Legal loophole makes cross border mingling a walk in the park

A U.S. immigration lawyer says a 205-year-old treaty is giving Canadians free access to the American side of Peace Arch Historical State Park - despite a park closure aimed to prevent the spread of coronavirus across the border.

Rebecca Galvan I’m happy that your fiancé and you will reunite soon. My fiancé will fly from Toronto in October for my bday. Ignore the negative comments, not all of us Americans are out partying like many ppl believe. I only see my friends if it’s at an outdoors setting and I limited my time with my older parents. It’s really hard not being with my man, but we have to stay strong and stay safe so we can get thru this pandemic. We both have great partners... look at the hoops they are willing to go thru just to come be with us Love is ESSENTIAL ❤️❤️❤️

Why can't the United States and Canada agree to a buffer zone for lack of a better word I can think of say 10 Mile each side of the Border. In which Canadians and Americans both can be in this Zone and that would give people access or maybe one day reach some sort of a tree where are US citizens Canadian citizens can travel freely in each country. It works in Europe

A Schengen-type treaty between the US and Canada would allow free roaming at least of US and Canadian citizens. It works very well in Europe. As a German citizen i have no problems to travel to the Netherlands for a day trip without passport and border check.

@@victorortizwuellmann474 Yes, the US side has always been open. They will need to cross the ditch at 171 Street and 0 Avenue in Surrey, and you can meet them there on the US side. However your friend, since they are crossing an international border, will need some proof of citizenship. Either a passport, NEXUS, birth certificate, or citizenship card. I brought my birth certificate and they said that was fine.
