Quick note, pike didn't cast cure wounds on Gilmore. She cast Heal, the 6th level spell, which is insane for a dnd party to use such magic on an npc. For Gilmore, though, it was necessary as he is so amazing!

It's just about having players who are invested in the story rather than the gameplay. If you build up NPCs well, they end up being just like another extension of the party, and the party cares about them as such

Got to say, that pouch that Vax picks up is *exactly* what I pictured when Matt described the sleeve containing the Deck of Many Things.

The spell Allura used to pull down Umbrasyl was most likely Earthbind. It’s described as bands of energy pulling a flying creature to the ground.

I also think Kima used Destructive Wave (choosing not to include her allies, as part of the spell obv) as that would be a big boom spell... if Raishan hadn't passed the CON Save :|

Matt NPC is the Where's Waldo of each episode. An apt comparison as some are more easily found than others.

Also liked, that Raishans first actual words towards the group in the series where taken one to one from the stream. "delicious cattle. Raishan enjoys the taste of fear"

Random body parts (past their expiration dates) in the bag of holding was one of my favorite recurring jokes in Campaign 1

That was exactly my first thought with Thordak: "Oh fuck, thats Godzilla himself with wings" :O

As far as the Raven Queen sightings, while she doesn’t show up till the bargain I took it as Vax ‘seeing death,’ given how how many people were lost during the Conclave’s initial attack.

@@sammiehopkins9408 Nice! You can do that kind of stuff when you write a script on a story that has already been told, like the C1 Campaign. Since they know how it went down, they can add foreshadowing. It always pissed me off that there were some people who insisted CR was scripted.

I really think A Bard's Lament will be the closing of this season. After all in the trailer we can briefly see Scanlan playing in a tavern along some musicians and a gnomish violinist.

The last episode in the season is titled something along the lines of “the hope devourer” I believe. That means it would stand to reason this season will end with the defeat of umbrasyl and the party in possession of about half of the vestiges that they will get. My best bet is that scene is the point when scanlan is meeting Kaylie (I think that is the spelling) for the first time, and that a bard’s lament would be at the very end of season three

He talked about the Rakshasa around the campfire in S1 on the way to Whitestone. It's coming.

When I first saw that in S1 I thought that meant we wouldn’t have the gotcha moment, but it makes as much sense for him to come back for revenge even if his defeat was somewhat off screen

I certainly hope so. The scene where the Rakshasa reveals himself is something I'd love to see animated.

I like how they depicted the Hold Monster spell as I hope they use something similar in a certain fight in Westruun. Also liked Vex holding onto Keyleth during the "Door scene". Think that pouch Vax grabbed is a deck of many things. It is criminal you do not have more subscribers, these videos are always very well done and always point out something I missed.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that "satchel" holds a mysterious deck that can do many different things and will be there to set up certain events to come for later down the road.

The arrows was a nod to something Matt said after the campaign about certain inventory management. Saying something close to, "at some point we just had vex buy like 10000 arrows so she wouldn't have to worry about it".

Very cool detailed video, looking forward to seeing the rest of the episodes broken down like this! One note: I think the first city where the campaign started wasn't Westruun, but Stilben. It's where the VM Origin comics started and where we see how they met (first scene is the twins meeting Keyleth).

This episode gives a new meaning to "Starting out with a BANG!".

Neah that is a single target stone....

The rakshasa would be awesome, especially as it sets up the trip to hell between the conclave and Vecna arcs but it only took on the form of Gilmore to kill Vax specifically because he killed it in the trial for the slayers take, without that motivation it doesn't seem likely to happen without some story changes. Also just speculating but given that Vorugal wasn't sent to Draconia it's likely that there won't be a Draconia. The tree portal fall scene was also moved from Draconia to Vasselheim which may point to the same conclusion.

about the rakshasa, Vax mentions in season one that his best kill was that same creature. maybe they'll use that to explain the Gilmore impersonation, or not. the Draconia thing is kind of muddy waters given that there's no mention or scene of dragonborn, maybe due to copyright issues -same reason they didn't use a beholder. that would explain why the broom was recuperated from Gilmore's and not stolen from Glenn. we'll see

@@DubhMornie I think the broom was from Gilmore rather than Gern Blanston because Gern was originally created by Chris Hardwick. Several members of the cast are friends with his ex, Chloe Dykstra, who accused him of abuse.

You strike a really good balance between showing the important changes without worrying about every minute differences from the live play sessions. Also luv those times you say you "stretch". Another broom related thing, I think there was some minor foreshadowing at its purpose during the teleport to grayskull, with Scanlan falling after everyone else. It could also be a distance thing, given that he was kinda pulled along.

In the original stream, we don't find out Uriel's fate until his family tells them at Gilmore's. The "Percy's Arm" Easter Egg comes from a one-off line from Sam in the finale of the original campaign because of Grog's idiotic decision to draw a card. ("Percy lost an ARM!") Matt decided to make it canon. I'm convinced that the end of season stinger is when the party meets with "Seeker Assum" and is presented with options.

