Honestly Ryan I care very deeply about lego I’ve been collecting sets ever since 2010 but this is just getting ridiculous with the UCS gunship!! That build is amazing, but the rest like you say is just getting so awful and out of hand. I have the gunship and I’m probably gonna keep it sealed just cause if the misprint. Keep going Ryan! I love your videos!! May the gunship gang be with you always!

I've been thinking on why the figure count is low and I think it has to do with it being a ship. Lego hasn't made a ucs ship with more than two figs unless you count the house payment falcon.

The republic gunship also doubles as a prequel trilogy A wing because fans only remember the red and white colours and it comes with Lando Calrisian and a mortar trooper

I'm never gonna forget that one thing Ryan said in one of his videos "things that make sense and lego don't go together at all"

A while back, a ton of people signed a petition for Hasbro to make a Vintage Collection General Merrick's X-Wing and figure from Rogue One. Guess what? About a year later, they delivered and gave fans exactly what they wanted. Plus, it was a super obscure thing from one of the smaller Star Wars movies. Just really shows the difference between a company who cares about their fans and one that doesn't

Their refusal to stop making tons of coveted figures exclusive, and the fact that every one of their pre-orders sells out in minutes is very frustrating and a huge flaw, but at least they do stuff like the fan first livestreams, and will sometimes take fan feedback, as in the case of the x-wing. Lego doesn't do any of this, and gets simple stuff wrong, like calling the gunship an original trilogy set

Hasbro really care all right. I especially like how they cared about Kir Kanos… Or was it Carnor Jax, they’re still not sure? Or how they released a Luke Skwalker figure. Or how their HasLab projects are limited to exactly 3 countries in the world. Or how their 3.75’’ figures still have disastrous QC issues in 2021. Or how they put Nerfs into ships a few years back. Oh and that Blue Leader X-Wing? A repaint of a 2011, tired, overused and undersized design that they’re charging 105USD for. So much care. They care so much that I’m done with them. 😝 There are problems with Lego’s SW line, no doubt. But propping up Hasbro as an example of a toy company that cares about the fans is just a sick joke or being grossly misinformed.

The mace windu also doubles as every Jedi because the fans only remember the bath robe that he wears

I like to imagine that LEGO sits down and thinks “How can we piss off the fans with our next product?”

The cantina can make a great setting for a Tatooine display, and the minifigures are great for pretty much any Star Wars scenery. I would love to get the gunship, but the cantina is my current top priority for display.

The set doubles as a new color scheme of the Luke’s landspeeder, stay tuned for more colors of the landspeeder in 2022.

With every new issue I get worried that they’ll interpret the criticism as an excuse to stop making prequel UCS sets. But that alone says enough about the situation; we shouldn’t be afraid to criticize or call out a simple mistake. Like you said, it just feels like they don’t care

Companies like Lego don't get to where they are by giving up when things get difficult. I'd hope they'll be looking at the next UCS set now and making damn sure it's as good as they can make it. It would do much for Lego right now if they were upfront about the problems with this set though and showed that they're not above learning from their mistakes.

My issue with LEGO is all these mistakes are sooo damn easy to catch before releasing to the public. It just shows a complete lack of giving a damn.

I hope people realize that this conflict between lego and the community means that we may never get another Prequel UCS set again. Not saying lego doesn’t deserve it, they’re a being a bunch of hacks right now, but why would a company try to please fans who always see their flaws when they obviously are too lazy to fix it? I hope this isn’t the case tho, because I love ROTS and I’d love to see a UCS of like Mustafar or whatever. It took 10 years to get a prequel set; I don’t think that conflict will lower the time to get another.

Welp, that just means I won’t be getting any more UCS sets, vote with your wallet people. It sucks but what you said is probably true, which is all at fault of lego, we would’ve enjoyed this like any other set if they didn’t mess it up

I talked to Hans B. Schlöhmer last year, he is a very nice person, very kind too. That‘s what bothers me. He is such a cool dude that this statement (the OT one) was as unexpected as it could be. Really did not see something as low as that coming from him…. Edit: I just realized they also deleted the part of Hans talking about the fans „just recognizing a yellow clone trooper“ from the Original interview. That whole part seems to be just cut out. So Lego DOES listen to their Fans! And then deletes all the evidence… :D

You actually raise a really interesting point- a lot of these designers are probably the generation that grew up with the originals and have little to no connection to the prequels. They seem to have a “good enough” attitude with this set, which is so contrary to the OT sets

It’s honestly so bad what has happened to what could have been one of the best UCS sets ever

Those imperial gunships had some dang good cloaking in the OT

I want to think that the designers are just reading off scripts. I really hope it’s the company and not them. They all seem (seemed) really cool. *Sadness*

I think clone wars is the best thing that could happen to SW franchise. If Feloni and Favroe be in the driving seat-SW franchise is saved. Fingers crossed, 2022 will be full of new content thus more LEGO set opportunities:)

Dang you can really see the pain and frustration in Ryan’s eyes in the final moments of this video. I agree… Lego and the community need to exchange dialogue to end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy.

