The brass tube is definitely not a problem. Not sure why you’re sweating it. The tang is encased in the molded handle. It’s literally under zero tension and won’t be crushed unless you’re hitting it from the side with a hammer.,.. which no one would do. Brass is a non-ferrous material that won’t rust and is extremely tough. Not to mention brass has been used on knife fittings for at least the last 100 years. The handle has been like this since the model came out 30 years ago… what’s the problem? When you buy a Trailmaster, you know that’s what you’re going to get. If you don’t like it, you can get a custom maker to replace the handle. Functionally, there’s zero problem here.

Those brass rivets have come loose so many times with KZread content creators testing, it’s pathetic. Different story when it’s in my hands. You got your opinion I got mine. Not to mention…. There is way better for the price…. Why so butt hurt.

I have a San Mai 3. I have no complain about it. No sheath complain and no handle complain. When I am field dressing an animal in the wild and get the handle bloodied, I love the way the handle will not slip from my hand. It's a heavy duty knife. No complain at all.

If ever there were a knife to desire during a bear attack, this would be it. I have the 6 inch SRK in CPM-3V and I LOVE IT. I doubt the internet scientists out there know for sure that these sheaths "dull knives". I am sure Cold Steel weighed out the complaints against it with reality.

I should receive mine today. The one thing I haven’t found is if the tang is full or not. If the tang is full, it would be much easier to replace the scales. You can always purchase a really nice leather sheath and get the scales replaced by a good tradesmen.

The plunge grinds near the ricasso of your’s, is uneven. Mine had the same issue, so I sent it back to GSM, and the replacement, is perfect. If you look at the spine of yours, you will see that the flat grind of the knife, has ground away the overall thickness by like half a mil, in one side, leaving a sharp corner on the spine, at the top of the ricasso. I’d exchange that knife, if I were you.

Well I did get this for $211 bucks. 3V is my favorite steel. If we are talking LT Wright, Battle Horse, Bark River, then yes in my opinion. From Cold Steel/Taiwan? Not so sure. But I feel I got this at a great deal. These are being sold for like $500-600 bucks! We are talkin Cold Steel here LOL.... The working man's knives... Not getting ripped off by them.

I love the CS TM. I have an O1 since 2006. I want the 3V bad! So I ordered 2 from Midway. I am waiting for delivery tomorrow and the day after. One was $237 delivered, and the other is $173.5 delivered (yup, $173.5!!!). I hope they are both clear of overground defects bt the gaurds! At $173 out the door, I should have bought all Midway had in stock! I think it was a mistake, it was on sale for $216 and they are currently running a 25% coldsteel knife discount. After I bought it, the very next day the price jumped up to $349!!! But they were still running the 25% coupon. I wish I got both at the lower price, or got all they had in stock!🤣

Ontario Ratt 1 is my pocket knife. Got a cold steel master hunter on my hip, since it’s deer season. I got the cold steel trail master too. Little too big for edc,but it’s in arms reach lol

If they were going to put a brass lanyard tube, then they should've made the guard brass to match. Or of course, just make the tube the same stainless as the guard. Still a good knife. I have the O1 version. I was considering upgrading to the 3V version, until I saw it had the same v ground edge as my O1 version. If anything, I'll buy the San Mai version because it has the convex edge. I don't use mine enough that 3V will make a difference in my use. I don't mind the handle material because it's very grippy, so you won't loose the knife while chopping. Let's face it, this knife is primarily a chopper. If you have the tools, it's not real hard to make yourself a custom handle for it, but you really need a decent belt sander to do it up right.

If you want a similar knife with a g10 handle, keep an eye out for the 3v laredo bowie on midway. Saw it on sale for 200 something a while back.

The brass eyelet differences it from the full SS San Mai, hence the SS eyelet. You obviously aren't 100% pleased with that bad boy.. almost though, right? I also have both too.

Was all set to buy, but every one I've seen is badly ground, and the cheap sheath on an expensive knife dulls the edge I'm told. So, No! Just bought an old carbon V one instead. Sort your QC out GSM, you're ruining Cold Steel. Completely unacceptable ! :-(

From what I knew the Trail Master and its smaller and bigger brothers didn't have a full tang. Cold Steel did something like a half tang with a half spring rat tail. The idea was to keep vibration on the handle down when chopping. However, in one of the Thompson's videos he said this knife was not for bush craft or chopping, so what was the point? This kind of knife SHOULD have a full tang. Cold Steel you lost me as a customer.

I have to agree. This should be a full tang but much testing has been done with this knife and it seems to do ok. I don’t like the one rivet idea anymore. Handle should be g10/Micarta with 2 removable screws and full tang.

NOT brushed!...it is machined. Being CPM 3v. Very hard to machine.
