    Remember in Soul Reaver1 Elder god tells Raziel after vampire souls adapt to the spectral realm they become eaters of souls. Which is basically elder god telling on himself that he did not make Raziel but that Raziels transition into a soul Reaver was a natural occurrence. However Raziel didn't pick up on that until he states in soul Reaver 2 that he suspects the elder god just took advantage of him when he first woke up in the spirit world. And goes on to declare the elder god a spooling parasite nestled deep in the heart of the world

    @Shendu LordOfDragons In the spectral realm when Raziel attacks them they lose their ability to effect things; they become more like ghosts than spectral monsters. So, their souls don't naturally go into the wheel of fate and given enough time they get their power back by devouring souls. Raziel kills them by weakening them to this point and then consuming their soul, effectively killing them.

    @Shendu LordOfDragons The video doesn't say they were immortal. He did say that vampires didn't work the same way that normal souls did in relation to the wheel of fate.That in itself was not about vampires become soul wraiths but over the fact that after they died the would reanimate their old bodies now as vampires.

If ever a remakes NEEDED to be created, it's this. This needs to be remade scene for scene, area by area, mechanic by mechanic to lose NO parts, in modern tech with next-gen graphic and 3d modeling.

    He didn't evolve while he was dead. Raziel's spirit grew more powerful with age while he was a vampire, and the Elder God tried to take credit for the natural processes that turned him into a wraith once his physical body was destroyed. Raziel was too developed to swallowed like other souls, and so he was treated like the other vampire wraiths and turned into a servant of the Elder God. Raziel was older, purer, and more evolved than any other vampire that had turned into a wraith, meaning that he retained more of his features and personality in the spirit realm and was a lot harder to kill.

    @DeadmaN-2112

    I absolutely agree with the idea that he did not evolve and instead only got more powerful. The part you're all over looking here is Raziel was never a part of the wheel because he was a vampire. Vampirism denied the spirit the ability of death and rebirth. The elder god simply used his tattered appearance in an effort to trick Raziel into believing he was the champion of the other side. Kane never had the intention of creating someone with true free will, he simply realized it after spending thousands of years staring into the endless possibilities. That's a huge difference between the intention of creating someone with free will. More importantly Raziel was never the champion of the other side. He was the weapon of their destruction but because Kane turned him, and ultimately threw him into the abyss... Kane accidentally insured the fact that Raziel "the weapon" could never be destroyed. The hilden and the elder god knew this and so they set a plan in motion to turn the weapon of their own destruction against the one who was always meant to wield it. And last but not least the idea that any of them had free will was actually a misinterpretation on all of their parts. Raziel realizes this at the very end and is the very reason why he submits. He all but says this at the end. He knew that this stalemate would continue for eternity and that is when the fulcrum tips.

    I don't think that's just a game mechanic and it's also not teleportation, he's basically leaving behind a part of him that essentially acts as a sort of net that his essence can cling to before it's whisked back to be reformed from the start. It fits within the setting and would be keeping in line with what I think was a series that's usually what I remember to be pretty good with gameplay-story integration(though it's been years since I've replayed them so I may be forgetting something). Now for teleportation in general, in a way Raziel can sort of teleport. Am I the only one that would screw with NPC's/enemies by attacking them and letting them run far enough to where they woukd think they're safe only for me to go into the spectral realm, which if you remember stops time for everyone but you, and materializing right in front of them to finish them off? Now it's not an ability called teleport but when viewing it from a material perspective it may as well be. Haha I hope I'm not the only one who did this as a kid, lol I really love this series and wish they'd finish it or maybe do a Blood Omen remake. Edit: Shit, scratch that about the spectral/material shift, that's actually not a gameplay mechanic and is only possible through a code that lets you shift anywhere so it's not something he can do at will(unless ofcourse that was a mechanic added so people can't do exactly what I did. I loved doing it in the Kain fight but I think I remember him not being caught in that loop, you can see his silhouette moving around but I may be remembering that wrong. As for Kain, he can definitely teleport at will(in both fights with him in SR1 it was basically his edge) though I doubt he can do it from long ranges but he doesn't really have to, in both Blood Omen 1 and in Defiance you could use his power to turn into a swarm of bats that allowed him to travel great distances though if I remember right there was only certain locations you can do this in Defiance and is how he primarily got to different regions.

