Nydri is a #cosmopolitan #tourist resort in the beautiful #island of Lefkada in western Greece. It is one of the #top #popular travel destinations, and became famous #worldwide when the Greek #magnate #Aristotle #Onassis bought the nearby islet #Skorpios. Since then the village has hosted many #celebrities and important #personalities from all over the world, including Maria #Callas and Jackie #Kennedy, numerous #paparazzis and endless #publicity. Today, a #statue dedicated to Onassis stands at the #port.
Nydri lies 16 kilometers south of Lefkada city and only 36 km from #Aktion international #Airport. It has 1200 inhabitants and an east orientation.
According to the famous #German #archaeologist Wilhelm #Dörpfeld, the area of Nidri was once the famous state of #Ithaca, a legendary home of #Odysseus, as described by #Homer. Today, Dörpfeld's grave lies on the tip of Geni #Peninsula.
Nidri is faced directly to Geni (Yenion) peninsula, which is characterized by hills and #evergreen pine forests. There are high mountains behind the city. From there you will get amazing views to the region and the islands of #Ionian Sea.
The center of Nidri is closed for road traffic due to the new pedestrian street, but you can find paid parkings and some free #places.
A wide variety of #Accomodation options will fascinate you.
Nidri has one of the most #bustling summer life in Lefkada with a dozens of #restaurants and #taverns, coffee bars, souvenir shops, supermarkets, car rental agencies, and other #tourism based services. Just take a walk and start #exploring.
The summer nights here are exciting as well, creating a #magical #ambience, which is one of the many reasons, why Nidri is beloved by so many #visitors who return here year after year.
Nidri’s #beach is situated in the north side of the #village. This is a well organized beach with coffee bars, parasols and sunbeds for rent, taverns, and the largest water #sport centers of Lefkada.
Nidri #Waterfalls are located just 4 kilometersi the west. This is a #nature #pilgrimage experience, while you have already forgotten that you are in a Greek island, as the tranquility and peace of the landscape is unique.
The port and its #marina is the vibrant soul of Nidri. #Private #yachting services, daily #excursions to the western coast and the exotic beaches like Porto #Katsiki, ferry boat to the posh islands of #Meganisi, the legentary Ithaca or even #Kefalonia.
Skorpios remains a private islet, under the ownership of #Ribolovlev family. It is currently being converted to a #VIP destination for worldwide #tycoons.
Finally Lefkada city, its walls, #medieval castle, the #promenade and the alleys will totally fascinate you!