The prequels r better for LEGO sets to me, they seem to have more recognizable unique characters to make figures of, and more color. Everything in the original is gray. Clone army is very colorful and cool

That is more of a fault of the production values of their respective eras. For all the problems the prequels had, they had a lot more to work with given the advances in CGI technology, they could make things a lot more detailed at a much smaller cost. I'll always have a particular love for the more minimalistic, almost retro style of the OT vehicle and set designs.

@@tentacledood5784 the OT is pretty minimalistic, I actually prefer old school LEGO methods where the tie fighters are blue. They r less accurate but add some much needed color and pop to the sets. Also a bit of nostalgia given the LEGO games used those designs.

I wonder why there're always people defending lego, saying opinions such as yours are too toxic, and thinking of themselves as the 'peaceful ones' and the 'good side of the community.' I can feel your frustration and you are absolutely right. How can a company constantly punish the fans with ignorance and still get annual sales increased in 2020 with Star Wars. Because we "feed" this company even if they forgot my they are so big now. But I'm done with Lego otherwise they continue as before, if we accept everything and hope next year everything will be better.... NO, the Gunship has shown that. Take a look at the 75252 UCS Star Destroyer. That was the colorful plague and so annoying while building. And that is now also with the helmets 75274, Step 22 on Page 18... Without words... "Easier to build they say"...for an 18+ set. They literally laugh in my face when they pull the 70€ out of my pocket for an 18+ set. No - that was the last time. Or let's take the topic with the decals/stickers. With a UCS set I have to apply and possibly stick them offset (replacements are not included in a 200+€... of course. 'cause stickers are more expensive than gold) but somehow with a 6+ Set for kids all decorated parts are printed. I don't even want to start with other topics. I think I wrote enough. I will get more SW MOCs for myself in the future and give the money to the designers who are real fans themselves and build great sets! No pretend fans who do not even know which parts belong to the original trilogy. Probably they think Rouge One and A Solo Story also belong to the original trilogy right next to Attack of the Clones. Nice video btw. emotional and with so much truth. Thumbs up!

I feel the exact same way about Lego DC. Personally I have always loved Batman but Lego just doesn’t care about DC in general when you could be making great sets every year but instead you make 2 Batman sets and call that a DC “wave”. I want more sets with Wonder Woman, Superman and the Flash and Lego just isn’t providing. I know they sort of did in 2019 but now those sets are retired and I don’t want to pay the extra money. But in general I am a minifig guy over a set guy.

I completely understand what you're mad about, things like calling the gunship a original trilogy set and not getting minifigures that YOU voted for can be disheartening coming from a company that you've grown up with. I'm not a huge lego fan but I own a couple of sets and this whole situation makes me not want to buy from them until they care about us and what we want

I've been in the same boat, but for a completely different reason. My boat had set sail a while ago and I still have to do that job for a chapter of the national honor society of the BSA organization because no one steps up to base. Most of my family knows that pain, parents did scouting events for roughly 13 years. Only a few and far between would volunteer for it, and that was very rare.

The designers were probably like: Well if it isn't Clone Wars then it must be Original Trilogy

That’s discriminatory against clones. That clone would have had different training than a pilot. Lego should be ashamed of themselves

I always have appreciated how real Ryan is, he has never shilled out for Lego (like others have). I too am tired of lego, there’s a reason I don’t buy many sets anymore. We haven’t really seen any good ones in years it feels like for me. Idk lego is really annoying at this point, make good sets again lego

@@benrogers4079 I am glad there are no sequel trilogy sets, you are right about that. As to your other point, Lego can produce sets for the Disney shows and still produce their most desired and valuable era, Episode 3. Go check the price of ANY modern EP3 clone troopers or the ARC-170, or any other sets from EP3.....those prices are because of high demand and a VERY low supply.

Very well said about Lego Group caring more about the happiness of their shareholders rather than the true fans, the main driving force behind their success as a toy company. Sad times indeed.

Since you first did videos on the lego ideas vote I was looking forward to buying the ucs gunship as my first big set. Then after all of this pain and annoyance I haven't bought it and might not. Seeing how this company treats its fans, especially fans of the line that saved their company from bankruptcy, it just feels like I shouldn't be giving them 300 dollars of my money, even though I know me not buying it wont change anything in the future. Honestly I thank you for being open and honest, and being willing to speak your mind.

I wouldn’t blame it on the Lego designer he’s probably reading from a script that the Lego company told him to say even if he knows it’s wrong they are the boss. Hate on logo but not the designer.

I really like that you don’t just point out the bad side and incorrect things about the group, but you give a solution. Well I mean the best solution currently.

