Lego Dreamzzz season 2 is... good?

Good NOT great
Also am I like the first person to talk about this, this season has been out for a week and I've seen no one even mention that new dreamzzz episodes came.

a few thoughts of this season: 1: The Night Hunters motivations are all over the place 2: Zoey knew the rules and broke them anyway, in that specific circumstance Royce is not in the wrong 3: Cooper and Izzy didn't open their jars when they first got them, the memory would have followed them 4 almost every other season was split into 2 parts of 10 episodes: Chima and Nexo Knights

I like both seasons but season 2 was way better and more interesting especially the Star Wars reference with Zoey’s dad being the night hunter Also considering that Mateo has feelings for Zoey that twist might play a major role if they get together in part 2 of the season (I still think they should’ve waited to release all the episodes I mean now I have to wait 3 months for 10 more episodes)

Here's my opinion on the entire LEGO Dreamzzz show so far. I guess I will also comment on some of the points brought forth in this video while I'm at it. I would have to rewatch season 1 to give an informed opinion which I won't do for a youtube comment since that would be a 7 hour investment, but going off memory alone, I think it was decent, but that is probably because I have done the unthinkable for a generic critic: I gave the show the benfit of the doubt. The weakest part of any show will always be the beginning and the end, because the beginning carries the burden of making a good first impression and establishing the entire world and the end carries the burden of having to satisfy all of the fans and conclude the story in a satisfying way. Because of it, it's really dishonest to nitpick those 2 parts of any story because you'll be hard pressed to find any show that does both of them well. ATLA is the perfect example, it's considered to be one of the greatest modern-ish shows, and while it did nail the introductory scene of every main character, the beginning few episodes were rough regardless, and you can argue that the finale had 2 dei ex machina (yes that's the plural form, and to be fair, one of them is fully excusable and the other one isn't the absolute worst deus ex machina in the history of dei ex machina so imo it gets a pass). Obviously I am not saying to just not criticize these parts of stories, just that you should be considerate. This is why I judge season 1 mainly by how good of a job it did on establishing the world, and as I said before, I think it did a decent one. The Nightmare King was a great antagonist imo. Everyone treats motivation like it's the make or break aspect of any villain, but guess what, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish proved everyone wrong. All an antagonist has to do is pose a serious threat to the protagonists and not be an utter shell of a character. The nightmare king has an interesting backstory and offers a serious threat to the protagonists, so he's a good antagonist in my eyes. Season 2 on the other hand? I consider it to be average. If the nightmare king is an example of a villain that works despite lacking a complex motivation, the never witch in part 1 is an example of a villain that doesn't work despite having a good motivation. She just isn't shown to be a threat until the part 1 finale. The show just tells you "Oh, the never witch? Oh yeah she's a dangerous ticking time bomb just wait until she makes her move!" but makes no effort of showing that in any way. In season 1, we were shown the effects the nightmare king had on the waking world constantly: People being put into enchanted sleep/coma, the insomnia club, it's the stuff you don't notice but your subconscious does, that's literally the definition of "Show don't tell". The never witch keeps stealing memories, the only person shown to be affected long term by this is Cooper who lost his tech skills. The Never Witch stole the entirety of the Murky Realm including Sandman, we're told "Oh yeah that's defenitely a problem that's problematic!". but the show never expands on it further as it focuses its run time on the REM competition and the character drama. She is just straight up less of a threat than the nightmare king, because sure she's causing problems in the dream world, but that isn't leaking into the waking world at all until the finale, and even then, the question of how the capture of the castle and every dreamer within it will affect the story is left unanswred. Are they all trapped in the dream world the same way the nightmare king trapped dreamers now? Will they just be tortured every night by the Never Witch or something while they get to live their waking lives as if nothing happened? We don't know. Her being immune to the watch is perhaps the only thing that tells you she's more dangerous than she appears before the finale, but that's about it. Season 2 in general has that problem of telling rather than showing. There are also some smaller stuff I disliked immensly, like evil Mateo, because it's just Ninjago's "Double trouble" but worse. The evil ninja at least tried to cover their visual differences by wearing sunglasses, and even that didn't fool Wu for long. Here we have evil Mateo who whose difference isn't just pale skin and red eyes but his color palette being changed to "evil colors" and his own sister doesn't notice anything off until he blasts her to win a REM challenge. That shit broke the immersion for me. I also disliked how they just brushed off Sneak becoming a part of the waking world now besides one line, considering the ruccus Cella caused over a slimy tic tac the season before. The pacing was off as well for me. The feeling that these characters are living 2 different lives is gone now, the high school aspect is just ignored, and the entire trajectory felt linear and stale. But all in all, the only reason I consider this season as average is because all this bad stuff is balanced out by the character drama and development. I especially enjoyed the flashback episode since it did so much to flesh out the characters and the lore in general.

