Thank you, I´m glad you like it. I think the modified 60337 looks way better with the black front and without doors. I also changed the windscreen but that you will see in my video about it. At the moment I´m working on a deluxe version of the train with custom stickers or maybe printed parts. The digital modell just looks awesome... ;-)

That’s devotion to the cause! Probably the only video focused on Lego level crossings! I had the 12v system with remote controlled points, etc, when I was a boy. It was great fun to build tracks and trains and your video reminded me of that happy time.

Thank you for your comment. I actually took a lot of time for the research and for the digital construction of the level crossings. It was important for me to have a complete listing of all level crossings in one video. Even though this video has fewer views than most of my other videos, this video is what I'm most proud of. It took me a lot of work, but it turned out really well. It's one of those videos that I like to watch myself over and over again. I'm glad that I was able to give you back some memories of your childhood with this video.

It is sad that Lego doesn't seem to do railroad crossing sets anymore

Thank you for the nice words. I'm glad you liked it. I find it's the best solution with the most realistic movement.

The 12 V era began around 1970, when the rails were blue. The first set shown from 1976 was compatible with 12 V. You can see the part between the rails that could be removed for the electric rails, as it is done in the next set with the grey rails. 12 V begann nicht mit den grauen Schienen, sondern mit den blauen, um 1970. Der erste gezeigte Bahnübergang von 1976 hat wie der zweite ein herausnehmbares Teil für die Stromschienen. Dieser Teil des Sets, der Bahnübergang selbst, dürfte exakt der gleiche sein in beiden Sets.

Da hörst du von mir keinen Einspruch. Ich bin nur leider erst darauf gestoßen, nachdem ich das Video veröffentlicht hatte. Ich kannte zwar die blauen Schienen, wusste aber tatsächlich nicht, dass es dazu auch blaue Stromschienen gab. Die sind mir nie zwischen die Finger gekommen. Ich mache gerade eine deutsche, verbesserte Version von dem Video und werde das aufnehmen. Danke trotzdem für deinen Hinweis. KeXy

@@kexysbrickbuilts Gern. Die blaue 12V-Bahn (Set 720) war der schönste Teil meiner Kindheit und meine Kinder haben auch damit gespielt, nur deswegen wußte ich es.

Dein MOC ist sehr schön und der neue Zug ist super!

So you need then go with raised MILS plates and use a thumb rule for train tracks. Rising them by 1 plate on 1 str8 track for smooth ride Waiting for MOC showcase of passenger express looks awesome!

Yes, unless you're already using MILS plates, raising one plate per track piece is a good rule. I did that on the right side, but not on the left and that's why the loco jumped. The MOC of the Passenger Train is not the final version yet. I'm still working on a sleeping car and I ordered custom stickers because I have something very special planned ;-)

The barriers in front of the crossing close first for safety reasons. If you are trapped on the crossing when the barriers go down, you can still just normally leave the crossing. Quite often, the barriers behind the crossing are completely missing.

Yes.. that is completely correct.. Most level crossings with barriers are only equipped with half barriers.

As a kid, I had a Lego 12V train system. The railway crossing was remotely controlled, just like the signals and switches. Unthinkable, nowadays.

Thanks for your comment. It's more like an old European level crossing from a time when you still had to do a lot by hand. I wanted to make it visually not too modern and therefore all the levers. From my childhood I still remember such railroad cabins that were responsible not only for the railroad gates but also for the switching of switches and train signals.

Looks great but i think it would look better if the rails were roght next to each other wothout the “house” since i think more crossong now are automated. But still like the looks of it.

Sure, you're right of course. Most modern level crossings no longer have a "house". But I intentionally wanted to create something classic, old fashioned. A level crossing without anything is boring, and you have to hide the battery box and the motors somewhere. I also tried around for a long time because of the tracks. I originally wanted to fit the entire level crossing on a 32x32 baseplate, but that was absolutely impossible. Actually, you have to keep a distance of 8 studs, because the standard LEGO switches tell you so. But if you stick to it, you won't have room on the 48x48 baseplate to accommodate the motors to the left or right of the tracks. Then there was only the possibility of making the tracks further apart or very close together like the level crossing 7866 from 1983. Not so easy ;-)

i miss the old train systems with the buttons and stuff, it was so much fun

yes, those were really good times. I'm glad you like my design. Before I designed this level crossing, I also considered buying the electronics from TrixBrix. But I think their barrier booms are moving way too fast and that's not realistic... and you can also automate it with Powered Up components and the LEGO app if you really want it...