    People shouldn't do lore videos unless they are well versed in the topic they are discussing. I guess this is part of the show where it's more of the Morons talking than the masters in your video. So many details are wrong in this video. Raziel didn't get stronger as he waited 500 years to awaken, he naturally became resistant to the wheel of fate as the Elder God didn't get to him yet thus becoming a wraith, also the Elder God knew Raziel and Kain's true destiny. Raziel was Kain's First Lieutenant NOT a general. , Kain broke the blade in Soul Reaver 1. The Soul Reaver Blade is not capable of harming and killing the Elder God until Raziel was purified and THEN entered the sword. It was also only Raziel's current soul that entered the blade. Raziel sent the tortured part of his soul (Wraith Blade) into Kain to cleansed Kain from the corruption of the Pillars and back to the state of the Scion of Balance. The Elder God and Moebius the time streamer made it so Raziel would enter the sword prematurely before he could cleanse himself and the Wraith Blade AFTER they made him kill Kain in the original timelines. At the end of Kain and the Elder God's battle Kain simply teleported (A natural ability he has). A nearby portal as you put it didn't exist. Kain is well over 1,500 year's old in the Soul Reaver Game

    People often forget just how much magic Kain learned between Blood Omen and Soul Reaver 1. Yes he can teleport, he just doesn't do it often. The ability to teleport we see Kain use at the end of Defiance is the same teleportation Kain uses during the Soul Reaver 1 boss battles, he also uses it during the end battle and the same fight that takes place in the soul reaver 2 intro, where he puts his hands together and glows before fading out and re-appearing. It's unknown if this is some variation of mist form, or if it's just a short distance ability he sometimes uses instead of batform.

Not to mention a lot of this sort of stuff is encountered by people who works with Entheogens in general, meditation, one method or another to explore reality & themselves. Nature is full of them too, the way plants look, flowers etc, it doesn't mean all of this stuff is like 'evil', 'satanic' l0l or anything. Yeah some people, corporations, etc can use human creative to make something not that good, and push it, i mean propoganda of any sort, over-the-top mindless, uncreative, pro-war violent games, like CoD just to make money,etc. Best stuff comes from Indie developers (*speaking of games), regular people, even if game is not that good, the point is to express art,feelings on a deeper level. There are SoOoOoOo many interesting,weird,bizarre games,books,movies especialy that are underrated so much, with some much in them, like effort, art, symbolism, feelings, atmosphere that can trigger & remind one of something that is inexpressible, deeper on a soul level, game can be simple, look weird, but make a huge impact on someone, imprint it on you, hard to explain. But personally i come across some REALLY weird,surreal etc games,movies,anything, that for some reason just are so powerful, something on a deeper level, like it stays with you, nvm l0l 😂... i could give TONS of names,example of weird,lost games, movies, websites etc i scavenged from the net, indie or not, games or not, just let me know, i have some GOOD stuff, i promise, IT'S SOMETHING 😉. Just let me know, i can pm here on privately, it's up to you... In general stuff either resonates with you on some level, deeper or not, or it doesn't, even a simple word can bring something up from you, strong, emotional, mystical l0l... 😂 it's just interesting...

