Less talkin', more rockin' ; )
No savegames used, chose the risky approach and it paid off : )
... thankfully in some gameplays the RNGems align good enough to skip going all around the forest (not to mention back through the bridge cave) ; also, luckily didn't kill myself in the caverns tho it was close :D
Played on ScummVM 2.1 beta. Walk speed set to fastest, voice disabled (text only), text speed fast.
Holding Escape key used to skip dialogues and scenes (VERY helpful), along with left mouseclick bound to mousewheel.
On a final note - love this game, it truly belongs to the golden age. Both the graphics and music (Frank Klepacki FTW!) are outstanding, the climate/atmosphere and sound effects are great, the story, even if somewhat short, is also really nice : ) Heavily recommended to play fully.. especially, as it turned out, it's possible to find out new things even after those years (mostly near the end of the game) : )

    The fire berry cave gave nightmares back in the day. This game was brutal.

    No man, it isn't, I've had a goood couple of gameplays before that (that one on the vid was from restart where, IIRC, diamond was the second), and actually having topaz in the inventory means it's very probable for it to be the third gem. Looks like it's strategic enough (forcing us to either catch emerald mid-caves, or to find another topaz), since ONLY those two gems go along with tulip to make a yellow potion.

    Thanks for the info man. In the tests I made, I noticed diamond-topaz OR aquamarine-topaz happening from time to time, so I just went with it on instinct when I had them (I think diamond-topaz happened in EssEffGee's run) and it actually fired away, although there has been combinations where I either didn't find those on my way (probably were in the first forest) or the gems used were entirely different, IIRC using opal for example.

    Hey, just to chime in on this comment thread (I'm someone from EssEffGee, for what it's worth), I seem to get Diamond-Topaz more often than not. Like, I once got it 5 times in a row. There's got to be some kind of pattern as to what gems the RNG picks, but I'm not entirely sure what. Also, I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm running the GoG version.

    It's true, game seems to randomize way less (at least when it comes to the combination itself ; the placement is always tricky) after the first time the gems are discovered, I've ran some tests just now and it seemed like it's the same every time (however the combination was sapphire-garnet.. funny enough, I think Bigmanjapan got the very same combo in his run), probably more testing would result in a different combination like it did before, but it sure gets more stable.
