LEGO City Update! Jazz Club Placed, Skyscrapers, Town Square

Ойын-сауық

I start this LEGO city update by placing the double Jazz Club modular building. In order to do that some changes had to be made to the Town Hall block - the town square was reduced in size and rebuilt, freeing up space for the Jazz Club. After rebuilding that I moved on to operation SKYSCRAPER! The framework for 2 skyscrapers has been put together and now I am considering adding some elevation to the LEGO city!

It’s just like a real city! Buildings changing, roads getting worked on, adding new buildings and demolishing others. And then trying to squeeze in future LEGO sets in the process. Anyway thanks for always keeping us entertained, and it’s great watching the twins grow up too! I live in Orlando and I need to grab the new Disney Castle soon.

elevation change in the city wouldn't be hard to accomplish, just a very large amount of parts, which isn't much of a problem for you. Just change the road plates to be brick build and do 2 separate one way lines with a boulevard design in the center separating the lanes with foliage. The will also allow one lane to remain flat on the un elevated block while allowing for the other lane to increase and decrease in elevation by hiding the elevation change with a large landscaped planter between the 2 lanes.

Adding elevation variance would look awesome! The way I'm imagining it though would involve rebuilding the bottom floor of almost every building so e.g. the back door would be lower than the streetside door to account for slope, which would likely lock the layout mostly in place because every MILS plate would have a unique and contextual edge elevation profile.

I saw someone say this about the sky scrapers. I love the idea of putting business and things on the first floor. Stores/shopping, resturants, markets, things like that. Maybe a pharmacy, deli, liquor store, apple store, things like that. Cinnabon, who knows?

I think the idea of a skyscraper made using both the white and black flooring sections is excellent, looks great, very modern and similar to some of the buildings I see going up currently. I also go along with the previous comment, have some retail at the base (corner of Yonge and Bloor for example, given Toronto though!), coffee shop, convenience store, news agents , clothing (shirts/tops) store maybe. Would reflect the layout of a lot of skyscrapers.

I think some small elevation would be cool. Gove some more variety for road scenes. If you raise them enough in mils format, you could save some money or parts and use duplo blocks. Also, having parts of the buildings above the road level could be a neat design. Have a building a few blocks above the base road level, and the road ramps up between a brick built retaining wall, maybe with a ramping up sidewalk.

Elevation changes within the flat city? BOLD... I love it! It's extremely ambitious, but it will push your LEGO abilities to new heights! ;) As part of a trial run, I wonder if there would be a smaller area in the city that you could elevate? Maybe the haunted house or the strip next to your standing hole? It would expose that area for better visibility, and one of the elevated edges could cut off right by the standing hole, saving your from having to build up that flat side with so much extra brick.

I like the idea of the smooth white alternating with the textured black. Food for thought, around here (mountainous area) we often have a building that's up high, but the sidewalk and road are lower down. There's a retaining wall and then a ramped secondary sidewalk that goes up to the building. I'm not saying so that with the entire block, but maybe one side of it?

I don't think you need to elevate the road too. In a lot of business district you have elevated buildings that have stairs that lead to road level. It would even allow you to make little statues or perks on the corners (on top, but if you do it at road level you can make something with a backdrop like the Prometheus Fountain in New York) and even a bridge to the other side. What about a bridge that leads into another building. It'll also mean you have a wall you can do some cool pattern on, built-in art or information plaques. Maybe even an entrance for a subway. I think, not elevating the road will 'force' you to come up with more creative things and you don't have to rebuild the road or the whole other side.

Lego does make those road plates in the same blue color as the bike lanes. I believe there was at least one in those city wildlife sets (with elephants and lions) if you have that. Hey there, I have an idea for your elevation & buildings integration. I used to live in the midwest and they have basements, I'm talking, very deep basements that are more like foundation. Some of these can be found around hilly areas like San Fransisco too probably. Just build "cement" basements/foundations that are in the hill with the modular building on it? I's hard to explain without pictures. Maybe you can Google buildings in San Fransisco or Midwest (Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, etc) for ideas based on this. You can also build skyscrapers that might have ben damaged in an earthquake or something too?

Bricksie, have you looked at the lego set 41705, Heartlake City Pizzeria??? Why I ask? Jazz Club it's pizza place, think you can use one, there? Maybe adding a floor, to that pizza place? As for you crosswalk, use a strip of stone-work. But bicycle lanes are normally on both sides of the road, unless it's so wide, you can go both direction and then you are looking at 1/2 a road wide in terms of wide. Skyscraper, the white, black, white, looks very good. Are you going to use the stone ones for the lower section? Because then you have a classic style lower part and a modern upper part, which would look quite good. Say, how familiar are you with the cartoon Disney made in the 90's, called Gargoyles? It had a castle on-top of a skyscraper. Say Bricksie, what if you could add the Diner to the right side of the Bowling Alley? I think it could actually look very good, if you can turn them into one (bigger) building. Location might then be a problem, though, longer then two baseplates. Be it would add a nice side-wall to the Bowling Alley, while also letting you lay the basis to add in a extra floor to the building. Give it your own twist, to both buildings, by making them one. Helps you counter the similar style problem, both buildings have.