    The Elder God is basically a Lovecraftanian god who can talk and has a clear motivation. Also, Kain is not only a vampire king, he is the Scion of Balance, destined to "save Nosgoth", him being corrupted when he was born (the reason why he is basically a jerk) was the Elder God trying to prevent destiny; Kain was going to kill him, and free Nosgoth from the Wheel of Fate. By the end of Defiance, Raziel managed to purified Kain, not only did he armed Kain with the only weapon that could hurt the Elder God, but also made him someone more..."balanced"...the Kain at the end of Defiance is not the same asshole as in the rest of the series, I wont say he is a hero, but he finally became the "Savior of Nosgoth". For this reason I think Defiance did conclude the series, Raziel's story went full circle, and Kain was finally who was always destined to be...while it would have been cool to have another game where Kain finally killed the Elder God, it would have been a game without Raziel, and with Kain not acting..."like Kain", so I think Defiance said all that was needed to be said.

    I'm glad to see Legacy of Kain getting a lot of attention lately, perhaps we could see a continuation of the story. On the other hand, Defiance left it at a pretty good spot. Kain knew his enemy and finally had the means of effecting real - true - change. It is unfortunate the Elder God's backstory didn't get fleshed out more, but it didn't really need to be. Even in the original ending of Soul Reaver 1, audio files confirm that the Elder God would always have become a foe for Raziel. Any big Legacy of Kain fans should check out Strictly Fantasy here on YT for frankly the best LoK analysis I've ever seen.

    Sadly based on everything released that we've been privy too it looks like the Legacy of Kain series will never again see the light of day. There was an awesome promo for the "next" game back in like 2012 but it was scrapped soon after the promo was released. @@TrueMastersandMorons Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I was aware of the Dead Sun project, but I admit I had some reservations about it. Introducing another secondary protagonist after Raziel and still not focusing on the conflict between Kain and the Elder God struck me as odd. Maybe it would have been a worthy successor, but clearly, somebody in the development team also had reservations that lead to its untimely demise. The LoK series has focused so much and such high-quality storytelling that I'd rather wait than be stuck with "that one game that screwed up the story" if that makes sense.

    yog sothoth is an elder outer god in the hp lovecraft's cthulhu mythos. he's often depicted as a a shapeless mass of tentacles and eyes much like the elder god or hermaeus mora from elder scrolls is. basically he has the same boundaries or extent as space, time, yet he is supposedly locked outside of the universe we inhabit. the past, the present, and the future, are all one to yog sothoth. meaning he knows and see all of space time all at once, which means there is no secret hidden from Yog-Sothoth. witch is why it would make perfect sense for the elder god in the lok games, to know exactly who raziel is in the past during the events of soul reaver 2. despite never meeting him at that point in time, how he could easily carry on a conversation they had 1000 years in the future, 1000 years in the past like they just talked yesterday, because to the elder god the past, the present, and the future are all the same to him. basically the elder god sees past present future all at the same time, if that makes any sense to you. and that is a really basic overview of him, it's some real complex stuff and it makes you think. and it makes raziel's and kain's feat of getting the jump on the elder gog even more impressive. you could can read up more on yog sothoth in the novel Through the Gates of the Silver Key it's a good read, and as far as i know it's the only book i know of where the main character of the book actually directly talks to yog sothoth himself. all the other lovecraft books just mention or reference him. either that or you could just find a quick overview video on yog sothoth on youtube. but they don't fully describe how yog sothoth see's time as well as the book dose.

    I would question the part of Kain's actions being that of Jealously but more like he acted the part knowing full well of what he seen from the Time Chamber which lead him to that choice defining the moments up to the point Kain needed it to reach :3 It likely angered him that he had to make that choice since it was part of the Time Chamber but he had a plan still even if it was a insane one at best, that being why Kain choose not to see Raziel being toss in :3 Personally i felt the stories was like this :3 The first Soul Reaver game the battle with Kain had a lot of different words being said and likely being for the reason to represent the view of Raziel's anger and thirst for revenge to the one who betrayed him to that state. The Second Soul Reaver game being Raziel opening view of things for the first time for what they truly are with the longing to understand why things became the way they are as well as seeing things in a far open view then he ever did in his time in the future as well as his time seeking revenge on all whom betrayed him :3

