    My Aunt is SUPER religious but she never talks like that to people. She doesn't bust out Bible quotes to strangers nor does she chastise them for random things that don't seem 'Christian' on the surface...because she is a human being who respects other people and doesn't assume what they believe in when they stand in line for a sandwich at Subway. She only openly discusses religion when that's where the conversation is going. I get there are religious and anti-religious nut jobs out there but movies like this make it out that shit like this is super common and that's what I hate about movies like this. They depict normal people who either believe or don't believe like the extremist so that begs the question if THIS is how the movie depicts normal Christians and normal Atheist, what do the extremists look like in this world?

These people grew up during the satanic panic where Christian’s (mostly evangelical) would rail against anything that wasn’t blindly praising Christ (hell, some stuff that even was, like Judas priests ‘painkiller’ being about the rapture and Jesus coming to earth.) so that definitely influenced their views a lot

    Dang, I wish they'd go into some of the crazy stuff, like the Satan Bugs, the woman in red with the dragon, and third of the light of the sun, the stars, and the moon just getting yeeted. Heck, why do the crazy stuff we don't even know yet, why not some of the crazy stuff early on in the Bible? You know, like the books of Judges, Kings and Chronicles. Imagine a movie (or mini series) based on King David. Not just the highlights and Bathsheba, which you don't get the full context for because we just focus on the big thing instead of a the little stuff that lead up to that. Sorry Christian media can be... Lacking, at times.

  • @krimsonkatt

    @krimsonkatt

    2 жыл бұрын

    They probably didn't cover any of the crazy stuff because this movie had an incredibly low budget that they spent 99% of it on hiring Nick Cage. But anyways yeah, Christain media needs to step up their game. There's so much potential for badass stuff in the bible that rarely if ever gets adapted and if it is it's usually highly heretical or really freaking bad. The only good christain media I've seen is The Prince of Egypt (greatest animated movie of all time) and The Chosen, which is an adaptation of the gospels that is incredibly realistic and heavily fleshes out the story in incredibly believible ways while still closely following the source material. Probably the reason why all this cool stuff never gets adapted is because it costs a lot of money and these projects don't get a very good budget most of the time because investors are usually unwilling to invest in christain projects unless they themselves are christain. Plus the creators don't care about making a good product with deep themes and good story and characters, they just want to cash in off their gullible evangelical christain audiance and make bank doing so since they have very little competition.

And me, an 11 year old with blind faith and an (at the time) undiagnosed anxiety disorder was happy. Until the people began disappearing and the world began going to chaos. It only took five minutes for me to be thrown into a full-blown panic attack. One of the youth leaders luckily noticed that I was crying, and she took me out to the lobby, where she let me watch youtube on her iPod and got me swedish berries. After that, it took me a good few years before I was able to go near much of civilization again due to the fear that movie put into me. I'm lucky my family lived in the countryside. It was honestly hard for me to even go to school afterwards. So, TL;DR, Fuck this movie

Another thing that bugs me is how quick people just begin stealing. You'd think after you see dozens of people disappearing you'd be surprised, confused, horrified or even emotional. But no because they aren't Christian they are terrible people who don't care about human life. Guess I better tell my friend that volunteers at a soup kitchen and helps the elderly he's a terrible person because he doesn't read the Bible 12 hours a day.

More than Passion Of The Christ. Because while Passion is just gornography, TCATS actually depicts a true event that happened between a pastor and two rival gangs that ran the streets at the time. I've noticed it's a reoccurring theme in bad Christian movies to paint Atheists as people whose entire existences are dedicated to shitting on the idea of God and being bad/braindead people. With a level of heightened absurdism, I wouldn't mind this. Y'know, poking fun at a different culture is fine if you're able to acknowledge the flaws of your own. The problem is they only mock atheists, so it comes off like the creators are incredibly disrespectful towards atheists because their worldviews don't align with theirs. Future writers/comedians/anyone-who-tries-to-make-jokes, if you act like another group of people is inferior to yours, re-evaluate what you're trying to say. Accept that there are different groups of people, and accept and laugh at the flaws of your own group. It will make what you come up with much less insulting to others, and much more funny.

