    I’ve watched every nugget that I could find, from Trevino. If you listen, he always says “You understand?” That is left over jargon he learned from the Marine Corps, all those years ago!! Anyone that’s ever been to Paris Island, knows “You Understand?” DI: I want you to cover down behind that red bin, you understand? DI: Then, you’re going to take out your wallet and put it on that red bin, you understand? Trevino is just awesome, you understand?

    If you're older than 60, you'll probably remember Lee's incredible wedge game when he was young. He was the best, in the 60's and early 70's. It was his wedge game, chipping and putting that allowed him to win the US and British Opens. Then Tom Watson came along with his brilliant short game.

    About 40 or 45 years ago at Colonial in Fort Worth Lee was in a Pro-Am When they reached #4. The a mature hit a straight shot in the middle of the fairway. Lee said that was a fine shot but it had no excitement. He then Hit his ball way out to the left finally it started to bend and faded back to The middle of the fairway. That said Lee was adding excitement.

    2 things I picked up in this video that Mr. Trevino didn’t mention, but it’s definitely there…. In the beginning of the video he states the importance of the right hand being on top of the grip (weak R hand) for short shots around the green. If you look closely just before, during, and just after impact; Mr Trevino’s R hand is rotating anti-clockwise through the hitting area to flatten the blade (toe down) under the ball. This only works if the R hand is super weak. Also, his shoulders are noticeably steep on the takeaway and very shallow during the downswing. He’s just so good and can’t help it. Love this guy!

    @@eggsmann594 , I have read a lot of Lee's philosophy and techniques on Short Game. What he was getting at here was maintaining a steady Swing Speed, rather than Increasing the S S, or worse slowing the Hands which will Straighten the Shaft Angle or even worse, lean the Shaft Backwards, which is commonly called "Flipping the Clubhead."

  • @elliott7968

    @elliott7968

    Wrong. His wrists aren’t cranking or flipping. He clears his just as the club comes into impact which gives it the illusion of cranking or flipping. He shows what flipping is in his next shot in which he shows you what a flip is. No hip movement, or restricting the the lower body causes a flip. Most people don’t have a good short game swing or full swing like the pros because they don’t understand how separate the lower body from top and clear the hips to allow the club to swing on plane, once they do, they stop flipping. To start the swing, feel the weight of the club head on the way back by turning your left shoulder down under your chin. As you keep rotating you’ll get to a point where there is a lot of tension built between your lower body and upper body. At this point to start the downswing, you will feel like you are squatting down and feeling the weight of the club head drop, from the motion of planting your left heel and driving your trail elbow into your hip, once the club head drops to between your shoulder and hip, that’s when you fire your left hip and left shoulder to the left. This applies to chipping, putting, short game, irons, woods, driver.

    @@FolkRoots I strongly encourage you to look at 1:35 and tell me you truly think the club head slows down. Feeling like you abbreviate the follow through, hit more smoothly with slow tempo, etc doesn't equal deceleration. To decelerate means to slow down. That is definitely not happening here. And yes, he does know more than me about golf. But that doesn't change the fact of what I'm seeing with my eyes.

    @@richardneel6953 What might be a more accurate description is this is NOT an Accelerating swing. There's no sense of "firing through the Ball".

  • @robmatijevich8910

    @robmatijevich8910

    3 жыл бұрын

    Everyone is missing the point. Lee speaks of deceleration in terms of the hands. He isn’t saying the club head is decelerating. By swinging the arms to the left of the “wall”, one is quieting the hands and preventing the ugly flip/chop motion through impact. When he and Billy say “you’ve got to!” they don’t mean quitting on the shot, but mean slowing the hands through impact. You do that by “riding that pony” with an arm-connected move to the left. Think of a horse lengthening stride smoothly, not “quickening” with short bursts of choppy speed.
