I've watched F1 for 42 years now. During this time teams and drivers have risen and fallen from the top. Nigel Mansell was and still is my British hero, yet Ayrton Senna will always be the very best driver I have ever seen race, first hand at Silverstone and mostly on tv. He had a God given talent which was crystal clear on the track and an aura about him outside of racing which no other driver has presented before or since. We are all aware of his questionable driving in 89 and 90 yet there is no question, which ever era you follow now or previously, Ayrton was the ultimate F1 driver. When he was killed at Imola in 94, I felt bereavement the same as losing a family member. This is not pretentious, it was profound and sincere, similarly to millions the world over. We will never see his like again.

If you go by results then Schumacher and Fangio are the greatest ,if you go by pure talent ,skill and charisma then probably Senna is the greatest. For me Senna is the best because i grew up watching him race he was amazing and i will never forget that awful May 1st 1994

I have seen some breathtakingly amazing drivers in Motorsport through my life. Valentino Rossi, Michael Schumacher, Ari Vatanen, Petter Solberg and Ayrton Senna. Even though they are legends totally outside the discipline of F1 (except Senna and Schumacher) . They all share a few common traits, they are all bloody quick on their machines, they are brave and passionate about what they do. But Senna to me stands out above everybody, no racing driver has made me shed tears like Ayrton Senna. The way he drives alone is breathtaking, his commitment is an inspiration to myself personally. He will always in my eyes be the greatest racing driver in history. His energy just lights a smile on everyone's face, very few drivers are able to do that. You cannot forget Ayrton Senna.

I think Senna is quite an interesting character, but, after watching and reading so much about him, I feel that people usually get a slightly wrong idea of who he was and often depict him as a saint. Was him a good person, or just a selfish guy? Why people usually forgive his sins or just treat them like a child's misbehaviour? I'm not criticising or saying he was a bad person. I just wanna understand, since I wasn't born at the time. And I would very much appreciate hearing your opinios.

Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were both suitable for each others world, almost a shakespearean outlay of events that exposes familiar themes of the rhythm of life. Retrospectively they have both risen to be a nostalgic paradigm of asphalt gladiators and tamers of the ferocity of a formula one setup. Ayrton Senna perished in an incident where he was doing nothing else but "ride like the wind" and prost tearfully and symbolically 'carried' Ayrton over the finish line.

Hard to accept that Prost is not held accountable for what happened in 89' you can clearly see that he turned in early in suzuka to deliberately cause the crash with Senna and when he saw him continue racing, he went up to the stewards to lay the blame on Senna. Knowing that he (Prost) would have the backing of Balestre, what a cowardly thing to do!! At least Ayrton did his talking on the track, and rightly or wrongly that was the only way he was going to get things going his way, because Balestre would always side with Prost!

Mark Goodlett It's probably too late to make a comment but... they never showed prost running to the track managers, don't remember the name of them, to disqualify ayrton. He went there running, there's footage of that! The next year they say ayrton crashed prost on purpose. This looks true, we cannot know for sure. But it's also true that ayrton got the pole and after the qualifying they changed the line of the pole position putting the him on the dirty side of the track. They changed it so they would give a better chance to prost. Complete bullshit. Just say it as it is!

Schumacher has 8, Hamilton 6 and Senna 3, but Senna drove with passion and flair especially in the wet. He was the perfect F1 driver of his time mainly with McClaren 88-92. Really loved kids. It's very easy to see what Prost means in Suzuka '88 when he start turn to the right shocking with Senna's car. Look with attention that Alain begins turn BEFORE the right position to make that curve... Unless he mean to make it with the wheels on the grass! It's clear he mean stop Ayrton in an accident, because he couldn't do it in another way. Senna was showman in F1. And in '89 Ayrton was clear in his notice explaining what happened in the first corner. The F1 president, the france Jean-Marie Balestre, have changed the start position to the dirt side of the racetrack to make a better condition to Alain gets the first position in the green light! So, Prost open a gap and Senna toke it... It's NORMAL! When you're driving a race car, you're driving to win! Senna's car was half by the side of Prost. Alain knew that the collision would happen if he turned to the right. And it happened! Besides, Alain own to Senna a World Championships in the before year, 1989... Talião law! "Eye by eye, tooth by tooth" or something like that. Excuse my poor english.

