This film is a masterpiece. Both the Director AND the composer. The late and great James Horner. They worked together on a few films. Glory is another they worked on

@Imon_Snow Don't worry this movie breaks everyone it's beautiful, sad one breath warm and tingly and the next breath sad and soul crushing, but the family loyalty dynamic wins over in the end. It shows us even when we push away the ones we love sometimes through anger or bad choices that true family love can endure even through the family anger that drowns us through our bad choices, the biggest obstacles are usually much smaller in reality and to be loyal and loving even when we're pushed away by a son or daughter, mother or father - do you want to be right? Or do you want to have the love from your family. I find too many people are so busy being right that they don't realise that they're destroying the most important relationships and at the end of the day being right really doesn't matter if it costs our loved ones. I love your reactions you're such a warm spirit that just shines through the screen when you watch movies like Legends of the fall, as a dude I totally get the Brad Pitt thing in this movie some things are just self evident, I'm confident enough to say he looks truly stunning in this film a true male movie silver screen icon, incidently this is the movie that made his career and launched him into the superstar status. xxx

One of the most memorable movie growing up in my teenage years. They don’t make movies like this anymore.

I also love "a river runs thrrough it"with a young Brad Pitt. It's about 2 brothers & set during this time period also. It's a beautiful movie with gorgeous scenery too.

River Runs Though It didn’t make him a star as much as this movie did though. Because after River, he did the movie called Kalifonia where he plays a murderer which wasn’t big at all. Legends of the Fall was what really catapulted him into super stardom

I saw this movie in the theater when I was in high school. I immediately bought a Brad Pitt poster and hung it in my bedroom. This movie was so epic, my friends and I would watch it at sleepovers and cry together (and swoon). Good times. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Tristan only went to war to try and protect the other two, Samuel in particular. He was portrayed as more of a warrior and a hunter than a soldier. He definitely wouldn't have gone if not for Samuel.

This was so huge when it came out. It was the movie that skyrocketed Brad Pitt’s career and made him a huge mega star

I have to say, it always baffles me when I see people blame Isabel's death on Alfred. Like, Tristan got into an illegal trade like bootlegging, knowing that he's pissing in the face of the local MAFIA! And when Tristan is warned by the mob to stop, he just ignores them. I'm sorry, Tristan got his own wife killed by being a moron. Col. Ludlow shouldn't have been angry with Alfred, he should have been angry with himself for encouraging his son to go into bootlegging knowing it would be dangerous.

Totally agree, also people often don't seem to understand that Alfred was trying to warn Tristan by telling him to let go of Isabelle Two's death. He knew Tristan would want revenge, which is very understandable, but by doing that he was putting his children's life in great danger as well, yet again. That's why Alfred tried to convince Tristan it was "merely" a tragic accident.

First of all my brother and are best friends. Many years ago he moved to western Montana, up in the mountains. I missed him so I moved out there too. Life events brought us back to Ohio, but I'll never forget the wonderful times I had in Missoula Montana. It was the very best time of my life, and I'll cherish it forever.

I’ve watched this movie a thousand times and have cried just like it’s the first time. This movie is one of my all time favorites.

I had so much fun rewatching this with you, Imon. I'm surprised you hadn't seen it before. In the Beast Man Movie Hall of Fame, _Legends of the Fall_ is probably #1. I can't think of many movies that men and women enjoy equally but this is one of them. I know that when most women are staring off into the distance, they're either thinking of horses or Brad Pitt in this movie, or both. Keep these fantastic videos coming. I highly recommend _A River Runs Through It_ which features Pitt and has a few of the same elements, but is not nearly as melodramatic.

I agree that A River Runs Through It is a good move, but the novella it's based on is breathtaking. The final voiceover is taken word for word from the book.

Incredible movie. What I like the most is that there are no bad people within the family. Each of them had their flaws, as eveyone does, but they were good, decent people. By the way, James Horner's score was amazing!!!

I'm normally a sci-fi/fantasy guy, but I have said for years that this movie has a little something for everyone. It has been my favorite since a friend dragged me to the theater to see it on the big screen. It's really relatable to so much of my life.

A great movie for myself as well. My dad was a fly fisherman so my brothers and I grew up camping, fishing and swimming all over the West. And about life choices too, avoiding hurt and pain when you can, but not completely, I've learned you can't really live without risk of being hurt. To avoid pain is like a living death, no real joy or adventure of life. Best wishes for your happiness.

Great reaction! Your insights are relatable and compelling. IMO, the greatest Chick Flick of all time, epic adventure and romance and tragedy. All the performances are great and on multiple viewings everyone has a subtlety to their characters that is satisfying to discover. I’ve noticed the increase in young boys named Tristan since 1994, and at least one of my friends confirmed that her son is named for Brad Pitt, lol.

Written by one of America’s greatest writers Jim Harrison. This was a novella that was in a collection. One of the others was made into the movie Revenge with Kevin Costner, Madeline Stowe and Anthony Quinn. It’s exceptional too.

I was devastated when I learned that James Horner had died. I can remember looking for his music in record stores in the 70s but I hadn't yet related it to scores for movies. He has such a haunting quality in his music and can take one right to medieval times like in Braveheart. Incredible talent and sorely missed while grateful for what he created so beautifully.

