Legends of Fandom | James Cameron's Spider-man

In the 90s there was suppose to be a Spider-man movie by the King of The World himself, James Cameron, but why didn't it happen?

    As much as I would have loved to have seen James Cameron’s version of Spider-Man, looking at how everything turned out, I can honestly say that I am happy everything worked out the way it did. I honestly am unsure of how Leonardo DiCaprio would have taken on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man but I am extremely happy with the 3 actors we ended up getting in the end.

    The entire idea needed more work, but 90s Kevin Spacey would have been amazing as Norman Osborn.

    I remember that poster with DiCaprio in Wizard Magazine when I was in middle school. I worked on the school paper, and I even mentioned it in comic-centric section--specifically that the poster was a parody, and not official. Still looks good, though. Though, with as many misgivings I might have with this first draft script, I would've been all for Nikki Cox playing Mary Jane.

    I'd love to see this made into a comic like Tim Burton's Batman 89 comics or Freddy vs Jason vs Ash.

    This one seemed he have gone in a similar direction as Amazing Spider-Man. Which is odd since that movie made those changes because a more traditional Spider-Man trilogy already happened 8:55 There’s an episode of Pokemon where Team Rocket has that exact plan. It’s why I can’t take that concept seriously

    I'm glad we got the films we did: Toby, Andrew, and Tom are Peter Parker. I'm also glad they ignored the letter in Amazing Spider-Man 375 saying Jim Carrey should be Peter/Spider-Man. That said I now wonder what would've happened had Canon and Cameron been allowed to make their films.

    While I'm extremely happy we ended up Sam Raimi's version, that doesn't mean I would've still loved to have seen this movie. Despite the liberties it makes on the mythology of Spider-Man, Cameron understood the character very well and had some good quips and jokes. With the opening having him complain the news mistypes his name as "The Spiderman" and not "Spider-Man". Also, his costume was described to be very accurate to the comics. Regardless if you think Cameron wasn't a fan, he presented the Scriptment to Stan Lee, and he LOVED it. The whole reason Cameron's X-Men never happened was because Stan Lee sparked a conversation with Cameron and they both talked all about Spider-Man. Cameron even went out of his way to make a concept art that's been revealed online that mirrors the 2000 PS1 cover. In Cameron's recent book, he also revealed he wanted the sequel to feature Venom because he said he was his favorite Spider-Man villain. In terms of the casting, aside from Leonardo DiCaprio as Spider-Man, I don't know if the actors you mentioned are real or just typical fancasting as none of the actors you mentioned confirmed their involvement besides DiCaprio. But the movie would've also had some amazing special effects, back when Cameron did practical and CGI sparely. You know a stunt actor would've really swung across the city like the Helicopter chase from Darkman, and you know the Twin Towers finale would've been shot there, and not on green screen.

    About the organic web shooters: I honestly think that "gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gets superpowers, wallclimbing ability and the webshooters out of it" is actually less far fetched than ""gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gets superpowers, wallclimbing ability and happens to be a total genius who happens to invent webshooters around the same time". Don't get me wrong, Spidey is one of my favourite superheroes if not THE favourite, and the webshooter thing isn't a showstopper for me, but I like the grown ones a little better. :)

    Personally I'd be interested to see the universe this slightly harder edge Spider-Man was made, especially since Brand New Day Marvel has insisted Spider-Man be an "all-ages" brand (kids only) with drugs, sex, swearing and anything generally related to being an adult being phased out from all incarnations of the character. Spider-Man these days is more or less just "Thwip Thwip, Quip Quip" so I'm curious if the Cameron movie would have delayed that change or brought it on earlier.

    While the idea of Cameron's Spider-man seems interesting, I feel like it would age like milk if it got made. I genuinely enjoy what we have and thou some of the Spider-man movies could be better I don't believe we would've gotten half of them if Cameron got his way. With that being said it is always fun to speculate what if. Regardless have a nice day Erod :D

    I highly doubt James Cameron is a fan of Spiderman, and I'm glad his movie was never made. Seriously, Electro and Sandman are more like henchmen rather than criminal masterminds. He should have chosen Green Goblin, Doc Ock or even Kingpin.

  • @brandonspain12345

    @brandonspain12345

    You gotta admit that Electro wasn't all that of an interesting character before, and there's a good reason why most versions of him are so different from his original story. Hell, Sandman was never that interesting of a character until the early 90s. Speaking of Green Goblin, James Cameron wrote a book recently that mentioned this film, and he actually said he hated Green Goblin and Shocker. Venom was his favorite. So much so, that his plan for the sequel was intended to introduce Venom.

So tell us ERod, why did you cancel Legends of Fandom for 4 years... if you still had plenty of material to work with? 😮😢 Looks to me that you don't respect your fans, at all!! #SueERod

    James Cameron would’ve done a pretty good job. Honestly though, the sex scenes, inaccurate versions of the characters, and an R rating would’ve killed it as well. This is Spider-Man we are talking about. The last time we had a gritty Spider-Man was TASM, and that film was initially not well received.