    Part of me thought maybe the Elder God and the leader of the Hylden was somehow related in some way like maybe the Leader of the Hylden fond one of Mobius' time machine then Gone so far back in time to destroy the race of Ancient vampires but instead died somehow but at the same time was likely trying to revive back which Kain stop by resurrecting the Pillars Of Nosgoth :3 The other possibility is the elder God controlled the Hylden Leader as it's the only way to explain why their voices match up from Blood Omen 2 game :3 Anyway i feel maybe Kain was the one who help Raised the Pillars because old paintings in the game depicted of those who raised the Pillars of one of them looks exactly like Kain in many features :3 So much is still unknown as i hope they make a new game someday soon as i want to see so many questions answered but sadly i feel it might not happen or at least may not happen with the same voice actors who gave life to the original story...

    They aren't the same space. The Hylden were imprisoned in the Demon Realm, and the Demon Realm was shown to be separate from the Spectral Realm in Blood Omen. If the Hylden were in the spectral realm, we would have run into them sooner as Raziel. The Demon Realm also has a completely different stylization. While the Spectral Realm is teal, twisted, filled with ghosts and spirits; the Demon Realm is red, pulsating, empty, and it's implied that staying in it too long drives beings mad and contorts their bodies into demons. It was only accessible at the end of Defiance because of the events that released the Hylden, but the Spirit Realm has a more symbiotic relationship with the Material Realm.

    I have a theory that post Defiance, we were actually going to get a game or 2 which gave us a deep dive into the Hylden and their history/motivations. Towards the end of Defiance, I got a sense/vibe that the Hylden were actually the good guys (generally speaking). It seemed to me as though the Hylden had discovered the truth about the Elder God (ie: the fact that he was a parasitic sea creature that was draining the world of life) and sought to eradicate him. As a result they were cast out of Nosgoth to a parallel world by the Elder God (with the help of the vampires and humans, who themselves were unaware of the Elder God's true nature). It would also fit in with the narrative that Raziel was the Hylden champion as shown in the mural on the wall towards the end of Defiance. Remember: the only non wraith characters in the entire Legacy Of Kain series to have ever seen the Elder God for what he truly is were Moebius & Kain....after they were in contact with the purified Soul Reaver right at the end of Defiance (Moebius as Raziel killed him with the purified Reaver, and Kain as he held the newly purified Reaver at the end of Defiance) And prior to his realisation of what the Elder God truly was, Moebius blindly obeyed his commands and did his bidding. If you pay close attention, there was a point in Defiance where Kain was evesdropping on Moebius who was talking to the Elder God. But we never actually hear the Elder God's voice. We only see and hear Moebius responding to him. We were getting Kain's perspective in that scene. That was basically how everyone in Nosgoth knew the Elder God (ie: as this spiritual voice that only few were ever chosen to hear). And what I believe we were going to find out is that the Hylden saw and knew more than the other 2 races. As such, they got cast out. But they chose to curse the vampires with eternal life and bloodlust so that, on top of losing the Hylden lifeforce as a source of energy, the Elder God also lost the vampires as another source of energy (due to the fact that their existence was finite and never formed part of the Elder God's wheel of fate). I believe cursing the vampires was a strategic move by the Hylden. Not to spite the vampires, but actually a last ditch effort to weaken the Elder God. Obviously there were villains within the Hylden race (Sarafan Lord comes to mind), but I think overall, the role they were set to have played in the entire Legacy Of Kain story was that of a highly intelligent knowledgeable race. And they were the biggest threat to the Elder God. And ultimately, I think Kain was going to need to learn a few things from the Hylden to ultimately kill the Elder God once and for all, thus negating the need for the pillars altogether in the process (don't forget, the pillars were created to be used as a means to keep the Hylden out of Nosgoth). ALSO, remember the Seer in Blood Omen 2. She had Hylden heritage herself. That also adds to the theory that there were good guys in the Hylden race. Or at least potential characters that were not bound to their own race's triumph over the other 2 races, but who actually were more interested in the preservation of Nosgoth over the petty battles for control and domination.

