Legendary New York Style Pizza In Arizona?!
We love taking our toddler to new restaurants. This time, we tried a New York style pizza restaurant in Arizona.
Restaurant:
Sal's Gilbert Pizza, Gilbert, Arizona
What We Ate: Garlic knots, hand tossed cheese pizza, homemade ranch and a black and white cookie
Here is a little bit about the restaurant:
Born in Sicily, Sal grew up surrounded by fresh ingredients and homemade meals. He moved to New York in 1984 and began working in his brother’s pizzeria. Once taking over for his brother, Sal attended Culinary School. He graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education in 2003 and continued bringing the freshest ingredients and made to order dishes to his pizzeria on Steinway Street.
After vacationing in Arizona in 2000, Sal knew this was the place to raise his family. Sal moved his family to Arizona and opened Sal’s Gilbert Pizza in 2006. Over the last 7 years Sal and Grace have continuously provided the East Valley with fresh food from the finest ingredients in a friendly atmosphere.

Her “Happy Dance” is just the sweetest!!
I agree, Ranch dressing is not necessary if the Pizza is good.🍕

I agree with Sophie about not putting ranch dressing on pizza.

Ohhh YES she would probably love something like that!
There's a place just like Sal's here in Binghamton, where I often go - also called 'New York Pizzeria !😮' The other night just bought 2 plain pies for friends at Weis market. Agree with Sophia's happy dance, plain is best, maybe just comingled with favorite veg or beans, even black-eyed peas. Those 'knots must be soft enough for baby teeth. Glad they were exceptional. Above all, that joyous tidings are for il Cool Eats famiglia ! Keep on !
I missed lunch today. This made me hungry 🤤

Pizza looks delicious 😋 Plus those yummy garlic knots 👌😹🩷💙🌷
Those cookies look similar to Neemish tarts in Australia. It has a pastry base and has a thin layer of jam and a layer of mock cream covered with half chocolate and half white icing on top. Sometimes it’s pink and chocolate icing.
Those garlic knots look so delicious 🤤🤤 thank You for explaining what a black & white cookie is, I'm from Hawaii & always hear about them on TV but they never explain what it is... I always assumed they were like an Oreo 😅 Sophia's outfit is so cute!! That fur baby looked like it wanted so of Sophia's cookie 🐶

Sophia doesnt want any dressing on her pizza. She is a purist. Way to go!
Happy Dace, today, Wow! Really likes it, huh, Sophia! 🌸💖
It looks like you’re having fun. Have a great vacation!
Bonus ❤ for Sophia for not touching the ranch dressing! haha .. I run away from ranch dressing .. no no no
A real good slice 🍕 is one where the oil drips down your hand as you're eating
All that food looks so yummy❤
It looks like an amazing place with yummy garlic knots and pizza! Never heard of a black and white cookie and I want to try one now! 🖤🍕🤍
Sophia is entering the sassy stage 😂.
Pizza zag er heerlijk uit. Maar ook de koekjes!!!
I reckon "The Cool Eats" sums up your content nicely. Personally though I'm thinking this channel is more like "Toddler on fire"!

The best pizza I have ever had was in Chicago back in 94. We stopped to sleep at a hotel and got Domino’s pizza and it was amazing! I have never had another to this day that was as good as that pizza. Garlic knots are the bomb too. Thanks for sharing some of your vacation with us, I never get tired of seeing your family ❤

I think I read this wrong. Did you really say Domino's pizza was amazing? Where do you live? Nobody in New York would ever go to Domino's or Pizza Hut. Those are for the tourists that are afraid to try pizza from a name the never heard of.

@@tracygarrett3952 did you also read it was in 1994? It was very late and we had just got a hotel for the night. Where you eat from is none of my business nor do I care, I was sharing an experience I had. Thanks for your input though 😉
I think she prefers healthy food. She seemed to be much more enthusiastic about food when she was eating the amazing healthy diet about a year ago.
Know that place used eat there when I was going back I called it Gilbert AZ pizza garlic rolls was awesome good choice 👍🏻

❤❤❤❣ so yummy 😋
I agree with sophia, ranch is better on a specialty pizza, like pizza oven here in Canton has Bianco which is like olive oil and stuff and also in alfredo I think which is Alfredo sauce instead of regular. They Shred the sausage so you get it all over the pizza when you order. It's rectangular not circular so I'm not sure if that would make it New York style.
Awww.....
Leaders eat last... I still use that today! Baden Powell forever!
Hugging a slice of pizza! A FIRST!

Ya me dió hambre 😋
I also hug my pizza🤣
Love the longer versions of your IG videos that are posted here on YT. I guess I enjoy dressing on pizza, but only on the bits of crust that end up 'nekkid' - with no sauce or cheese. Then the ranch - or garlic Parm - or blue cheese dressing is excellent. Seems made for those poor plain baked bread chunks. Surprised that Sophia didn't have the ranch - she likes it with veggies, doesn't she? PS - does Sal bake all the desserts in house too?

She does like homemade ranch or tzatziki with greek yogurt - but she hasn’t had regular ranch that I can remember. This one was good, but not as thick as she has had before, so maybe that’s why. I forgot to ask them about the dessert - my guess is they do by the way they looked!

@@THECOOLEATS Oh, ANY dressing made with Greek yogurt is going to be better! Thicker, tangier. WAY better. I never follow the directions if they call for milk, buttermilk or mayo - I substitute plain Greek yogurt instead [or skyr now that I know about it from your videos]. No wonder Sophia prefers it. Smart kiddo.
I have yet to find an authentic New York style pizza here in Cleveland as good as back home.

Yeah….I would agree with you on that one! I haven’t found any near there either.
I understand her reluctance. The last time I had real New York pizza was in 1969. I have looked for something like it since.

We used to get huge slices of pizza for lunch in HS in the 70s so big it were larger than a paper plate for a dollar. Good times LONG gone

Which one is her favorite? Garlic knots or hush puppies? (I’m a fan of both!) Lots of GREAT, Hands Down from pretty Sophia in this video!! Dance on, little munchkin.

Ohhh I think maybe she liked those hush puppies more? Not sure though - every day she has a different food mood 😆
I'm from New York, and I've never heard about holding the pizza and if it doesn't fall, it's authentic or tasty. I actually believe quite opposite. You fold the pizza and the very tip of it starts to fall foward and that's the part you slurp into your mouth. It's too thin to stand up on it's own, so we fold it to give it strength to not just flop. Where do you buy pizza in New York?

My favorite place is Joe’s! And L’Industrie and Rosa’s Unside Down Sicilian - I love all pizza. There are tons of places that have the floppy tip, I agree. But that’s not my favorite kind. I love when it is like this!