@@GJBricks It might be possible to slow down the movement with a resistance. Unfortunately, I'm also afraid that the TrixBrix components can't lift too much weight and in my case I wanted big booms. Have you already received the crossover switches or are you still waiting for them?

Extension idea: Use a Mindstorm or Arduino and insert a light barrier to open and close the level crossing automatically.

Yes, there are a few ways to motorize the level crossing. I did this on my first level crossing with Powered Up components. There I used the light sensor and programmed everything via the smartphone. Worked great.

@@Cyberrailer Das mit den Lichtzeichen am Bahnübergang muss ich mir auch noch ansehen. Das wäre natürlich ein nettes extra, wenn man das machen könnte... Aber ich bin bei sowas leider gar nicht drin. Problem bei meinem Bahnübergang ist natürlich die Höhe die man braucht, um den Antrieb zu verstecken... das ist nur was für die Leute, die MILS-Plates verwenden... ich würde es trotzdem feiern, wenn ich das Ding mal irgendwo sehen würde.. bei Dietmar geht es ja leider auch nicht.. 😞

The best thing we as lego fans can do is to suggest and remind lego that train safety and education is at every rail crossing, so for them to teach at the same time to educate the public at the same time to build the crossing!( a lesson learned)

Fantastic train crossing. Personally I think LEGO has lost it's way. The sets they release nowadays are just not as good as they use to be. I just don't understand what they doing these days. City sets seem to have corners cut and we have to pay more than before.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. I agree with you, you have the feeling that the sets are getting less and less and that they are getting more and more expensive. But to be fair, LEGO has always been expensive. The 7740 passenger train from 1980 cost about 200 Deutsche Marks (about 100 euros/$100) in Germany at the time. The current passenger train costs just a little more over 40 years later with a discount ;-)

I personally did not mind the crossing from the heavy haul set. Though I was disappointed when it only crossed 1 track. Hence forth, I was able to get some salvaged parts and made an eBay order to make it a 2 track crossing. Not even close to this. But better than nothing

Well, the railroad crossing in the heavy haul set is nothing special, of course, but this set is about the train and not the railroad crossing. The level crossing is just an extra in the set. But since the level crossing is built very simply, you can easily expand it.

@@cjstrader8171 I wouldn't call it a knockoff. But these bricks also come from Asia, of course. The quality of the bricks, pins, axles etc. has improved a lot in the last two years. You can also order "GoBricks" bricks through Webrick, which many in the community rate even better than LEGO, especially because there is no color variation within each color. The order included an axle (10L) that was slightly curved. You can see it in the test run at 10:35 to the left of the motors (the grey one). It doesn't cause any problems, but I got additional axles and swapped them again. All others were perfectly fine. Another example at 08:44. The transition between the stacked webricks is much smoother than that of the LEGO bricks. All the pins and gears I've used also work perfectly. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for LEGO, but sometimes I just don't want to spend that much money on it, especially when I don't know if it's going to work. If you're interested, give it a chance. If you're disappointed, which I don't think, at least you haven't spent a fortune.

Great video.... These Lego crossings were very childdish and unrealistic in the 1960s and 1970s, like the whole Lego was in the blue area....

I have to say that in the 60s and 70s the level crossings were of course designed as toys and that's why the design at that time doesn't bother me too much. However, I find it a pity that LEGO doesn't manage to bring an automated level crossing to the market these days. There are so many railroad fans who have been disappointed with the railroad releases of the last few years.

@@kexysbrickbuilts I have an idea. If you have a Lego-brick, you say it is a 2 by 4 brick, or a 1 by 4 plate, or 2 by 2 tile, right? Why don't you use the new Dutch names? First you take the short side, then the long side. For instance: A 1 by 1 brick, plate or tile is now a 11 brick, plate or tile. A 1 by 2 is now a 12 brick, plate, or tile. Or a 13, 14, 16 or 18 brick, plate or tile. A 2 by 2 is now a 22 brick, plate or tile. Or a 23, 24, 26 or 28 brick, plate or tile. 3 by 3 is a 33 brick. 4 by 4 is a 44 brick. If you want to build or order something you now say you need: 6 1 by 4 bricks, 4 2 by 2 plates and 5 1 by 2 tiles, right? You now can say you need: 6 14 bricks, 4 22 plates and 5 12 tiles. Give every colour a number. White is 001. If you need 001 6 14 bricks, plates or tiles, you want 6 white 1 by 4 bricks, plates or tiles. Wenn die ganze Welt das macht ist er ganz einfach. Yes I know what you mean. But with a "contact" on the rails I don't know how to solve that. But I have a solution with Powered up. However, the solution is not cheap, since you definitely need two Powered up battery boxes and two Powered Up motion sensors (88007). You also need to use the Powered Up app for smartphone or software for computer ("The Brick Automation Project" by Vincent Vergonjeanne), which you can download for free. With a bit of programming work, you can use it to automate the level crossing, that means the train drives through the light barrier of the motion sensor and the level crossing closes and opens again after a certain time.