    There aren't really good guys in LoK, besides, by the time of Defiance the hylden were already twisted by their stayng in the demon dimension, wich it suspect is just the third layer of reality after the material and spectral realms. In Defiance, after his fight with Raziel, we find Kain in what seems to be the demon realms, wich looks like a twisted version of the pit in the Avernus catacombs, wich is the same way the spectral realm works.

    The Elder God was nothing more than an ancient parasite, growing in strength by feasting on the luscious world of Nosgoth's souls., by using the Wheel of Fate. When the Hylden refused his decree, the angelic Ancient Vampires were told to wage war against their new enemies, prompting the rising of the Pillars, establishing their guardians, and banishing the Hylden to another realm. As sweet revenge against the Holy-Art-Thou and devoted servants to a giant squid, the Hylden cursed the Vampires, turning them into the fiends and parasites they are today. With sterility, a blood lust, and immortality, the ancients committed mass suicides in droves, hoping to hear their god again. Humans were seen as the good servants to purge the Vampires from the land. And when Kain refused to end the Vampires at the Pillars, the Elder God, furious, broke the Pillars, allowing the Hylden to return, so that the Wheel may churn again. Kain again, unknowingly, defied the Elder God by destroying the Mass and the Hylden Gate. The Elder God had one more card to play: Raziel. Hoping to turn him against his former master and destroy him by fueling vengeance. All these events occurred so that the Elder God can continue to feed. Because when Kain ruled Nosgoth, the land was desecrated; the Elder God was single-handily destroying Nosgoth by feeding on whatever remained.

    Thing is, in-universe explanations from characters are to always be taken with a grain of salt. These conversations could very well be their own opinions. Let's not forget that up until Defiance Kain couldn't even percieve him. Honestly, the more I think of it the more I lean on the Elder God being the hub of the wheel or the wheel itself. If he was something that merely derived nourishment on the turns of the wheel, why would he care about the vampires? The wheel turns through the Humans and due to Raziel's actions they may grow numerous once again. If he wasn't a hub of some sort he wouldn't have taken such an affront to the cursed immortal vampires.

As such it is not until their full reunion at the end of "Legacy of Kain Defiance" that the blade regains it's full power and right full name of "Soul Reaver" So while it was technically called Soul Reaver when you first find it in Blood Omen 1. From a very early point in "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver" 1 to the end of Defiance the blade would simply be known as "Reaver". :)

    You have to look at Elder God in a different perspective, its natural duty is keeping Reincarnation Chamber of Nosgoth safe, how? Elder God doesnt feed on souls, its feed on Soul's Memories, its energy collected when it was alive he devour this and release soul totally cleaned by memories and turn it to a new so it can reborn when the time's come, Elder God is not a bad entity from its point of view everything he represents in Nosgoth went out of window, land started to decay, souls are in distress and nothing's dying and worse they cant reborn, he does what everybody in this situation could, he try to fix things, When Hylden start to find immortality it was the first time he acted, he tricked vampires to eliminate them so they all can die their soul will be purified and they will reborn but things didnt go as intended, entire Hylden race exiled immortalized, Vampires became cursed and immortal too, dead start to be a concept of rarity and Noshoth's balance duty left to a only Race that still capable to die, Humans, but humans never meant to keep balance unlike Vampires or Hylden they were part of it not to uphold it, Power Corrupted them but to Elder God this mortal concepts not important for him Humans can die and can kill for the cause, When Kain became a Sion of Balance but went immortal his plan ruined because he cant control Sion and balance once again fell into Mortals who dont know what it really is, to a mortal, Elder God is a Horrible Being, it devours you, strip you from your personality and make you gone forever but in Elder God's perspective, it release you from your past misery, negativity, fears and give you a new chance, a new life to go on. Old Vampires knew this, that was the reason they worshipped it but everything twisted by Hyldens and the old ways forgotten. You play a game from a eyes of mortals this is the reason for us Elder God is the main antagonist of the series.