1.) You mean 1989 and 1990, not 1988 and 1989. 2.) Senna was never alongside Prost going into the chicane before that crash. Senna sent it into a gap that was always closing and was entitled to be left no space by Prost. Senna’s style of racing has been described as “I’m going to put my car there, either move out of my way or we’re going to crash” (that’s by Martin Brundle in 2012 btw). That’s exactly what he tried at the 1989 Japanese Grand Prix. He dived Prost from miles back aiming for a gap and hoping Prost backed out. As 1976 World Champion James Hunt said watching it live “he wasn’t past Prost, he went into a gap and Prost had every right to turn in” 3.) In 1990 and since 1987 (the first Japanese Grand Prix), pole was always on the dirty side of the track. It was never moved to spite Senna. Senna asked for the pole to be moved to clean side of the track AFTER he got pole. What people can’t agree on is if the FIA said yes to change it then changed their mind, or if they just told him no. 4.) if Senna owes Prost a title for 1989, then Senna owes Prost for 1988, where Prost scored more points but lost the title due to a dumb dropped results system. Senna was disqualified for receiving an illegal push start, which was right by the rulebook

This doccumentary is still being political 15 years later...Prost did the same thing Ayrton did in 88 or 89 I forget but the reason Ayrton crashed into Prost intentionally was because the situation was switched from years earlier when Prost drove into Ayrton intentionally and the FIA fought for Prost when he did it but only looked the other way when Ayrton did it, I mean could Ayrton have been more responsible, sure but I certainly dont see it as a black mark on his record

  • @shooter7a

WHAT on earth are you talking about? In 1989, Senna was 3-4 car lengths back. You are going to put that on Prost? When you turn in, you are not looking over your shoulder. You size up the gap to a driver challenging you as you hit your brake point. At the professional level when a car is that far back back...there is no reasonable expectation of a pass attempt because you are both close enough to the limit that the only way someone that far back is making the corner is if they use you as a curb! So you turn in. But Senna throws it in there from way back in a nonsensical pass attempt that had no chance. That crash was 100% on Senna. Prost did nothing wrong. The wrong in 1989 was the inconsistent ruling against Senna by the sanctioning body. 1990...was even more blatant. Senna acted like a child, and Senna knew it. You could see in his own body language that he was ashamed of what he did. Why did his eyes well up like a child when Mosely dressed him down. Because he knew he had behaved like a child. I love Senna, but he was a bit of a self centered asshole, and he got away with childish behavior because of his charm, charisma and intensity. As a man, Prost had more character and integrity by far. Senna had more passion and a drive to win at all costs. It might be why he is no longer alive.

@@shooter7a That's why the VAR failed in football. You have a clear image, but two point of views. Each one sees what it suits the best. It's crystal clear, cars side-by-side in a point where uncountable overtakes were/are done, Prost looks to his side and sees Senna, then he deliberately turns agressively into Senna's car (waaaay before the apex...). His front wheels are blocked in the straight position (hmm, he wasn't supposed to make the curve?) - he only really wanted to take Senna out the race in purpose. And STILL there're people who blame Senna for the accident, that clearly was caused intentionally by a pissed Prost, unsatisfied with all the situation inside the team. And in 1996 Balestre admitted to having acted to benefit Prost, so hands down. And I love Prost.

@@keithrichards4296 Senna made it a habit of putting himself in a position where he was committed, but his opponent had a choice to yield, or get crashed out. Sorry but you can not remove the first act, and only consider the second. That is what I think you are doing. You treat Senna's position as if it was just a situation he had nothing to do with creating! Also, what control does Prost have over Balestre? That is not on Prost.