This was really good. Looking forward to any new episodes! Just subbed.

Kind of wish Scanlan had grabbed a certain carved piece of ivory, but maybe they'll have Vex pick it up somewhere so she has something to trade Scanlan for the broom. Or we just won't get it, it is kind of a broken spell anyway

Pretty sure Allura was using Earthbind to bring down Umbrasyl, not Hold Monster.

Two details that you touched on BUT missed: 1) Cree Summer voices Raishan and Raishan killed Uriel ... but Cree also voiced Uriel's wife Salda! 2) Percy's left hand was melted by acid here, but it was the hand that was blown up in the Season 1 finale. NOTE that Percy will be seen nursing this hand in S2E3 ala MCU Tony Stark

the grog voiceline you mentioned about 8 minutes in is actually from the fight later on against Grog's Uncle (cant rememebr the name) where Grog goes 1 on 1 gets his ass kicked then calls in Vox Machina for backup. its the fight for the Titan Stone Knuckles

I paused the video and took me a good 3 minutes until I realized what you meant about Percy's arm before you showed the clip LOL

Um, actually...seeing through an illusion spell requires an intelligence check, not a wisdom saving throw.

I feel like Allura's protection spell was more likely Wall of Force cast as a dome, because Globe of Invulnerability wouldn't have stop the dying guard from passing through, since it only blocks magic, not physical objects.

It wasn’t a “teleportation crystal” (which doesn’t exist) it was something WAY cooler. It was unrefined residuum! Gilmore used the residuum as a component to cast teleport. Residuum can be used in place of any component, but it’s extremely rare, which is why Gilmore didn’t want to waste it.

That may verywell be the "Deck of Many Things" Grog will play around...

For the pouch, I think it’s a haversack; you see Vex pull out the broom out several time out of a similar pouch in later episodes (5&6 notably).

They confirmed the cat person being based on Sung Jin Ahn's cat in the watchparty!

The first campaign starts with the episode called "Arrival at Kraghammer", its a little confusing because it picks up with them seemingly in the middle of the story, because in a way they are. That episode is the first one they ever streamed, but they had been playing the campaign just as a group of friends well before that. So it takes a second to get acclimated to all of the characters and the production quality is really rough as they learn what they're doing, but its worth it imo. However, if you want to test the waters to see if you enjoy it period, I'd recommend starting with the first episode of either Campaign 2 (now completed) or Campaign 3 (currently ongoing) because they both start right at the start of the characters' journeys and the production value is massively improved. I hoped this helped, let me know if you have any other questions!

I'm under the belief that the "Hold Monster" spell may have infact been "Earthbind", it's not yellow but it does mention loops in the description of the spell.

I would put money on the thought that Scanlan leaving will happen next season, there's just too much to put in this one. MAYBE he meets his daughter, but I think they'll round out around episode 8 with the Kevdak fight, and fight Umbrassyl in the season 2 finale.

In the trailer, we see Scanlan on stage with Doctor Dranzel's band, so pretty sure we'll meet her. I really hope we get a season 4, because if they only get to Umbrassyl in this season (which I agree), that's a lot to cram into the next season.

@@cryofpaine I'm thinking that if there's a chance they're doing the Bard's Lament at the end of this season, they'll throw meeting Dranzel into Westruun, which would allow Scanlan to meet his daughter, get even more worked up about this whole fighting dragons thing, almost die/die and be resurrected fighting Umbrassyl, and leave as the last scene of season 2, allowing Tary to join in the opening of season 3, allowing things to feel like time has passed.

​@@MorningDusk7734 Possible, but I doubt it. That's way too much to cram into one season. And they don't get anything from it story wise. Scanlan leaving after the Raishan fight makes sense dramatically. The evil has been thwarted, there's no danger looming on the horizon, they save Scanlan from death, and everyone breathes a collective sigh of relief, then wham! He hits you right in the feels when you least expect it. That's when it works best dramatically.

I'm not sure they're going to do the Raksasha bit again. Remember that in season 1 they had the time around the campfire where they were talking about their most epic kill, and Vax already went over the kill. Still a great catch on that banner!

that makes ya wonder, which dragon you would rather Prefer die to, LOL. I would want Ice, death is Instant , the Rest lets you feel it. Love the new season. What a Start!!!

So Matt mentioned in the round table with Brennan and Aabria that they actually started in Stilben.

The troll dick in season one is one of the few things that made it out of the collapsing cavern with them. They show it getting put in the bag of holding.

We're likely not going to get the Rakshasa because they already showed something very similar in season 1. When VM was around the fire on their way to Whitestone and were sharing "Cool Kills" stories. It's where they gave a nod to the first arc of the campaign with the underdark and all. I would absolutely love to have the rakshasa come back and do what it does - but I'm not holding my breath.

Is the satchel the deck of cards?
