Just a straight up remaster would be perfect! Don't touch the voice work, don't touch the character design, levels or story, just make it pretty on modern systems. (I wouldn't trust today's game studios with a full "remake", they'd mutilate it.)

well, i think god of war holds up pretty well, though invoking a totally different kind of feelings throughout it's narrative. but thenagain, that series started in 2005 which is 13 years ago as from today, so it also isn't a recent creation. games today are more focused on graphics than everything else. generating profit by feeding the kids graphically high-end games instead of letting the writers and artisans in gamestudios envision their ideas is what makes game publishers today the enemies of gamers who are interested in deeper and more meaningful content than just visuals.

Literally fell in love with Raziel when I saw a screenshot of this game on the back of a PlayStation magazine. I made up a story in my head that he was some sort of prince. A few years later, I'm shopping at HEB with my mom and in the toy aisle, there is a Raziel action figure. I convince my mom to buy me the figure and also one of Kain. I loved them so much (And she loved me so much) that she bought me 2 of each over time. One set that I could play with, one set that's still in the box. One day at the local video/game rental place, I happened to notice the titles of one of the series, "Legacy of Rain". Turns out it was BO2, but over time I found my way to this game and it has been my favorite ever since.

The legacy of kain is personally I consider the video game to have the best story-line ever. It is probably the only story-line from a video game that has kept me puzzled in understanding it. This puzzlement lead me to doing a lot of research on the to grasp the meaning behind the game. The central themes so far I've understood in the series are fatalism, man's struggle for free will and some gnosticism. Also discovering that Raziel draws from Joseph Campbell ideas. The storyline for me personally is a great work of literature.

tarek baziz probably, but there's a lot of support for Gnosticism. Gnosticism describes a collection of ancient religions whose adherents shunned the material world created by the demiurge and embraced the spiritual world. In Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, Amy Hennig identified "the question of free will in a universe apparently ruled by fate" as the core of the story. Gnosticism, in which "the material world is an illusion, a lie perpetrated by a false and malignant god whose aim is to keep the human soul in darkness and ignorance" and the hero's goal is "knowledge, enlightenment, and the exposure of the truth", helped to formulate Raziel's arc

You just can`t imagine Legacy of Kain without its soundtrack. It just doesn`t hold together. Is just as if the whole soundtrack made the whole world of nosgoth "real". It gives it his life, or death. Which is just amazing and something videogames today still struggle to achieve.

I just wanted the tone of the Phantom Menace to be a bit more serious and aimed towards more mature themes.

Now we get to episode 2 and 3 where all kinds of limbs and heads are being chopped off lol. Anakin even force chokes his sweet pregnant wife. After killing younglings. The biggest issue was the tone, target audience and lack of a clear protagonist. Obiwan should have been the main protagonist throughout 1 to 3. The fall of Anakin through the eyes of his teacher, friend and father figure makes the journey more emotional.

Exactly Mikele, I've just started to write a storyline for a new game and have a few people who want to focus on "reaching the most people". The focus can't be about money. The greats (like the original star wars) never worried about putting shitty characters in there like jarjardinks just to appease a certain age group and destroy the franchise. I think all of my media favorites (game/video) follow that rule.

@theunbearableman I will say: The game mechanics of that genre would translate pretty well to updating LOK and Soul Reaver into the modern era. Keep the core of the original mechanics (puzzles, world shifting, etc) and just give it a modern shine... i'd buy it twice. The original games weren't easy or forgiving, but they were beatable; so a "dark souls-like game" might work out well. Think of Darksiders 3's difficulty. That's palatable to someone like me who loves the story but doesn't want to have to git gud to see it through.

***** Are you saying Legacy of Kain games are farm fests? Are we even talking about the same thing or did I misread?

I think he wants to say that today game industry is focused on fast farming games instead of games like Soul Reaver which is sad

I see this game for the first time when i was 6 yeas old, i remember to see my father playing and i was like "omg, this is a masterpiece", i actually felt afraid, but i had a fixation in this game, when i was sleep i aways dremed with the game, with that universe, but in the dream a don't be afraid. later in my life eu played this game many and many times. Today, i'm 27 and still come here to listen to this masterpiece and i still dream with this universe today. i don't know how i feel about this game, becouse i can't explane but i love what i feel. (forgive my english, i'm not native)

I would say this game needs a remake, but it would hard to even match the incredable voice talent they summoned for their game.

A remaster would be better use the same music voice acting with a pretty new skin on top.

Still here in 2021 waiting for my dude Raziel to get the remake he deserves! Soul Reaver still has one of my favorite soundtracks to this day

I was never able to beat this game. I played when I was like 4 or 5 years old. Something always felt special about this game. I didn't freakin' understand the plot and I got stuck right before Melchiah. Years later I played Soul Reaver 2 on PS2 and my dad returned it because he hated the slowness of the cutscenes and thought it was SOO boring. Fast forward to my teens and I buy them both for my self again. I was still having a hard time figuring out what to do but I finally beat them. To say the least, it's impressive how much detail they put into the lore of this world. In the first Soul Reaver when you first get introduced to the fast travel system, Raziel explains it so eloquently! As a child I wasn't even aware of fast travel systems in games so how could I possibly understand the purpose of those portals in the way they're introduced?! 🤣 Just wow! Even fast traveling is a purposeful thing! It's a shame the fourth game got canceled. It was looking really good. They had all of the Eidos devs working on it and then traded that project in favor for the online PvP game. I hope this series somehow continues in the future.

I love the mythos of this series, and the metaphor of life and existence it discusses. This will stick with me to the end.

this game is only for adventures lover, my friends used to love football games and i was seriously sick of that, they used to watch me playing Soul Reaver and they were almost surprised by the puzzles in the game....the game makers are really geniuses .

well.. to be fair, most puzzles were cube-puzzles, so nothin extrordinary there, but how they made the whole ambiente and everything was so stunning at that time

2021 Just finished for the first time, the sense of exploration and adventure is unmatched by recent games ( only dark souls series can compete with soul reaver), the story is great , the soundtrack is legendary, Raziel and Kain are as charismatic as they come, definitely a masterpiece. Play the Dreamcast version, you´ll get the ultimate experience out of it.
