Mos/Yasiin's message hasn't changed in 25 years and people still aren't listening. This is why Andre isn't rapping much anymore. Both of them know the people are collectively too brainwashed to hear the message, let alone do something about it.

Unfortunately people would rather stick to the mainstream and are scared to look corny or cringe. People don't take chances by speaking for social change, they rather get a paychecks and go home and watch tiktok and do it all over again

People are too "brainwashed"? Possibly, people's tastes, both musically and philosophically, have changed. Matured. And if Mos' message hasn't changed in 25 years? Maybe it's time Mos get a new message.

I will always remember that he was the rapper that woke me up when other rappers were putting me to sleep. I followed and bought every album, even True Magic the album with zero promo, zero cover art or tracklist and I felt like he was talking to me when he said "my true fans will find it". I mourned when he said he was done with HipHop, I read a tribute so perfect that I cried, I literally cried. He's my truth teller, my favorite modern poet and the world will always need his truth. This is less about Drake and more to do with the state of our minds, what we've accepted as entertainment. What we value vs what we actually have...which is nothing. I just appreciate him so much

Mos Def is a Man who started his very first solo album (a #1 album) with a remake of Afrobeat’s Fela Kuti - “Fear Not for Man”. This message is in keeping with that introduction to the world. He has not been changed one bit by the industry: Listen, people be askin' me all the time "Yo, Mos, what's gettin' ready to happen with Hip-Hop?" (Where do you think Hip-Hop is goin'?) I tell em, "You know what's gonna happen with Hip-Hop? Whatever's happening with us" If we smoked out, Hip-Hop is gonna be smoked out If we doin' alright, Hip-Hop is gonna be doin' alright People talk about Hip-Hop like it's some giant livin' in the hillside Comin' down to visit the townspeople We are Hip-Hop Me, you, everybody, we are Hip-Hop So Hip-Hop is going where we going So the next time you ask yourself where Hip-Hop is going Ask yourself, "Where am I going? How am I doing?" 'Til you get a clear idea So if Hip-Hop is about the people And the Hip-Hop won't get better until the people get better Then how do people get better? (Hmm) Well, from my understanding people get better When they start to understand that, they are valuable And they not valuable because they got a whole lot of money Or 'cause somebody, think they sexy But they valuable 'cause they been created by God And God, makes you valuable And whether or not you, recognize that value is one thing You got a lot of societies and governments Tryin' to be God, wishing that they were God They wanna create satellites and cameras everywhere And make you think they got the all-seeing eye Eh, I guess The Last Poets wasn't too far off When they said that certain people got a God Complex I believe it's true I don't get phased out by none of that, none of that Helicopters, the TV screens, the newscasters, the Satellite dishes they just wishing They can't really never do that When they tell me to fear they law When they tell me to try to Have some fret in my heart behind the things that they do This is what I think in my mind And this is what I say to them And this is what I'm saying to you check it All over the world hearts pound with the rhythm Fear not of men because men must die Mind over matter and soul before flesh Angels hold a pen keep a record in time Which is passing and running like a caravan trader (uh-huh) The world is overrun with the wealthy and the wicked (uh) But God is sufficient in disposing of affairs Gunmen and stockholders try to merit my fear But God is sufficient over plans they prepared Mos Def in the flesh, where you at, RIGHT HERE

Everything they rapped about was over the none thinker head but still relevant to the thinker today . Everything is taking shape today as they spoke it. In short mos def made music not only to vibe to but to open your third eye ! So he never tried to keep up with rappers of his day or now staying true to his self .

Empires and kingdoms always come and go, and I don't think the average person in this country realizes this. They want to hold on to this idea that this will be around forever, but honestly, the way America as we know it came about made it almost certain that it would not last. You can't build forever on slaughter and terrorism.

It's funny how they are asking an NYC MC who became successful from pure skill what he thinks about a Pop artist ? I remember the days when we constantly dissed the pop rappers cause we felt they would destroy the value of the art form. Now look at hip hop and how many Pop rappers are dominant in the culture. It is a cookie cutter industry and super corny to witness. Many tried years ago to prevent this but society chose plastic over woodgrain.