I wonder if the UCS gunship situation will drive people away from being Lego purist and into the arms of competitors, I don't know if it will but I certainly can see it driving some people away. As far as the interview goes, I really think the designer was forced to read from a script that was probably written and approved by one of the higher ups. I'm not excusing the situation, but I don't really think that it was his mess up. We will never know who wrote it but it's a possibility and I hope that designer doesn't get any undue hate. Everything the design crew does from the actual build to the minifigure selection needs to be approved by a higher up and can be overwritten and I really think that is what has happened here with the clone commander and with the burnt Obi Wan mini, I just hope that people are keeping that in mind while they light their torches and dig out their pitchforks.

I really disagree that there’s a script. Nobody has ever mentioned a script before and it’s supposed to be the designers personal experience with the set, someone else can’t wrote that for them. Just my $0.02

@@MandRproductions There might not be a formal script, but I would bet quite a bit that someone at some point had a meeting with him about what he was going to say. Lego is a corporate entity and I've never heard of any large company that would let an employee go into an interview without an understanding of what that person was expected to say. I'll admit I might be wrong but it would shock me if that was him just talking off the cuff about the set, but who knows for sure. We weren't in the room during the interview and I doubt lego would release the uncut footage for any reason at all

@@tylershort9626 I agree that it's unlikely Lego would let someone talk completely unscripted or without any reservation. At the very least they would have to make sure the video isn't full of proprietary information, profanity, or something that doesn't represent the company

Bro it all makes sense now. They put the imperial logo on the box because it’s an original trilogy set. Now I remember the empire using the gunship during the battle of Hoth with that yellow guy flying it🤯

This could’ve been a good wave made into a great wave. Instead they got lazy/ignored so much. Printed on backpacks, no waste capes, ignored request of minifigures for the UCS Gunship, didn’t make Boba Fett have the right green when they made a whole new torso and green for him, didn’t drill a hole on, at least, Crossshair’s helmet, making a new mold for the armorer, not making cloths for the Armorer, etc. Some of the easiest things to do and they came short on all. Literally ruined it themselves.

I have been watching your channel for about 6 years and I have seen how you have changed from really hyped to slowly declining sadness about lego and it’s sad to see.

Really this just comes down to prep work prior to recording the interview. Lego should have a PR person providing background information along with possible questions that could come up in a Q&A (assuming this was a live interview) to the designers. If this was prerecorded then the questions are all known ahead of time so factual details such as what you note shouldn’t occur. But you can’t blame the designers. Designers are creatives; their focus isn’t on messaging. They focus on design. It’s a larger issue with Lego marketing/PR not prepping their on-camera spokespeople with the right information. The Star Wars fan base is/can be brutal when it comes to details, so you can forgive missteps on ridiculously granular information. But knowing what series of movies a major ship design came from is important and is something the Lego PR team should have in their press materials and in their prep information provided to their spokespeople. Also, it’s hard to know what else was going on in the designer’s day when this interview took place. Maybe he had already been on 15 conference calls, 6 meetings, and had to present to management all the designs for the next calendar year the next day. In other words, this interview, based on a design that was previously finalized and is in his rear view mirror in terms of daily business relevance, may have been low on his priority list, which could easily lead to a mistake. Thanks for making these videos, Ryan. I enjoy your content and find it entertaining and interesting. You’re well-spoken and concise and you are careful to note in you comments this is a Lego issue and not the interviewee’s problem. That’s perceptive and illustrative of your ability to see the larger picture. Keep up the outstanding work!

I wonder if you are lumping the whole Lego corporation together and blaming the whole company as a single ‘entity’? In my experience Marketing and PR departments are often way out of step with operations, design and the creative parts of an organisation. Don’t get me wrong, there is some great marketing out there, but it’s the minority. I have seen and experienced it so many times in my work where the marketing don’t get it, and have little connection with the product and teams behind those products. Often causing the the development departments to rip out their hair as they can see how damaging and disrespectful it is to the consumers and the R&D departments. Marketing can often write the scripts and the required phrases for designers to say in interviews and press videos. I have had ‘media training’ in my work, and you are channelled it repeating phrases and statements cooked up by the marketing team even if they are wrong. The designer can only resist so much but ultimately has no choice as they work for the company. This stinks of the same mistake. I can imagine the Lego designer behind the gunship was furious when he was let down by the mini-fig choice imposed on him by the accounts department and to throw oil on the fire, then forced to justify it by the marketing team’s scripts. It would not surprise me if he went through the roof at Lego and Perhaps that’s the angle here?

Feel like it shouldn’t have been a UCS set, just do a redesign for £100-120 with a good selection of mini figures. Would’ve been much better received

No, no, it won a vote for next UCS set, so it definitely should be a UCS set.

I was trying to find this interview, but I couldn't find it. Now I know why.

It hurts even more that in that A-wing designer video they talk about how red and white as colour seen commonly in the prequels, and i guarantee that they had the gunship in mind when they said that.

It kinda feels like they’re going out of their way to not care about the gunship

The Original Trilogy thingy doesn´t matter a lot imo, but the "Commander Pilot", that´s ://