13:07 But aren't the powered up electronics about the same size as the power functions if not smaller? Or would you just have to re design it to make a hole for the bluetooth signals to work but then again it's bluetooth not IR.

The problem is the connections for the cables. With Power Functions you put the cables on top of the battery box. With Powered Up you plug the cables into the side of the box and you need 2 more studs to accommodate the cables in the house.

Apart from the fact that TrixBrix products are generally not really cheap, the shipping costs are also more in the middle. For shipping to the Netherlands you have the choice between TNT (3 day delivery time - full insurance) for 14 euros or DPD Europe for 8 euros. With the blue freight train you mean the 60052, don't you? In any case, it is possible to install the Powered Up Battery Box, but the benefits are probably small compared to the costs. The range of the receiver will probably be a little better and you don't need direct line of sight for the controls. But usually you pay about 50 euros for the battery box and that is actually too much for the added value. I can only recommend the curves with the larger radii. The trains just look a lot better on it. The next few days there will be a video about my Express Passenger Train MOD and I will show a large test track with a radius of 184 to let the train go really fast.

I'm not sure if the ratio of the dimensions will still fit. The alternative battery box was just an idea. I can understand if you prefer to stick with a unified system.

Yes, of course I know that, but if you take a close look at the timetable, you can assume that it is more of a train timetable than a bus timetable, since cities like Zurich, Hamburg, Paris and London are listed there.

I can see why you didn’t like the 2010 Level Crossing for Set 7936, it’s missing a control room, right? I’d say Lego is doing well with adding Level Crossings in Train Sets since 2014, it’s like a 2 in 1 deal, if you buy a train set, you get a level crossing too.

Well, it's not just the lack of a control house, they're just not proper barriers either. The construction is just crap. Basically, I also think it's good that LEGO includes level crossings with the train sets, but unfortunately they're nothing special either. For me, a level crossing consists of more than just 2 - 4 slopes and a few tiles, as you can see on my MOC ;-)

I'd be happy if I could just tell you that. The railway crossing costs between 350 and 500 Euro/US with real LEGO parts, depending on the Bricklink dealers. It's different every day. For the 60197 passenger train you pay up to 600 Euro/US if you only order the individual parts. However, if you buy the train twice while it's still available (currently for about 90 Euro/US) and order the missing parts, then the train will only cost up to 250 Euro/US.

Tatsächlich eher moderner. Ich bin gerade dabei, den neuen Bahnhof (bzw. etwas besserer Bahnsteig) komplett umzubauen. Mir gefällt die Farbgebung und der Stil grundsätzlich, aber da muss deutlich mehr Fleisch dran. Da wird es wohl noch ein Video dazu geben. ;-)

Yes it is... it´s a class 1822 of the ÖBB.

Safety is no where to be found for the operator. You need a proper stair up.

Yes.. you are right.. I have already redesigned it in the current model. Now there is at least one handrail to the left and right of the stairs.

Kann es sein, dass du wie ich auch mit einem Grundmodell anfängst wenn du etwas entwirfst? Das ist auch mein Stil beim Entwurf. Erst das Grundmodell designen und bauen, nur um es im Anschluss wieder zu zerlegen und von Grund auf neu aufzubauen. Dann kann ein Set bei mir sehr schnell um einige hundert Teile zulegen und auch weitere Farben für Detailarbeiten bekommen. Am BlueBrixx RTW erklärt: er hatte nach meinem Umbau rund 200 Teile mehr und sechs weitere Farben verpasst bekommen

Das trifft so ziemlich genau meine Vorgehensweise. Wobei ich aber zunächst immer erst das aller kniffligste entwerfe.. die Essenz auf die es praktisch ankommt. Wenn das geklappt hat, dann bau ich mir erst mein Ausgangs- oder Grundmodell. Bei dem Bahnübergang waren es erst die Schranken und die Idee des Antriebs, insbesondere die Übersetzung/Umlenkung der Achsen. Dann die Box außen rum... naja.. und alles was oben drauf kommt ist schmückendes aber auch austauschbares Beiwerk.. Deswegen kann ich im Nachhinein auch verschiedene Modelle anbieten... und ja.. es werden immer mehr.. und mehr.. und mehr Teile... als ob es nix kosten würde ;-)
