Thats a bass players curse. They just couldnt stop playing while someones talking. Doesnt matter where! on stage, rehersals, bathroom, library.. until you tell them “bruh” we need to hear each other
Right at the end of the interview ….”Once I slowed down-That’s when it happened.” I’m a shut in due to illness, in a small town with few musicians and even fewer opportunities to play with folks and my greatest insights wasn’t a scale, a chord formula or speed….it was time, economy and listening, not to what I wanted to hear but to where sound lead me. I slowed down and would hear the harmonic content of the note and that would lead me to new places. I began to hear what sound had to teach me. It’s a bit like learning the geography of music, the map of what you are capable of, giving insight for exploring past that. I really loved this in the moment revelation.

Big fan of his soulful playing ever since when he was around the Sacramento scene in the 90s when I was working with Robert Brookins and Wayman Tisdale.
He created that “Tony Tone Toni” sound. I always wished I could play rhythm guitar like that.🙏🏾❤️
The talent lies in your hands and your ears! There’s a whole shit ton of music out there - too much so to be closed minded. Great words Jubu!

Love to spend a day learning from Jubu.
That was amazing playing right there too
JuBu has established himself clearly as a voice to aspiring young guitar players most definitely! Howard Carroll did not need a Band but could carry the program, the group and the song on his back with no effort at all. I play too but have never seen a guy who was everything just on the guitar. Carroll was the man!!!!!
Did a gospel project for The Triumph Family, back in the 90s with Jubu. He was playing a Chet Atkinson Nylon string guitar. He sounded just as good, back then.
I could see in the studio and listen to Jubu play all day!!
Some guys have so much vibe you only have to listen to them strum a chord or play a few notes on their instruments before you recognize their extraordinary musicianship. This guy, is one of those guys.
Jubu… word… this Guy plays with a heart of gold…& he sounds like pure gold too…(especially on “Golden Time Of Day”)…. A real kool cat

Well said. As a drummer I've learned it's more important to know music besides just the drum parts. Understand chord structure and simple song structure like what is the chorus? what is the bridge? where's the turnaround after the bridge? Understanding those simple elementary things will help you in communication with your band tremendously and they will appreciate it. Plus some of my major influences on the drums are not drummers such as Jaco Pastorius... James Brown... Jimi... Like you said step outside of your Box and sponge.
Thanks for that knowledge! Man… The playing at about 3:05ish is just beautiful- ❤️

good advices
Good stuff right there
This man is real good I’m have to replay this video so I can get it down
I told this young guy the other day that wanted to learn how to play guitar to learn quartet and he looked at me crazy. I didn't even explain why. I just let him have it. Quartet music will get you right on the guitar especially because they had to fill a lot of time with just a bass and a guitar. They had to carry the rhythm and lead.
Wow great soul
it's the hybrid picking for me man. finna work on that even more now
Smooth...