  • @keithrichards4296

@@shooter7a The point is about PURPOSE. Intention. *Purpose 1* : Keeping your racing line to proper make the curve. - Senna then gets in the way, putting both in a compromising position, which it ended causing a crash when Prost was going to keep his racing line. => not what it happened. *Purpose 2* : To take your opponent out because you're pissed with so many 'things'. - Then you see Senna at your side and you deliberately turn your car into him intentionally, because, of course, for you that's the last straw. Obviously and clearly Prost's purpose was the number 2. And not willing to open mind to see the opposite point of view is about being a denier/negationist. (Or hypocrite). If Imola's GP doesn't happens some people would lost some millions. 2) Schumacher received some ilegal features to boost his performance, so, forcing Senna to drive on the limits and put much more pressure on Willians Team. 3) Senna knows that Schumacher and Briatore was cheating to win. Senna said to Willians denunciate the Benetton team. Frank Willians refused. 4) According to experts, if the hit happens 2 centimeters more or less, he would survived. It was a great misfortune.

chopperbubba Senna suffer tree main injures, but the decisive cause's death was the rupture of the temporal artery (as many experts says). In fact, if the hit happens some centimeters more or less, the temporal artery would be on perfect conditions and the respiratory conditions could be better and the brain hemorragy could be much less severe. Of course, Senna would survived, but with tremendous brain damages caused by desacceleration.

Moral lesson? Never exchange a good car for a shit car. Let's face it, Williams failed him. Well, he too failed himself from choosing to leave Mc laren on the first place. He's too good for Williams. They just can't admit that they cannot cope up with Senna. What a wasted talent.

You need to understand that Senna had to go. The guy knew too much. FIA was Bennetton's accomplice. The guy knew a lot and was willing to denounce everything, he was filling himself with information without saying anything. In addition, he was trying to reform the drivers' association for a safer F1, when the type of "safety" is determined by the FIA, not the drivers. They sacrificed Senna and Ratzemberger (and whoever they could that weekend) to justify implementing the safety changes ($$$$$$$) but under the terms and safety rules imposed by them, not the drivers. Senna had to go.

Schumacher took on Prost/Senna/Mansell without traction control, paddle shifters, and 100 HP less from 91-93, won races, was ahead of Senna in 92. The begining of 94 was just a tip of what it was going to happen. Senna had already mentally being dominated by Schumacher, He was lucky to die, otherwise we would've seen the real Senna, the crybaby Senna, that only won when He had the best car.

This is actually the worst documentary about senna ever made, a lot of information on why certain things happened are just completely unmentioned and makes it look like it was all senna's fault. A real shame on you guys who made this. The only thing is mentioned correctly and was indeed senna's fault was in monaco. But all the accidents in Japan for example are just shown in a real bad and uncorrect light. Senna was a lot of the time in very difficult, unlucky and disadvantaged situations and you make it seem like he was the most immature guy in the world. I think prost should earn that title more rightfully by crying for ballestre's help. There was also absolutely no mentioning about the really weird racing line prost took at the chicane in suzuka. Also you've made it sound like senna drove really badly in the williams, maaaybeee you should have said somthing about the new rules and thus no more drivable williams because the things that made it a good car were exactly the things they banned. Really, how dare you even publish this

+Frederico Gallagher Não foi somente isto. 1) Briatore e Schumacher roubavam (como ficou comprovado anos mais tarde). Senna e a Willians sabiam disso.

Once you get over the hysteria around Senna which f1 creates to attract people to their sport, and listen to what people are actually saying about him, Murray and the others couldn't even bring themselves to say they even "liked" the guy. Seems like he wasnt a great guy to be around at all, always crying and butt hurting about something. Taking out Prost like that was so unsprtsman like it was like the maradonna handball, or like screaming during someone's put, its sooooooo unfair, its disgusting actually. Im sure all the Argentinian fans love Maradonna for that handball, same with Ayerton, the comment section is full of fan boys crying their eyes out and remembering where they were awww, but i think the rest of the world knows what he really was, a gutter rat with no standards, then how can he be a great world champion?