Imon i knew i had to subscribe to your channel when i seen the Mushrooms on the back of your wall, been out foraging here in Scotland, you started twirling your hair when you first saw Triston, priceless. Relentless was the word i thought of when i first seen this movie. Imon iv'e seen 8 different decades on this Earth and led a life not unlike Triston's and the greatest suffering came to me when i hadn't seen the Love around me, Tragedy and Emotional Spiritual lessons have all came from Women and they did it because they loved me and i love them for it, Loved the reaction, Thank you.

Tristan was a reckless free spirit who lived his life on his terms and had to pay a steep price for it. His choices had damaging and life altering effects on him and those who loved him.

I love this movie but I love your reaction more. You are truly a human and realize we all have faults and shortcomings, just remember to always try and do the " RIGHT" thing no matter what anyone else does. That's morally right I mean.

I understand them wanting to go to war. In this case anyway. It's not like the war their father was a part of that was one nation conquering another. It was World War I and if the side the British were on had lost, the entire civilized world would have suffered. Most people knew that and that's why so many people flocked to enlist. Because it was the right thing to do at the time. It was the same in World War II. essentially the freedom of western world was in jeopardy from a very greedy enemy.

Re: “doing anything about PTSD” at the time, actually they did…. THEY PUNISHED IT. 😭😭😭 I’m serious, they court martialed some of these guys for cowardice when they froze. Keep in mind too (and I haven’t seen “1917” so maybe you’re aware) that WWI was so much worse than barbed wire and mustard gas…. The trenches were absolutely squalid, and then when they would emerge the first thing exposed to all this modern new warfare was faces. Interesting fact, modern reconstructive surgery was developed to help these very young men coming home with half their face missing. Another movie that does a really good job depicting the PTSD of the time - and is an absolute masterpiece besides - is “Hacksaw Ridge.”

My greatest guilty pleausure. So damn kitschy at times, but it is just such a great movie :)

I thought Brad Pitt was a cute kid lbut when I saw Legends of the Fall I flipped. I drove my family nuts recording it but they loved the movie too. No longer a cute kid witj potential but an actor with much more than good looks. Depth soul talent and yeah gorgeous!! Still is!!! And still one of ky favorite movies. ❤

Hilarious to think this as a part of Quinten Tarantinos inspiration for Inglorious Bastards. I really wouldn't put it past a film connoisseur like him finding his muse for the character Aldo(?) in this movie.

But why couldn't they all move on with their lives? How long was Alfred living in the city before he professed his love for Susannah a second time? And Susannah should have moved on with her life, and not just to the next brother as in Alfred but a whole other family. Why was she still staying with the father when Alfred was in the city and Tristan was out in Africa? And then, Susannah choosing to marry Alfred if she never really was feeling it ... she kind of had problems before she commited suicide, she really needed help. And how many years went by, and she was married to Alfred ... and she was still hung up on Tristan ... Yeah, Tristan needed some time to heal ... but it was irresponsible of him to not come home sooner. Why did he choose to end things as he did? Poor choices. How many years was he away? How long did it take him to "cut her loose", stringing her along for all that time? I'm sorry, but their mother all but abandoning them when they were kids ... that's some bad decision, and it certainly affected the boys. And I gotta say, Tristan marrying Isabel 2 ... I thought it was way too easy for him, and he sort of got off on women throwing themselves at him. And, I felt she was way too young for him. He knew her from when she was just a kid. I'm sorry, but that's kind of messed up. I just feel people weren't getting on with their lives. So many years went by, and they were stuck. It's more like a cowboy opera than a reflection of real life. Because honestly, how many years are these people carrying these feelings of unrequited love? How many decades? In real life, people deal, people move on. So many heart breaks happen ... life's not a tragic opera.

@Imon_Snow I don't know if you watch Yellowstone but you would love it. Like this movie it has a Montana ranch and the scenery that comes with it, horses, family drama and rugged beautiful men. Obviously the story is completely different but it is great story telling as well. If you do watch it already would you consider recording reactions starting with the next season?

And can we talk about the absolutely amazing, stunning, Laurence Olivier himself can hold his beer, MIND BLOWING performance delivered by Sir Anthony Hopkins??! The man delivered most of his performance without words, with only his face…. WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY KEEPING HALF OF HIS FACE FLACCID. The Academy could have retired the Best Actor award after this performance as far as I’m concerned. Yes I know this was a supporting role not lead, I don’t care it was THAT GOOD

You make it sound like Susanna was whoring. She lost her first love, Samuel, the man she originally was ready to live here life with but he was taken away from her through war. Something she had no control over. So like Stab said, "She was not to blame. ...What happened next was not her fault". Vulnerable by heartbreak she fell for Tristan who filled that void for her. Once again, she gave her love to another brother who not only left her but dropped her like a bad habit. He was gone for years and his last letter to her was that he was dead and for her to marry another. Like a stab in the heart once again. What did you expect next? Of course she finally came to terms with giving what was leftover of her heart to the eldest brother who actually loved and cherished her.

You should watch Interview with the vampire, Brad Pitt and Tom cruise in one of the best vampire films.

Some other Aidan Quinn movies to watch: BLINK, Benny & Joon, The Assignment.

There are many female soldiers just like Tristan. My girls have the same rivalry those brothers did.
