The DS version take is a hot one. Yes limited but has unique level design and puzzles plus extra abilities for characters and some unique suits for Batman and Robin. It has a ton more characters and is still a great game. It was my intro to Lego Batman and I've 100% the game. It has some unique mini game modes as well

I always loved being able to play as the villains in this game, it added so much more depth to the game.

Both Lego Batman and Lego Star Wars are the best Lego games. Change my mind.

Just finished the game for the first time since elementary school as a means to distress from college, huge flow of nostalgia

Lego Batman came free with my Xbox 360 and my friend and I played it on coop and we were so impressed. I've played so many Lego games since but there's something magical about Lego Batman, lots of love from the devs went into this.

for real, this is one of the best games I've ever played in my entire life. I've completed it 100% several times and I will not hesitate to do it again.

Shoutout ds version firefly it’s sad the yellow look hasn’t stuck w other media besides games that’s my favourite version of him

each heroes chapter is also slightly based off of the batman films from the 80s and 90s. especially with the ending levels. jokers took place in the cathedral, such like the climax in batman (1989) penguins being in artic world with the penguins. (tim burton batman 2? and riddlers being the one with im carey as riddler

went back in time and completed lego batman 100%

This is my favorite LEGO game of all time, and will likely always be.

As a kid seeing the campaign literally double in length as I beat the game was a happy surprise on par with mario 3d land’s post game surprise.

This is one of my favorite game trilogy’s!

One interesting thing about the DS version is the Villain Hunt mini-game where you could unlock bonus villains that weren't in the main console versions. Although Black Mask could be built in the main console versions once you reach 100% completion.

What you said is true, this game was my first introduction to Batman, had this game since I was 6-7 and honestly I'm so glad I played the game, it's a good way to introduce the complex story of the dark knight to a young child until they are older and can read the more darker stories and playing more complex games.

Have these 3 all on my Wii.

This one would be at the top of my list. I played it on PS2 back in the day. Then 5 years later I upgraded to the PS3 version. The graphics looked phenomenal in high definition. The Batmobile level was my favorite. Then in 2017 I got that Batmobile set brand new. Thanks for posting this video. I enjoyed it.

The one thing I’d say ds has over the console version, is it’s character roster, it’s got a lot more characters in general and a lot more of them flesh out Batman’s rogues gallery compared to what we got on console. Also it has less random characters like the fisherman and stuff like that.

Got the most atmosphere of any game for some reason. Literally no representation of Gotham is as good as lego batman 1.

I remember on october 2021 I started getting into this game again and watching videos about it, it was a really great time for me tbh.

As someone who replayed this game on my Xbox Series X about a month and a half ago, I can confirm that it was a masterpiece. Also the OST inspired me to watch the 1989 Batman movie. Have yet to see the rest of the tetralogy. Need to do that soon.

The DS version was the first one I played and is always the one I remember most, especially with all those additional characters. I did play the normal version not long after but for some reason my nostalgia is all for the DS lmao. Great video by the way.

I remember going to my grandmas house on the wii playing Lego batman. And now as a 12 year old I find my nostalgia playing the game again once more

I used to own the PSP version. I remember ejecting the UMD causing me to be able to walk through walls to skip levels.

My very first game I ever played. Still got the original CD of it. Aaah.. simpler times.

This game will always have a special spot for me, it's the game that introduced me to DC and Batman as a whole and what made me a fan of the franchise. I never knew the Robin in this game is Tim Drake though, wish it was Jason instead.

What did you think of the sequels? I personally liked the second entry better due to the fact that it was the first Lego game where you could fully fly.

Don’t listen to him ds lego batman is so amazing especially now with emulators the jank is much less but the jank gives it character, the puzzles are still very fun and the horror movie atmosphere is amplified as it’s so eerie and unnatural. The locations and world is almost akin to the liminal space and dreamcore vibes. It has way more playable characters with unique weapons and a few are kind of obscure. Some of the standouts are azrael, firefly, black mask and the ventriloquist. These characters are unlocked by a speedrun hide and seek vibe game mode that is a very good inclusion. There are added hero levels where you fight scarecrow and bane which are stand out bossfights, and a villain version of the ace chemicals level which is a very eerie one. Plus in the bank heist villain level u have 3 playable characters which is very unique. U do lose the fun of the cutscenes and it is missing the killer moth story missions (he is still a playable character and has an alternate skin don’t worry) and you lose sadly one of my favourite console missions the waynetech heist level. The great thing is tho both versions of the game exist and u can enjoy them equally in different ways. Plus there’s also a bonus freeze suit for batman and robin, (the vehicle levels suck so bad I can’t deny that tho) and man if ur reading this I totally get u being put off by the first level but I highly suggest trying a few more or even just using cheats to unlock the characters and see the unique ones and their abilities

I recently 100% the game again it was a blast now 2 more games to go

man i remember really wanting this game back in the day as a kid, never got it cuz at the time I didn't own a console or powerful enough PC. Buuuuuuut its backwards compatible on Xbox and on sale for $5 at the time of writing this

I have played both 100% but lego batman 2 was really boring. I give lego batman 1 10/10 but lego batman 2 only 5/10. Bad map design, really Boring. Open world map is trash. Same gold brick grind over and over again.

