Usually I place melee units close to disciple because if you place them 2 or 3 spots in front , then the missiles from the disciple wont pass through creeps and it loses damage.

Yeah warrior resend in general works if you know they had big single target units but it's hard to be 100% sure and Spirits just mess with a lot of heavy armor holder units.
