The crew were talking about why they made Zahra be the one to spawn the monster and they were saying that instead of just randomly happening along monsters in the show they like to tie them to character and story. So they found it more interesting if Zahra would release it and it get out of her control than to just happen upon a beholder type monster in the tomb.

Eh.....I don't' like it myself. I was really on board with the alternate history they came up with for Z, Kash and the Slayers' Take up to this point, but I have some major problems with the characterization here. For one, it feels weird that Zahra was the one who had the history with Vex but it's Kash who was like "No, we have to help save her." Not only that, but Zahra was actively saying things like: "It's no use, she's gone, there's no point." That just feels backwards, and it could've been a good moment to endear them both to the audience, despite the shady shit they had pulled up until that point and were still going to. For another, I also thought it was weird that Kash got bothered by the Be Roper fight at all. Zahra straight up told him that they'd just wait for it to petrify everyone and then take the Vestige and he didn't voice a complaint. Then he gets bothered about the thing doing what Zahra said it would do for some reason? If they'd established a danger from shattering the petrified members of VM it would be one thing, but as is even if it petrifies all of them that wouldn't hurt them. So there isn't a clear reason for him to decide "Okay, this is too far." I think a better way to set up this fight would've been if either they'd seen drawings of the thing in the fresh blood earlier on (which establishes the fish Be Roper cult that was in the stream, and even gives a reason why so many of them are gathered in the temple: it's for their god thing, plus adds foreshadowing) or have Zahra just straight up tell them they can't keep the Vestige without proving their worth and then unleashing the monster on them. Then it's only when Vax starts kicking its ass by himself that they're like "Oh damn, he _is_ worthy." and start fixing everybody and helping with the fight. Or you know, some other way. It just felt like a sort of artificial conflict and drama build up that was not needed at best, and hurt Zahra's character at worst.

@@belindaluna2067 TO BE FAIR. Kash seems to be a paladin, and irreguardless of it all, he might have just felt this surge of morality and a line he can't cross... whether he was friends with vex and crew was irrelevant... Z having a background with Vex, and if Vex screwed her over in her mind, it wont stop her from hesitating. also i havent watched the campaign (saving it) but i heard that having Z get it from the locket instead of stumbling on it was also a good way to get trinket in the show this time more casually than just drawing him in the background or explaining how they reunited with him every time a town got hit etc.. which is something that im on board with

@@belindaluna2067 Worked okay for me. I can see Zahra's point. First of all, the worst that would happen is that the monster petrifies them, which Kash can fix. She puts the monster back in the locket and everything is fine. Given what she knows about Vax & Vex (that they're untrustworthy thieves) they shouldn't be allowed to make off with a Vestige. Assuming they're "unworthy" (which is a fair assumption from what she knows about them) they're just going to sell it off and put it out there in the world, where it will eventually fall into the wrong hands. Way better to yoink it from them and keep it safe for Osysa. I think this episode just failed to communicate her perspective to the audience. Anybody who goes "against" the protagonists of the show is likely to be disliked, unless they have a big redemption arc. Or unless you think about where she's coming from.

@@elbruces I don't have that big a problem with her throwing the monster at them. Like I said, it was obvious the petrification didn't hurt them. What bothers me is that, despite that, it bothered Kash for reasons that weren't exactly clear. Mostly I don't like that it was ineffectively used to drum up conflict between the two that felt contrived and unneeded. Plus her pulling that makes everyone ending things on good terms later feel kind of unrealistic. As I said, I think it would've made more sense if she'd been upfront with them about what she was doing, why she was doing it, and that the creature's abilities wouldn't permanently hurt them. This gives VM more leeway to not be mad at her later, especially after they all come to and see how powerful the Vestige really is when Vax is using it to basically fight the thing they were all struggling with together by himself. And I would've had her begrudgingly encouraging Kash to try to the ritual, maybe while warning VM that it was unlikely to work and this was why they shouldn't have come down there looking for the Vestige. Telling them that they're in over their heads and if they'd faced that fact earlier Vex wouldn't have gotten hurt. (Which makes what Vax does with the armor later on all the more satisfying.)

I think the reason it works for me is because, unlike the original campaign, the group has no connection with Zahra and Kash, just the twins and the twins basically screwed over the Slayer's Take and didn't stick around to pay it back, which is PERFECTLY in character with pre-Vox Machina Vex and Vax. Up until they became a group and started working together, the twins were solely focused on themselves and cared very little for anyone else's shit. They were very much out for themselves. When VM and Zahra originally met, there was tension that wasn't broken until Zahra and Vex sat down and shared stories about their shitty fucking parents, and they weren't on totally friendly terms until they slayed a white dragon together. In THIS telling of events, Zahra and Vex never had that conversation, the twins killed their bounty and fucked off with the rewards, and thus the last thing Zahra knew was that they were untrustworthy.

