Legally Blonde just doesn't age somehow, it is one of those frothy but enduring madcap comedies that is just classic. This scene is so weirdly wonderful!
Shouldn't they be more amendable with him marrying Elle because she;s very sociable (can help with the election and votes), plus likeable (again, for votes), and she's wealthy, her family most likely has tons of connections in the business community (which can fund his election campaign). This came out 20years ago and still looks kinda fab
I like how Elle would not have got in the car if it wasn't for her shoes. Caring for your valuables while hurting over a break-up are different things which CAN coexist. Besides he was in the wrong here, she is free to make her choices and she did by caring for her safety and shoes 😂 This only goes on show that she loves herself more which eventually culminated in her amazing character growth that we saw later.
I know that cry I did it when my ex broke up with me on my birthday date. His parents had no idea and were still cheering me on in school (PA school and he is from a line of doctors) found out they chewed him out especially since I was "the kind of people they wanted in their family"

@ionabab7274
Жыл бұрын
This is all really true, but at the risk of sounding like “that guy”, that’s not the male gaze. The male gaze usually refers to objectification of women in media like film. Examples would be things like unnecessarily zooming in a women’s body, or putting the female characters in non-practical and out-of-character revealing outfits etc. Sorry if I sounded rude, it just kinda bugs me when people use phrases incorrectly. I guess a better way to phrase it might be “she escaped becoming a ‘trophy wife’”.
@jennifermarie3158
Жыл бұрын
@@ionabab7274 Though there's better phrasing that what either of you have offered up, I'd say that Baleria's use of "the male gaze" is better than the way you have suggested to make the point because it alludes to a the larger systemic pattern of women being positioned to be object or accessory to a man rather than being an agent in themselves, whereas your phrase, "trophy wife," merely describes a one off colloquial trope (also it's not applicable here, since Warner wanted a smart girl). Indeed, the concept of "the male gaze" is used to describe the gendered ways of looking built into cinema/media as you explained, but the point of the concept is to demonstrate how the gaze in media is a manifestation of larger patriarchal structures of identification and objectification in society. Thus it's not a stretch to extend the male gaze to societal dynamics as well. Again, it's probably not the wording I would use, but it's not actually incorrect and is more suitably complex and nuanced than the alternative you offered up. Just FYI. If you're going to be that pedantic, at least be right. Lol. Normally I wouldn't waste my time on this discussion, but I actually enjoy telling a pedantic know-it-all off.

Little did Warner know that his next girlfriend would break up with HIM. And that his two ex-girlfriends would become Best Friends Forever.
The way she whines is both hilarious and piteous at the same time.
Funny thing, Elle goes to become the Woman Warner wants to marry. Only to find out, the moment she becomes that Woman, that Warner is not the type of man that Elle wants to marry. This is a really big lesson, first off don’t lead someone on until you get to know them and they are the type of person you want to marry. Also, Warner knew he would not succeed without marrying the type of Woman he wanted to Marry. Maybe if Warner would’ve stayed with Elle and even talked her in joining him in Law School without pressuring her to, maybe they would’ve ended up getting married
How could you do that to her, Warner?! She didn’t deserve to get dumped cause of what you think of her! I’m glad Elle regretted him at the end of the movie