It's claimed the previous one has already occurred which has, but due to Kain enlightened himself to learning of, he immediately was capable of changing the timeline just enough correct the omitted original timeline where Kain becomes a hero by creating 2 paradoxes and finding out both the true nature of the soul reaver. Because you see, the ancient vampires knew about the changing timelines even before Mobius changes them and knew that the hero would fail the first time and then by that timeline passing, does the hero truly win. This means that at least the predictors of the timeline had to see that someone or something was manipulating these events and the Soul Reaver was designed to entrap Raziel to power the reaver to destroy their God.

    The Hylden are kinda immortal themselves, right? So bringing them in wouldn't help that much - you definitely wouldn't want them propagating anyway. The Elder God could well be fucked. Although this new timeline would've been interesting. Effectively, the Elder God has no plans for this situation that has come to transpire, so whatever plans he comes up with have to start from scratch, now that the guaranteed victory he expected is suddenly gone.

    If the ancient's never worshipped elder god they might not have went to war with the hylden. But since they did go to war because the ancient's tried to force their religion upon the hylden they rejected it and started the war sending the hylden into the demon dimension and cursing the ancient's with the blood curse and the existence of vampire's caused the sarafan to form to annihilate the vampire's. The elder god is truly behind all of nosgoth's suffering.

  • @RedFloyd469

    @RedFloyd469

    @@agsiar It could be that Kain's lifeforce is entirely independent from the heart that Raziel tore out. Remember, the heart was the heart of darkness, or Janos' heart, which was still beating when Raziel placed it back into Janos' body. So either: Kain's life is not bound to the heart, or the fact that the heart is still beating causes Kain to live on as well. It's also unclear whether Raziel truly "killed" Kain. When raziel tears out the heart, he then pushes Kain backwards into some sort of portal, telling him to go to oblivion. No doubt Raziel meant to kill Kain, and we haven't seen any vampires magically disappearing into portals upon death, so what exactly is up with that? I think Kain was pushed into the demon realm, considering the dialogue of the creatures he fights when kain wakes up. The only question is: how did that happen exactly? Did Raziel have some sort of power, much like the original vampires, that allowed him to push people into the demon realm?

    If the Vampires were immortal, how did they kill themselves to escape the curse?

  • @slightlytwistedagain

    As of now I think their souls become those near mindless Sluagh spectre much like how Raziel becomes a spectre. The term immortal in this universe appears to mean your soul is denied being processed through the wheel of fate. Being a near mindless spectre wandering the spectral realm is probably the only option for the ancient vampires to get some form of rest from the tormenting thirst. As the Elder God points out, there are fates worse than death so I imagine a lot of the ancient vampires were going insane because of it. On the other hand some vampires like Vorador see immortality and the thirst as a blessing and in retrospect the great war between the ancient vampires and the Hylden only happened because the Hylden rejected the Elder God's Wheel of Fate meaning that the Hylden desired detaching themselves from mortal life so at this point could you call it a curse.

    immortal =/= invulnerable when the curse afficlted the ancient vampires most of them realized that this excluded them from the wheel, and theiur unkown deity the Elder God turned silent for them. They could not bear this(after all a genocidal war was started out of their belief in the Wheel) and took their own lifes in hopes of being returned otthe wheel(thsi arguably did not work)

    In this context, immortality meant the Vampires couldn't age and naturally die, leaving their souls stuck in their bodies. They could still be killed through unnatural means (like stabbing), but combined with them being cursed with sterility, they couldn't rebuild their race.

And then sometime after his human death,he was resurrected as a vampire by Kain. Before ultimately becoming a wraith after he was sentenced to death by Kain.