The LEGO games in general are classics. Silly interpretations of the source material brought to young audiences, with easily digestible game mechanics allowing for a fun time. Maybe I should go back to The Skywalker Saga.

I really like this video but I don't really agree with a majority of it. I hated the game upon replaying it to 100% recently (I loved it as a kid) I'll start off with some important notes: I didn't watch any of the Batman Movies or really consume any batman media, I also skipped pretty much all the cutscenes. I played Lego Indiana Jones 1 and 2 to 100% before playing Lego Batman and watched all 4 Indiana Jones movies prior to playing their respective chapters within the games. When playing Lego Batman I had already 100% 2 Lego Games without much meaningful use of guides (artifacts I could've found by using the detector extra, minor bug made me think the intended way didn't work causing confusion). So I am playing through LB and for the most part the story is fine, I liked it and regret skipping those cutscenes despite them being long now that I've seen how fun they can be. What I disliked is how freeplay mode felt like story mode because of how many things were unskippable, at least without bugs that I haven't heard of like super jumps or clipping or out of bounds etc Not only that but a LOT of minikits seemed to have illogical methods of obtaining / too precise (ex. that one where you need to drive the ice cream truck onto a circle but it can't just be anywhere fully inside it, sliding down the ice into the penguin's lair trying to get between the flag poles). I found myself looking up a guide nearly every level for freeplay which caused frustration which = less patience to figure it out without just looking it up. I also disliked the infinite enemies and how they cancel building, too few minikits obtainable (without bugs) in story compared to Lego Indiana Jones (though it seems like Lego Indiana Jones may be the 1 game where you can get an average of 5+ per level in story without bugs). The backflip thing. I can't count how many times I've bent back flipped to my death when I wanted to change my direction while jumping. I disliked the red bricks as for the heroes a lot of them were extremely useful suit upgrades such as faster magnet walk or faster suction for Robin, which are amazing power ups, it's just walking on metal or sucking up little legos shouldn't be so sluggish to begin with for those power ups to be so amazing. I thought that maybe some of the minikits were movie references but if they aren't then holy cow. I got 2 minikits accidentally by doing their convoluted requirement and couldn't explain how to get them. It's also too easy to cap out on studs in my opinion, I get that you need 4 billion to get 100% so it can't be a super long process, but having an infinite stream of studs multiplied by x38,400 is a bit much. less than a minute after getting the x2 x4 x6 and character studs extras I went from near 1M studs to over 10M, then I get more multipliers and hit 4B shortly after. Those 2 points don't make the game bad, It's just a bias and a personal complaint. Certain things also didn't work properly in Wayne Manor making it harder to get all 1M studs & I got soft locked in it due to the lever malfunctioning which seems to happen a few times in levels with levers (maybe not softlock in those cases). Hostage was weird, didn't spawn / register in 1 level that I definitely got it in so I had to go on an egg hunt for it again. I don't want to hate the game but I do, and I'm really glad to see you enjoy it, I'm certain that loving the movies made the game more exciting for you the way watching Indiana Jones made me love Lego Indiana Jones. Lego Batman 2 took all but 1 of my issues and fixed them, freeplay made up for the 1 unfixed issues (minikits obtainable in story) by the levels being way more freeplay friendly. I mainly posted my review here to see where I was objectively wrong, maybe I was unlucky or maybe bad design frustrated me to give up on decent / good design. I'm down to discuss what I liked about the game in replies

Yeah. I believe TT Games had access and permission to use the full score from 1989 and Batman Returns. Listening to a couple of tracks from the expanded '89 score has helped me think about stuff like "Oh wow this could have been used here instead of this track being used for the 4th time! It would have been perfect!". I believe there is only a tad bit of the expanded score used in LB1. It's mostly the full Batwing theme. Not much else. No Batman Returns music LB1 except for on the DS with the Red Triangle Circus Gang stuff. There is music from Batman Returns used in LB2. Most notably and memorably in the Ace Chemicals level
