoma_ in the attack's immediate aftermath, and was back in action within a few weeks, having been repaired in place by her own crew rather than take up repair dock facilities; and served with distinction in the Pacific for the rest of the war. She was decommissioned in 1946 and scrapped in 1950. My favorite part of the _Vestal_ story during the attack is that a number of men on deck were blown overboard by the _Arizona_ explosion, including her captain, Commander Cassin Young. With the ship on fire and probably sinking, the captain missing and presumed dead, and all hell generally breaking loose, the remaining officers and crew were preparing to abandon ship when who should clamber back aboard but a very wet and annoyed Commander Young, who reportedly inquired, "Where the hell do you gentlemen think you're going?"

Awesome video sir; looking forward to that Lusitania experience. After Britannic Patroness of the Mediterranean our expectations are very very high. By the way, we are here indeed for the models but also for listening you talk and telling us things, you have the gift of storytelling, everything you say no matter how boring it might be, you make it sound interesting.

I want to see the Sultana and the LZ129 Hindenburg next. The Sultana was a paddle steamer that sank in 1865. She was heading up the Mississippi to a port in Illinois when her boiler exploded. Fire spread throughout the ship and many of her passengers had to jump into the freezing river, where they froze to death or drowned in the raging waters. Their bodies washed up in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Missouri.

I am so glad to hear the USS Vestal mentioned, albeit briefly. It is a valent ship and valent crew that served a major role in world war 2 and Pearl Harbor, with a phenomenal story to go along with it. And despite all of that, neither its name nor its story has been told or heard of many time. So I am always happy whenever it is mentioned in relation to Pearl Harbor.

Arizona resident here. University of Arizona has one of the Arizona's bells. Part of her signal mast, an anchor, a main cannon barrel and part of the superstructure are on display down at the capitol building in Phoenix. The two after turrets were removed and placed on Oahu as coastal defense batteries but scrapped. 2 barrels were installed on the USS Nevada as stated. Most of the material removed from the Arizona is stored on Ford Island, and can be requested to set up a memorial.

5:18, The Olympic didn’t pick up survivors from the U-103 sinking. She was under orders to keep her speed up as it was her best defense against further attack. The survivors were picked up later by another vessel.

The sub the Olympic ran down and sank was U-103, just like you said, fired torpedoes at the Olympic, Captain of the Olympic said "Oh, I have had it with these stupid subs!", chased it down as the U-103 started to crash drive in an attempt to turn a parallel course, but there was no time before the port propeller did a elbow drop on the u-boat's pressure hull. And to correct you at 5:16, Olympic did not stop to pick up the 35 survivors, but a distress flare was spotted by the destroyer USS Davis.

I bought both the Edmund Fitzgeald and the Britannic models from Histobrick, they look different to the first version that you built in the previous video, instead of the colored tiles on the side, the green lines and the red crosses are actually printed on the white bricks instead of using the red and green tile bricks. What's really awesome is that you would build the boilers that goes with the ship and the engines got a re-color, and the difficulty is on-point; it is difficult like the Titanic. The Edmund Fitzgerald has a maroon body, but still kept the same design, there were five printed pieces, four of them included the name and the yellow rounded 1x2 with the red star and the letter C in it. It's also built in halves instead of three pieces. The sides also features uses flat pieces to represent the railings on the side of the ship, and you can actually simulate how the ship broke in two. For those sets, I got a wooden bamboo box that keeps all of the stuff inside.

Great video as always, Tom. I'm curious as to how Parks resolved the question of Arizona's hull color. Several sources, including a Honolulu Star Bulletin article from 12/7/2006, say that it was "discovered" to be 5-S Sea Blue, not gray as previously assumed, and some survivors concur. (One said that he helped paint it the new color shortly before the attack.) Other sources say it's still inconclusive. Since you mention this as a major point on which Parks assisted HistoBrick, I wonder whether you have any more details.

To Director Lynskey and the comments section: I noticed that HMT can also stand for "Hired Military Transport." Which is preferred? I prefer HMT standing for "Hired Military Transport," as it shows that "HM" does not necessarily have to stand for "His/Her Majesty's," and no matter how much a community thinks things are set in stone, there'll always be something, in this case, a prefix, that can subvert expectations.

I hope they make SS Pendleton, an oil tanker that split in half in the middle of a storm in the 1950s. Over 30 men were trapped on her slowly sinking stern, with all but one rescued by four brave sailors in a tiny boat built for 12 (including rescue crew). Watch 2016s The Finest Hours staring Chris Pine to see this amazing story.
