I want to see this done on a horse that doesn't know any of this yet, and how you initially teach these cues.

Amazing explanation! It's so satisfying to see horsemanship so smooth and soft without getting the boxing gloves out

Absolutely excellent video! Such a clear and concise explanation and demonstration of leg cues and the reasoning behind the concepts! This is the best and most informative and helpful video on the subject I've seen (out of the bazillions I've watched). Thanks so much! Can't wait to see your next one!

Very easy to understand, Tristan, the way you break it down into small pieces is amazing and so helpful!

You describe exactly how on first ride, I took my wife’s horse into a tree and under branches that swept me off. Pulled rein so he was flexed left, but after he stepped right I was turned and staring at the tree. He did exactly what my seat told him, going sideways under the tree.

Always try to reduce The que to see how little you need to do to get a respons is very rewarding and makes Your horse very responsive over time - I like this approach in this video

I can drive a stick shift, so this will eventually come naturally, too, with a lot of practice. I’m thinking.

How do you train a horse to move off of your leg? I’m trying to train my 6 year old but I’m not sure how to make her understand what I’m asking.

Start with forward. Once you have forward cues with your legs to a place where the horse isn’t bracing you can start to work on lateral. I’ll try and use one leg at a time and just feel for their body to soften if they are struggling. A lot of times we will get to kicking to hard and they will just shut down. So just try and get those feet to yield to yours a touch then rinse and repeat.
