It makes me laugh when pollies say it’s a gate way, I tell you now alcohol was a bigger gateway for me that weed ever was. When I used to drink I didn’t care how my behaviour made people feel, and when I was drunk I wanted to take other drugs because my rational thinking was thrown out the door. I haven’t drunk for 6 years now and weed has changed my life bigtime. I’m a lot more calmer, my family have noticed the positive change in me. It just makes me happy, period. When I drunk I didn’t want to do nothing, when I smoke I love going to the park with my family. It’s been given a bad name for way to long, it’s time Australian government wakes up to it. Peace ✌🏽

Cannabis is not alcohol. The preponderance of the research shows cannabis consumption is NOT a significant cause of auto accidents. In 2015, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, found that while drunken driving dramatically increased the risk of getting into an accident, there was no evidence that using cannabis heightened that risk. In fact, the report found that drivers who had recently consumed cannabis were no more likely to crash than drivers who were not under the influence of any alcohol or drugs.

I recently got a script for medical cannabis for my chronic sleep problems and the results so far are great. The driving laws in most states including NSW where I'm from are so punishing for people who use cannabis since they only test for presence of THC. Fortunately I only drive a couple times a week since I'm WFH or take public transport to the office when I need to but I feel sympathy for those who have to drive and are on medication. I can see from a policy making perspective that cannabis testing for driving impairment is difficult since THC levels is less predictable than alcohol when it comes to impairing cognition, judgment, and reactions. I don't think there are any roadside test which give reliable results for THC concentration in the body anyway which suggests sobriety/impairment test is the way to go.

I'll be honest here. I went through a rough phase in my life after losing a close pet, a girlfriend and then my job going down the shitter. I turned to cannabis and ended up smoking it almost nightly for 6 months. This was problematic but the fact I was able to stop cold turkey and the worst withdrawal symptom was mild insomnia for a couple weeks goes to show that even when moderately abused, your body can bounce back virtually back to normal. The same simply cannot be said for other "legal" substances like tobacco and alcohol. It's time to legalise it at the federal level and create a regulated, taxed industry.

@@allan-jamesehsman298 It is more expensive but I'd rather go through proper channels given the nature of my job in the public health sector. I know what I'm getting is going to be consistent to treat my condition and I don't have to worry about losing my job when undergoing drug testing since everything I'm doing is legal.

People won't mind there buisness and make a profit out of the stalking and harassment of certain police. Does anyone think that if someone wanted to be a police officer that they would be turned off because they smoked a joint every four months.

I'm 66, and I've smoked cannabis since boarding school in London early seventies. Cigarettes since age 11. Of all the mood, mind altering drugs, cannabis is the least damaging. But don't forget inhaling the smoke of any burning vegetable matter, year in, year out, is not going to give you sparkling pink lungs. Vaping perhaps, I dunno. Oh, and I hate to be a grumpy old man, but it does compliment an extremely sedentary lifestyle. For someone prone to addiction, such as myself, cannabis is just a sacrifice i have to take. After all, it's not addictive right? For the neuro typical, go for it! Wipe out the glamour and crime fukrying out loud!

It's great that (commercial) mainstream media are giving more airtime for this cause. A major point in concern as Michael raised multiple times, is the fact that our laws regarding driving are well overdue for an overhaul, one for fairness and accuracy. It's like people being charged for drink driving on a Tuesday when they had a big night on the Saturday.. totally unfair and inaccurate. Also, The Project could lay off the 'stoner' sterotypes with all the clips thrown in. This only perpetuates the age old- lazy stoner kid ideology.