A "first look" deal basically means that when a creator comes up with something for a show/film, the ones they have a deal with have the opportunity to say they will make it or not before it can be shopped around to other distributors. In CR's case, if they made a film for something like Calamity, they'd present it to Amazon first, then if Amazon passed they could see if anyone else was interested.

Wendy asked about the bright yellow tether between Vax and Vex being severed by the Matron of Ravens (ie the Raven Queen). Think about that next time you watch the intro. A raven flies over and shoots out bright yellow tethers to each member of Vox Machina. Also, the Matron of Ravens despises *all* undead, not just liches. Undeath is a perversion of the natural order which she upholds. So any kind of undead or necromancy are unwanted in her eyes.

The twin emotional connection wasn't changed by this. Those threads are different than emotional connections. With just this short intro to Kasha, and the episode not focusing on him, it feels like it would be too much to get into his "god". Plus his "god" sounds like an evil death god and I think it would have been confusing, while also introducing the Matron of Ravens as a death god. Two death gods in one episode it too much for the condensed version of their campaign in this show.

For anyone interested in the mechanics of the Vestiges of Divergence, since Dustin mentioned that they "power up." In Matt's D&D books, they have 3 stages. They all begin as "dormant" +1 magic items, then they can become "awakened" where their bonuses are bumped to +2, and they acquire new abilities. Finally, they can reach "exalted," where they become +3 legendary items, with a slew of powerful abilities and buffs. In the scene where Vax is fighting Purvan, he accepts his death and succeeds the test. The Matron then appears and touches the armor, alighting it with runes. This is the armor moving into its "awakened" state.

I believe that the reason Vax keeps having these visions, in this episode and beyond, is that the Matron of Ravens has a feeling about what is coming and needs to address Vax personally, something that is difficult without him being in an actual, functioning temple. While yes, the Tomb of Purvan Suul was her domain(which I believe is confirmed to be why Kash's Revivify NEEDED the full ritual rather than just the DC check, despite it being for a quick resurrection), it is not a temple where it is much easier for the gods to have a slightly more direct interaction with their followers(hence why Pike had to journey to a temple of the Everlight to talk directly to her in S1).

We'll see if they do the whole awakening quest or not. It would be a lot to cram into just one season. Spoilers: Since we already know how this season goes, by the end they'll still have 3 or 4 vestiges, 3 dragons, and possibly Ripley, left to fight. That's a lot for 12 episodes. So I think they'll skip "awakening" the vestiges.

She explained how much there was to watch and how it might be easiest to skip C1 and start C2 to catch up with the live shows then go back to C1 if you become starved for content. Which I did. I started C2 Ep1 March 2020 while CR was on their covid hiatus. I had just left my job due to how my company was treating covid and not taking it serious enough. I started watching multiple 4 hour episodes a day. I was able to catch up and finish episode 99 the day before CR came back from their covid hiatus with their new distancing protocols. And there are some new bits that take us off the grid so that we can't predict everything. I still think it has worked out beautifully and I'm sat here waiting for next Friday when the last 3 episodes air.

Season 4 would probably be the Taryon arc, while season 5 would be the Vecna arc, but in all seriousness they could split the last arc into two seasons as well

I love how you`re incorpopating clips from the campaign into your reaction! I have an impression that Kashaw here doesn`t have his backstory with this wife at all, and if it`s the case, I`m happy to see him more relaxed and positive. But I wonder if they *will* tell us his story. You`re remember correctly the story with Purvan`s wolf :3 The negotiations with the wolf were amazing on the stream

I think they indicated in one of the watch-alongs they dropped Kash's wife/mentions with Will's agreement because of how creepy/dubcon some of it is, and to streamline the story.

Gonna have a not a spoiler but something you just gained context for this episode after a bunch of skips but also on the wolf I love that the matron of RAVENS lead a champion with a WOLF. When in real life wolves and ravens team up for hunts sometimes. Now that you have seen the golden thread tied to the Matron of RAVENS rewatch the opening for each episode. The theme song part not each episodes part before the song.

I was so happy when I saw that Vex came back to life. I figured she would, but still, I was so happy that she wasn’t dead. Even though I’ve seen all of the other episodes, I’m still very curious about the raven girl and the raven girl and the armor. I loved seeing the flashback with Vax and Vex finding Trinket, it was very sad but cute. I also enjoyed the comedy in this episode. I was also very shocked at the end of the episode to see Anna, definitely wasn’t expecting it.

The monster was so cool!! They did fight a beholder in the tomb but can't use a beholder in this show. In the watch party they called it a “onlooker”. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZHiLvLFmepfgoNY.html

So in the original campaign they actually did fight a beholder in Purvaan's tomb. But with the beholder being an owned property of D&D and wanting to have this be all their own thing, it got switched to the beholder-esque type creature instead.