    You were actually right on the nose about it being a first act stretched out as if I remember correctly, that’s exactly what happened. Stretching out a set-up chapter(s) without actually getting into the interesting part. If I remember correctly, that random pastor actually had a decent sized role in the books it was based on. Almost nothing in this movie is like the book series which surprisingly tackles this entire subject quite well and it’s an interesting doomsday thriller. While reading it, there were times I actually forgot it was a Christian novel it’s honestly pretty solid. This movie does it such an injustice as it turns really layered characters bland and makes everything extremely preachy and boring. They massacred Buck and I shall never forgive them :(

    I went to a Christian school and they made us watch this in bible class one day. I thought it was ironically enjoyable but everyone else there looked bored out of their mind. Also I'm not a Biblical scholar or anything, but to answer that question about bibles having multiple versions. It is true that there are many translations, versions, and interpretations. However, they all mostly share the same central idea (with some minor differences here and there but not enough for there to be a debate over it). So as far as I can tell, every version of Revelations states that one day all Christians will be collectively be transported to heaven and that this event is called the Rapture. But again, I'm not a scholar so I could be wrong.

    Ironically, my church taught me that the rapture was nothing but an erroneous misinterpretation. Look, I'm an 18 year old teen, so I don't know better, but I've read the book of Revelation multiple times, and the closest thing I get to a rapture is a part in which god comes back to earth surrounded by angels and seen by everyone. Therefore, the rapture isn't even a secret one, but it happens just everyone is seeing god in the skies. The book also states that everyone that isn't taken to the skies immediately dies from witnessing god's glory.

    The rapture is a protestant delusion. There's nowhere to be found in the bible, when i learned about this trope i though it was very ridiculous tbh. The interpetations to the Revelations i know are futurism and preterism, futurism states revelations will happen in the future (very easy to guest) and in general is ment to be taken symbolic, preterism states the apocalypsis already happened in 70 A.D (The fall of israel, the 666 is supposed to be coding for Nero etc) which was actually very popular before WW2 when the catholic church was called out for using this interpretation as a way to demonize jews for being the anti-christ

    As someone who knows wayyyy too much abt Left Behind lore (the Christian Bullworth school I went to had all the books and I’d already chewed through Percy Jackson) i honestly don’t know why they decided to do this movie. Like, it’s essentially an adaptation of the first chapter of the first book, which is is weird. The series itself takes way too long (the author in charge of it basically had a page quota that he filled with meticulous conversations explaining every aspect of the plans the characters were making so yeah fun to read) and the choice to drag this movie out is bizarre. Like, we didn’t even get to Ben-Judah or that Rozenchiem guy or even the AntiChrist. It’s sort of a shame. The series really goes off the rails as it goes on, and has a lot if potential for some primo Biblical B-movie horror. Like, at one point, locusts with human faces crawl out of cracks in the ground to bite people and curse them with months of pain while shrieking “ABADDON ABADDON!” The main characters fake their deaths by crashing a plane into the bloody sea, there’sa state religion based on the AntiChrist, believers get ducking beheaded, it’s so insane. If someone had just cared abt it a little bit, we could get something cool, or at least ironically entertaining. But eh, we gotta spread Jesus indoctrination amirite? Ad a side not tho, I am _floored_ they didn’t cast Nic Cage as the AntiChrist. The guy is tailor made for Cage’s insanity. At one point in the series, they build giant ass statues of him that have smoke coming out of their noses and are fed by the pages of the Bible. Oh, and this is _after_ he gets possessed by Satan and the global religion worshiping him starts. Imagine Nic doing that, imagine him just basking in that, it’s amazing! This is Biblical highway robbery! I demand Nic Cage as the AntiChrist! Hollywood call me THE PEOPLE NEED TO SEE IT-

Most of the “unworthy” are yes stereotypes or large misconceptions of what actual people are like. But the way they panic or deny what’s going on is how anyone would react. The “heretical atheist” parents who’s kids are gone, having panic attacks and the like are justifiably confused. Think about how anyone would feel if their kids just vanished, wouldn’t they panic? And wouldn’t anyone think that this one specific interpretation of the rapture happening around them be false or unreal?