I hope it lasts a good amount of time like Ninjago I mean it’s so interesting and realistic One of the main things I like is how much time they take to develop the characters and their relationships For example with Mateo x Zoey Season 1 part 1: we easily see Mateo has an interest in her Season 1 part 2: we get confirmation that he does because of him trying to ask her out but cancels at the last second because of his fear of being rejected Season 2 part 1: although we don’t see much chemistry with Mateo towards Zoey (probably because of the “pal’s before gals saying”) although it seems as if Zoey is starting to like him more As for ninjago with Nya x Jay There was only 1 episode then they were just instantly together

I was gonna write my opinion on the Dreamzzz here, but I think it's best if I make that into a separate comment since what was meant to be a detour about the "I guess the state of the LEGO community" became enough for a comment of its own. This part will be highly critical towards you both directly and indirectly, so please don't take any of this as a personal attack or anything. I'm just leaving honest feedback and opinion here. Also, long comment warning I suppose. 7:12 "What the heck! This show isn't supposed to be good, what happened?" Anyone who approaches any kind of media with this kind of attitude honestly shouldn't be giving their opinion on it at all. This is precisely why A) Every LEGO show after Ninjago failed and B) LEGO needs to end ninjago for the sake of both ninjago itself and any future show if they want any of them to succeed (And I'm saying this as a ninjago fan mind you). The majority of Ninjago's veteran audience is in their what, early to mid 20's now? I'd consider this to be the core of the LEGO community, as it houses people that both have an independent income and are most likely to be unburdened by expenses like maintaining a family to be able to buy their expensive model sets and it houses the majority of LEGO content creators as well. All of you have significant influence over what LEGO does since you speak both with your wallets and videos to them. And ever since Ninjago was "cancelled" all the way back in 2012 and "replaced" by Chima (which isn't correct btw, ninjago was always going to end after season 2 and then be succeeded by Chima, the plan seemed to be pumping out such short 2 season stories until the sun explodes before ninjago got all successful), it just seems like this veteran community became bitter towards any following LEGO show fearing it will replace their precious ninjago and subsequently nitpick, bully and boycott the shit out of them, basically holding them up to Ninjago's standard which was built over a decade, until they get cancelled, because you directly have this kind of influence over LEGO. Now, am I trying to say that LEGO wasn't trying to craft a second golden goose especially after ninjago was rebooted and chima later cancelled? No, that's defenitely what they wanted to do. But that alone is no reason to write off those shows, especially since LEGO actually seems to try to create a good second show instead of a second successful product (compared to other corporations in the business at least, must be those European genes, and on that note I should probably mention this: I know that these shows are meant to be glorified toy commercials and thus should also be judged by that angle, but I don't consider myself in the position to judge these shows in that aspect so I just look at the show itself). These shows should be given a fair shot rather than bullied off the face of the earth for just existing in the same room as Ninjago. But perhaps that will only change when ninjago ends, but that probably won't happen until 2029 at the very earliest (depends on how long DR will go on for, I do think LEGO plans on ending the show though, why else would they suddenly order multiple ninjago seasons in form of a serialized show, which implies a clear end date?)

I do agree with you here. I went into dreamz last year hoping to like it but then after it finished I decided that it really wasn't great, so I went into season 2 with very low expectations. I do also like shows like Chima and Nexo Knights more than other people. And yes I do love Ninjago I can see that Lego is kind of hiding behind it and when ever they think of a new concept most of the time they make it a Ninjago season (Prime Empire, Master of the Mountain and Sea Bound) and don't want to make new themes because their scared their fail horribly, even Monkie Kid isn't 100% an original concept.

He really should’ve said that I like how that was revealed to us and I’m interested to see what might happen considering that Mateo and Zoey will most likely be together in the next part of the season I just hope they don’t continue too much of the Star Wars references because honestly I’m afraid that they might make them end up having the same mother like Leia and Luke only reversed I mean think about it Mateo and Zoey both have fathers but they don’t have mothers so what if Hannah was leading some sort of double life but who knows anything could happen
