LEGO Has A Mandalorian Problem…

Ойын-сауық

Since The Mandalorian TV Series was released on Disney Plus in 2019, Din Djarin and Grogu have become the face of Star Wars. That has since translated well into LEGO Star Wars, making it the most popular LEGO product nowadays. In the following years, we've got many Mandalorians like Bo Katan, Gar Saxon, Paz Viszla, Boba Fett, Sabine Wren, Paz Viszla, and more. However, there are still so many problems with printing, helmets, sets, and most importantly, the Darksaber!

Do you agree that there is a problem with LEGO Mandalorians?

There are a few points where I can agree with you on. Thens a few points where I can’t agree with you on. First off is molds I have talked people who have done 3D printing and similar printing to what Lego has been doing they have done it’s really hard to create a new mold for a specific piece and cost way to much money to make the machine just to make that mold and never use again that way we never get custom mando helmets from Lego. Second if I remember correctly that chemical reactions might break just like older brown pieces.

@AcesOxs I can't really speak to the chemical reactions of the older brown pieces. But I do know after some further research and discussion that the Economies of Scale would likely not work for all custom Mandalorian Helmets. It's just unfortunate because having custom helmets would add a nice touch of realism.

I agree with you to a certain extent but I think the problem can be at least lessened by buying custom and knock off and minifigures

The helmets I don’t think are that bad, when done right the printing on the helmets can look pretty different from each other. The armorer and Saxon I actually think was really smart and works pretty well for both

I have to be fair. As you said, it does make sense for them to make a uniform helmet for both Mandalorians with horns. It also does work very well, looking into it more afterwards, if they were to make it too large or too small then it would not be supportable from the helmet

I don’t think there’s a problem with the Mandalorian helmets all being the same, it’s been shown that Lego can make it look like a entirely different helmet just with printing, like the new Bo helmet and the paz helmet, the printing goes a long way with them, I think asking for a different helmet molds is a bit too much considering they have proven that it can be done with printing perfectly

Yes, and I know there are a lot of logistical problems behind it too. We just love complaining as LSW fans 😂

Honestly, you’re technically right, but I don’t think a lot of these issues are THAT bad… I’ll take unique helmet prints, leg and arm printing and fresh characters over custom molded helmets all day. I imagine it’s one of the other with these and being in that mindset makes it easier to accept the flaws.

You're right. I should be looking at the positives. We would've never gotten characters like Gar Saxon or Bo Katan years ago. I think The Mandalorian TV show made special characters like that possible.

Lego won't introduce a new helmet mold for every important Mando character. Each mold costs Lego money and like any company they want to stay profitable, and I don't mean this in a bad way. These custom minifig makers do awesome jobs but I guess they can't make a living with it anyway, so it's not a big deal for them as they have other jobs, but Lego has to rely on it's own product and has to pay it's employees. Sure they can do that, sure they can introduce many many new molds. But is it wise from an economy standpoint? And the Darksaber. I think it's cool we finally have a more accurate version of it. And yeah a new mold for the hilt would be cool but only for things like the emitter and the pommel, the actual grip section still needs to be round in order to fit a minifigure hand properly. A rectangular or oval shape would either be too loose if it's too small or, if it's the right size, stretch the "fingers" wich results in the minifigure hand becoming weaker. Ever left a tile in a minifigure's hand for an extended period of time? Although Lego themselves often portray minifigs with tiles in their hands they too stretch the fingers because they can't clip to them properly.

non of these are bad decisions they are sticking true to the source material and they are a multi billion company to defend them on these accuracy topics are outlandish.

@@retroknight3013 I have no insight but I'd imagine making a custom piece for a single set will drastically increase the overall production cost. As consumers we want things to be more logical like: paying more money = higher quality standard of figure... If only things were that simple lol

Very true! Economics of Scale is a very complex topic, but I too would imagine that a custom mould for a single fig would drastically increase production costs.

I've been complaining about the modern Mandalorian helmet visor prints since 2010 with the new style Boba Fett, where the Visor curves up on the sides. It works fine for Clone Wars style, but doesn't look right on Janog and Boba or Mando. It's amazing to me that they've only now fixed the style popularized by Death Watch in 2011 Mandalorian Battle Pack

I think they've pretty much perfected the current style, as you said, popularized by Death Watch in 2011. Therefore, It would be nice to get a new print.
